  1. That one? Ruger site says it's dealer exclusive by Ellett Brothers, a whole seller to FFLs. Ellett Brothers Home Have your FFL get in touch with them. - OS
  2. They are an "over 21 only" restaurant? I didn't know there was such a thing? - OS
  3. You can't even get a consensus from gun enthusiasts about NRA membership, so it's ludicrous to expect one about businesses and their postings. - OS
  4. It just gets worse. - BP wrote in environmental impact plan to MMS that a spill wouldn't jeopardize fauna in the Gulf like "seals, sea otters, and walruses" and of course the MMS signed off on it. - BP now claims they are getting through Top Hat more oil per day (10,000 barrels) than they've ever estimated could possibly be spilling in the first place, even higher than the obviously too low government estimates. In the same breath, they say that Top Hat is getting about 1/5 of the total flow, which would mean 40,000 barrels per day, or 1.6 million gallons per day. Which is likely too low, since it's BP's "estimate". - BP doesn't mention they have hirez video from the site until that somehow gets out 50 days after the incident, and finally their frigging lawyers give it up after congressional pressure. According to AC360, this was delayed for a while because they "had to burn it to DVD", and I guess nobody in the whole worldwide high tech corporation knew how to do that right off the bat. - BP spending about $50 million on its new TV ads for image control. Right. And on and on... It just gets worse and worse. The damn thing is spewing just about like the first time we (finally) were able to see it in low rez). Now talking about diverting outlet of Mississippi River to flood the bayous and marshes with more fresh water to save them, etc. Still thinking this may be the economic Trigger. Would be a helluva time for the San Andreas or New Madrid to let go. The Big Guy seems to have a strange sense of humor that way sometimes, so who knows? - OS
  5. Doesn't really ultimately matter what you and I think, though, does it? - OS
  6. now mcurrier - OS
  7. You mean carrying past a sign? I'd say most everyone carries past a sign of some sort or another now and then, whether they mean to or not. - OS
  8. Not "can" be, "shall" be. Well, I imagine it'll at least get back to TNDOS when they pull the background check for your renewal, eh? And btw, this was already the law before the current revisions, it's just that now with all the bitter infighting, wouldn't surprise me to see closer enforcement from now on; maybe even the occasional "push" here and there. - OS
  9. Well, at Chilhowee there aren't any rules -- after all, it's against Knoxville law to have guns there in the first place! - OS
  10. I've mentioned this a couple of times before, seem to get a tin foil reaction if even that, but: Everybody seems satisfied that the "$500 only" penalty in the new 39-17-1359 is not so bad. However, 39-17-1352. Suspension or revocation of license clearly states that: (a)The department shall suspend or revoke a handgun permit upon a showing by its records or other sufficient evidence that the permit holder:... (6) Has violated any other provision of §§ 39-17-1351 — 39-17-1360; Seems automatic to me, assuming the state gets the conviction records passed around between agencies correctly. Anyway, point is, there could be pressure exerted to really enforce the signage statute statewide. So yeah, "concealed is concealed", but then again there are also legal justifications for patting you down, too. Just sayin', but I hope we don't look back and rue the day that we finally got this "carry in bars", since it comes with an automatic loss of permit for carrying past a sign, ANYWHERE, and not "just" a $500 fine. - OS
  11. Actually, the statute says:"The department shall suspend or revoke a handgun permit upon a showing by its records or other sufficient evidence that the permit holder:" So, according to this statute, if you're caught carrying past a sign, you will lose your permit, unless their reporting system doesn't work. Yes. Leaving both our comments in for emphasis. While I agree, and am one of the few who have disagreed with his permit being revoked, I don't see his situation as affecting carrying under 1359. Hell, HE didn't even break a carry law, but anyone charged with carrying past a sign HAS BROKEN A CARRY LAW, and as we've pointed out according the statutes, WILL have permit suspended (at the least) or permanently revoked. I've mentioned this in other threads, but nobody much reacts to it. There COULD be a real push to enforce and convict under the new carry statute, perhaps incited by Rayburn, et al, and we may all well rue the day we got the "right" to carry in alcohol serving restaurants. - OS edit: matter of fact, I started a new thread about this in Handgun Carry to not further derail this one: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/41249-carry-past-sign-lose-your-handgun-carry-permit.html
