  1. "The assailant continued an aggressive posture and came within legal shooting distance for the State of Tennessee." Of course, there's no such definition of that in TN statutes. - OS
  2. It just changed, of course: "(1) An individual, corporation, business entity or local, state or federal government entity or agent thereof is authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person who is at a meeting conducted by, or on property owned, operated, or managed or under the control of the individual, corporation, business entity or government entity. (2) The prohibition in subdivision (1) shall apply to any person who is authorized to carry a firearm by authority of § 39-17-1351. ( (1) Notice of the prohibition permitted by subsection (a) shall be accomplished by displaying one (1) or both of the notices described in subdivision (3) in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the property, building, or portion of the property or building where weapon possession is prohibited. (2) The notice required by this section shall be in English, but a duplicate notice may also be posted in any language used by patrons, customers or persons who frequent the place where weapon possession is prohibited. (3) (A) If a sign is used as the method of posting, it shall contain language substantially similar to the following: AS AUTHORIZED BY TCA § 39-17-1359, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON ON POSTED PROPERTY OR IN A POSTED BUILDING IS PROHIBITED AND IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE. ( As used in this section, “language substantially similar to†means the sign contains language plainly stating that: (1) Notice of the prohibition permitted by subsection (a) shall be accomplished by displaying one (1) or both of the notices described in subdivision (3) in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the property, building, or portion of the property or building where weapon possession is prohibited. Either form of notice used shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, property, or portion of the building or property, posted. (i) The property is posted under authority of Tennessee law; (ii) Weapons or firearms are prohibited on the property, in the building, or on the portion of the property or building that is posted; and (iii) Possessing a weapon in an area that has been posted is a criminal offense. © A building, property or a portion of a building or property, shall be considered properly posted in accordance with this section if one (1) or both of the following is displayed in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the property, building, or portion of the property or building where weapon possession is prohibited: (i) The international circle and slash symbolizing the prohibition of the item within the circle; or (ii) The posting sign described in this subdivision" - OS
  3. What a stellar rifle and what a deal to find it for that price, too! I never even knew there was a tube fed model that had the tube inside a stock, truly nifty! - OS
  4. Onliest one I have presently. Circa 1955 H&R 9 shot: - OS
  5. Perhaps the biggest gray area for carry in TN. That and Army Corps of Engineers lands. "Sort" of federal. Some campgrounds have "no guns" "rules". - OS
  6. Yes, sorry, guess I wasn't clear. I meant places to BUY generic signs, everything from Keep Off The Grass to No Smoking, etc. - OS
  7. Yeah, I only see the basic carbine at Gander once in a while. Had a ton of them around xmas. Knox Walmarts that generally seem to have one, East Town (Knoxville Crossing), Clinton Hwy, and sometimes the one in Halls, although they don't have as many guns in general. The one at East Town usually has Mini 14 also, $617. Dick's has had them I think every time I've ever been in there, but about $10-15 more than Wallys. - OS
  8. All permits received before Jan. 1, 2010 ? - OS
  9. If it ever gets a bit "wobbly" side to side with use, you can adjust the screws on each side of the lock. It doesn't take but a small amount of turn to make it not open at all, though! Here's another pic to show relative size: - OS
  10. It's my understanding that the CA pays some sort of recurring fee (I guess a "processing" fee or some such) for the data from the state. Something anyone is allowed to do. Hence some of the mailings that have gone out in the past to HCP holders only. - OS
  11. At least a hundred. (I'm more than half serious, though.) - OS
  12. Funny how they keep increasing what they're siphoning (now saying 15,000 barrels a day) while the overall spill keeps growing (now 40,000 barrels according to govt., which is still likely still low). They not just drilling into the general deposit. They're aiming at existing pipe, target about the size of a pizza. Best of luck to them. They are the first to not "guarantee" success of the August timeline. edit: meant to add, they went through pretty much this same technique on the Ixtoc leak in '79. It was in much shallower water, had much less volume and pressure, and it still took nine months to stop it. Sure, I guess techniques and computerization have improved since then, but well....let's just say that NOTHING so far has made me the least bit optimistic. Matter of fact, if we've come very far in improved technique and equipment, how the frig could this occur in the first place? - OS
  13. Only in the area of handgun carry does the legislature bar something (concealed weapon carry), then allow the same for a special class (HCP holders) and then deny the special class from what the license allows (by entities posting signs). We really ARE a special group. - OS
  14. Yeah, the little international signs are at hardware stores, Home Depot, etc. I'm still thinking there might be a move instigated by Rayburn and similar ilk to get them distributed through TN Restaurant Association or some other biz groups. - OS
  15. That and a buck always gets me a cuppa coffee. - OS
  16. Ruger 10/22 carbine with wood stock is still about $205 or so at WallyWorld. It went up from $197 about 4 months ago. Dick's has them for about $219 and Gander for $229. - OS
  17. When I first started singing his praises here, you could get one in a week or less. Was selling on eBay, too, for a few bucks less. - OS
  18. Nah, they're on top of it -- they just upgraded to IBM ATs with DOS 4. They blew their budget on a couple of inkjets for the oft mentioned "print farm". Actually, it's not "their" database they have to check. - OS
  19. They run the exact same background check again that they did for the original issue, and actually seem to put it on the back burner. Renewals often take longer than the original permit. - OS
  20. I'm afraid he's stating 10-12 weeks these days. - OS
  21. Good idea to just take the time to do it in person, so you get a receipt in your hand. As long as you have the receipt, doesn't matter how long it takes. - OS
  22. We'll see, maybe by August. Think I might give odds THAT won't happen. Or first of the year. Or ... - OS
  23. Guys, I don't have more insights into the economy than anyone else. But it's obvious that this, over time at least, can have trillion dollar implications. Maybe more. So we take BP's assets, which seem to be around 70 Billion. So what? That may not even be a tenth of the real cost to the economy of this. At the least, this will bump the absurdly manipulated government reported unemployment rate by, well, what percent? (depends on how Washington spins it, of course, but in real terms?) How many more trillion dollar hits can our declining dollar and artificially trumped up stock market honestly take before bubbles and balloons start bursting all over the place? I mean, I see no way it's not going to happen period, but this mess may serve as an unprecedented catalyst. And there's always the possibility of another. Enough of the cheerful side for now, - OS
  24. Watching Sanchez on CNN with a copy of BP's OSHA record. Incredible. Similar from: Infographic of the Day: BP's Horrifying Safety Record | Fast Company "Between June 2007 and February 2010, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) checked 55 oil refineries operating in the U.S. Two are owned by BP, and those racked up 760 citations for "egregiously willful" safety violations--defined as committed with plain indifference to or intentional disregard for employee safety and health. The other 53 refineries--put together--only received one such violation." That's gonna go over like a turd in the punch bowl during wrongful death suits, I'd say. - OS
