Since Jimmy Carter stole The General for Kennesaw, that only leaves Sgt. York Park in Pall Mall and the Grainger County Tomato Festival. - OS

I guess open air bar type buildings that only have sliding metal garage doors would count. Like Sloppy Joe's and the like in Key West. - OS

Daley, SCOTUS, and Zombies in Chicago
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Only fair, as I spent the time to look back over your last few posts to see why you might have been put "on vacation". Good one, I must say. - OS -
I have read or been told on forums that Ak and AZ do, not sure about VT. - OS edit: according to handgunlaw.us, VT does NOT issue a permit, so shows only Alaska as allowing VT folks to carry in their state, I guess just by showing DL or whatever as proof of VT residency.

Vermont, Alaska, and now Arizona. Open or concealed, no permit. - OS

Peruse marlinowners.com some and you'll see that Marlin's lack of attention to details in the last few years get a lot of flack. Almost as bad as all the folks dissing recent Ruger 10/22s, but not quite. - OS

Sounds like he's "preparing" to end run it by enacting an unreasonable set hoops to jump through, but we'll see: Mayor Daley Talks Guns, Threatens To Shoot Reporter - American Princess ------------- Mayor Daley Talks Guns, Threatens To Shoot Reporter Emily Zanotti The Supreme Court may overturn the Chicago gun ban, siding with the recent Second Amendment ruling declaring that the language of the amendment provides for an individual right to own a firearm - a right not to be infringed by the federal government at least. Or they might not overturn the Chicago gun ban, siding with the Tenth Amendment and a state's right to pass laws in accordance with the welfare of their citizens. Either way, two things are certain: it will probably not make much of a difference (zombie reference to come in a moment), considering that criminals don't really care about laws anyway and we'll still have Mayor Daley. Mayor Richard Daley today rejected the idea that the Supreme Court is likely to overturn the city's gun ban, but said that he will be ready to act quickly to put in place restrictions on gun ownership if it does. It's defeatist to prepare new gun laws ahead of the court's ruling, which should come before the body recesses at the end of June, Daley said. "You have to have confidence in the Supreme Court, Maybe they'll see the light of day," Daley said at a City Hall news conference. "Maybe one of them will have an incident and they'll change their mind over night, going to and from work." The mayor said if the court overturns the Chicago ban, as expected, he'll quickly present new legislation to the City Council. He also said that the handgun ban has been "very effective," but that's evidently not true, unless you consider that the violence in Chicago could get worse. Laws don't make things just disappear - even behaviors - and Chicago is a shining example of how gun laws don't seem to make guns disappear. This is particularly true when a city has a gun ban and that city is connected to cities without a gun ban, in other states such as Indiana, via public transportation. Think of it as a zombie situation. If the problem is zombies and your solution is to draw a line around yourself in the dirt and call it a "zombie free zone," you're probably not going to remain undead for very long, because the zombies don't really care that you've declared yourself a zombie free zone and will proceed accordingly. Same with criminals. The worst part of this situation is, of course, that you are left helpless because you used an ineffective method of protection. Now, this is not to say that guns are good. They're not. Ensuring people have the proper understanding and take the proper care of their firearms is essential, and exercise responsibility with power is only common sense. Reasonable restrictions are fine. A registry may be necessary. But outlawing guns puts law-abiding people at a significant disadvantage, because guns are dangerous. And if you don't believe me, or Mayor Daley - as one reporter dared - well, then, Mayor Daley would be happy to provide you with a demonstration. During the news conference, Daley reacted with the help of a prop when a reporter suggested the city's handgun ban has been ineffective, given the number of shootings that still occur in Chicago. "It's been very effective," Daley said, picking up a gun from the dozens displayed on a nearby table. "If I put this up your butt, you'll find out how effective it is. Let me put a round up your, you know." Oh, we know. -------------- - OS

My Cobra .38 derringer weighs almost 15 ounces for two shots. Wouldn't be my first choice. Or my second. Or .... - OS

I understand using water/milks jugs, but he also shot a Rubbermaid type 14 gallon tub. He do that with ALL his tests? Meaning, would seem to be pricey choice? - OS

Well, if you know any prosecutors who'd like some brownie points on way to DA or something, just point them at any sizable gun show, where they can arrest both the sellers and the buyers (who will actually be carrying the knives at the time). You can send 'em on over to my place too, I reckon. Thanks for your input. - OS

I have several of the CS machetes, including that one, come to think of it. Long bolo, a double edged, and bowie, too. Quite good functionality for the bux. Also, not too long ago, in similar vein, but for no particularly good reason, other than a hazy notion of SHTF use or some such, picked up a couple of the War Head whoppers really cheap as they were discontinuing them: - OS

Thanks for your input, counselor. Those other cases were switchblades in the home also? (I'll take your word for it). And WAS TCA same as now when all these convictions were made? - OS

I won't print it for you, but I'll post it. Actually, probably size/print better from the link: http://tinyurl.com/28obn8s - OS

I assumed there was basis in fact, since it was mentioned in the articles. Otherwise, I admit I have no idea. Yes, I certainly know you can't believe everything (or much of) what you read in a newspaper. - OS

Who was the first? Only one I know is MidTennChip. Anyway, finally found the pertinent "State vs Souder", and indeed she was convicted of possession of switchblade. Found in her home. Although of Primary reason for charge and reason for the search to begin with was pot. Was appealed and confirmed. There were 4 counts involved, of which the switchblade was one. Sentenced to 11/29, concurrent for all charges. So question remains, was TCA same in 2005 as it is now in this matter? If so, did lawyer even argue the switchblade part as TCA at least now states, or just let it slide since she was gonna get the year regardless? Dunno. I'll say on the switchblade part, though, if TCA was same then, and she wanted to contest it, and if he didn't, it was either that it didn't matter and/or part of the best deal he could get her, or he was quite poor at the job. - OS