  12. FYI, accepted acronyms are generally: OC = open carry CC = concealed carry OWB = outside waistband IWB = inside waistband best, - OS
  13. If you mean Michie, that's the first time around, from 2009. They only update the free version maybe once a year. - OS
  14. They will smooth out some from just carrying and handling. 'Course, I carried mine in pocket with no clip, so it may have gotten worn down quicker than if you use the clip, dunno. I finally found a torx that fit the clip, dunno what size it was, really smaller than any that seem to come with normal sets, and now can't find it again. - OS
  15. He started in GA. Is now in PA. - OS
  16. Three nukes at correct altitude could pretty much blanket US with EMP, and would likely be a MUCH more effective killer that way than if those were actually detonated at ground level. Millions would die instantly or within a week, all those dependent on electricity in one way or the other for ongoing health matters, all those in ICU or CC units in hospitals, etc. Good chance that most of the planes in the air would be toast - there's likely three hundred thousand or so folks right there, depending on time of day. Think of all the instant death on the highways if everyone's car in the US simply shut down at speed, no way to estimate that carnage. Anyway, likelihood of an EMP strike is debatable, but since only two or three nukes could blanket the continental US, it's a hell of an effective use of them. And since they could be shot from subs or ships rather than from land based, would also be easier to claim "plausible deniability" from the instigators -- assuming we had enough hardened electronic infrastructure to even pinpoint where they came from after the fact, period. No ground radioactivity afterward, either; just in case anyone wanted to try a ground takeover afterward. Anyway, One Second After is a helluva read. It's set in Black Mountain/Asheville, NC, btw, where the author has taught for a long time (Montreat College). - OS
  17. What you're doing is a pretty far cry from open carry, though. - OS
  18. It says "gulf"? - OS
  19. If you'd like it tucked behind hip, Bullard makes his nice Bodyguard OWB for the XDM: - OS
  20. I don't use a clip - tuck in corner of back left pocket, ride upright against wallet, hinge side down. Took clips off both the Recon1 and the Voyager. Actually currently carrying Gerber Profile folder, no clip on it to begin with. - OS edit: Recon: 6.4 oz, Voyager 4": 3.5 oz on my digital scale
  21. Yes. I've used a Nemesis. I actually love leather, and use it for IWB/OWB, but to me, Kydex just makes sense for pocket. Another good Kydex maker right here in TN is Aholster: Welcome to Aholster Anyway, I found the Stellar very handy since it holds spare mag with no more area taken up than without. Gun pops right up into your hand when your fingers first nudge in between gun butt and mag. Not a "tactical" way to deploy spare, but ... also, you have to score another short mag to do it, the 7 rounder won't work. Any pocket holster will of course work, everyone has their favs. Try a few, starting with cheapest, you can always sell off the ones you didn't like from your Box O' Holsters. Main requirements: - cover trigger - keep gun in same upright position - able to draw gun quickly without the holster coming with it. - OS
  22. Yow, that hurt down to the [wait for it].... Kwik. - OS
  23. Yeah, Recon is a fine knife; carried it for a good while, then switched to lighter weight Voyager. I think I'll wait and pick up a new model Voyager whenever they ship. They have the handle reshaped like the new Recon. - OS
  24. Yeah, Horses is a wonderful coming of age story. Movie was pretty decent, too. Blood Meridian is on several of the "best novels of the 20th Century" type lists, too. It's likely the most brutal book I've ever read. Cormac was actually born in Rhode Island, but came to Knoxville as a tyke and grew up here. Suttree is set in Knoxville. He also lived somewhere in Sevier County for a while, too. - OS
