  1. guy on here was making and selling them about a year and half ago... Search gives no results, though, sort of normal. - OS
  2. I thought you meant Strel was involved with data storage: - OS
  3. No. My point is, its NOT a choice. One can only believe what one believes, if one is honest with oneself. I believe I don't know, and that there's currently no way to know. I'm always open for new information, however. Faith is belief. So I don't have faith. I believe in hope, though. - OS
  4. No. I didn't know I was a white guy until 1959. - OS
  5. An honest intellect can only believe what it believes. It's not a bet that can be hedged. If the buck actually stops somewhere, The Big Guy's intellect also surely comprehends that. - OS
  6. What makes you think you'll know then? That presumes you at least believe your consciousness will carry on. - OS
  7. I voted for myself, and I'm still way behind. I think it's because all my posts have great value and hence are not in the "whore" category. - OS
  8. Ah but Catholics only have to go to confession and do penance, all is forgiven. Wow, the Southern Baptist Convention must have really tightened the rules! - OS
  9. The proposed mosque is about 2 blocks from Ground Zero. So, one more block away from Ground Zero (3 blocks) is okay? Or do you mean 2+3 = 5 blocks away from Ground Zero is okay? There is already a small mosque 2000 feet from Ground Zero. The new one would be about 1400 feet. Is there some exact distance where it ceases to be an issue? - OS
  10. Charter vs whatever a non-charter county is, pretty much beyond me, even after searching/reading a tad. - OS
  11. Because it goes to 11. - OS
  12. "Substantially similar" is still a part of the statute, and must be adhered to. However it is exactly defined now. ( As used in this section, “language substantially similar to” means the sign contains language plainly stating that: (i) The property is posted under authority of Tennessee law; (ii) Weapons or firearms are prohibited on the property, in the building, or on the portion of the property or building that is posted; and (iii) Possessing a weapon in an area that has been posted is a criminal offense. - OS
  13. Mora knives are pretty much universally praised for their quality for the money. I've really never seen anyone seriously diss them in any knife forum. - OS
  14. Seems to me if I was gonna rob a place, all else being equal I'd choose the posted one. Logically, it would seem to bump your odds some. - OS
  15. Ah, okay, gotcha. Yeah, vest in warm weather is what I was on about. - OS
  16. No, at least 5 months out of the year I'd think "where is his gun". - OS
  17. Yeah, everything makes a diff, although velocity alone is far from being an overwhelming factor. But from everything I've ever read, seen, shot (admittedly not out of a sub 2" barrel though), I still think that a 40 gr. plated/washed round nose high velocity .22lr is likely the best against 2 legged predators. Same bullet type in .22mag better, of course. Then again, at near physical touching distance, even a .22 CB short should suffice, if the purpose is to merely dissuade an unarmed adversary. - OS
  18. Yeah, The Road isn't really a "survivalist" theme, since everyone is ultimately doomed. Certainly, that would be the case, if nothing would ever grow again before the last people croaked. I suppose it's possible, with the right placement and frequency of super volcano or asteroid/comet strikes. - OS
  19. Well, most manufacturers suggest something similar. Many warn of discharge if dropped, when their guns have passed even Kali's drop safety tests. HP basically says no gun should even be loaded at all until ready to use. Right. Ruger says to not have one in chamber in my Mini 14 except when ready to fire. Right. Kahr says to unload gun immediately after using. Right. I see no reason why HP isn't as safe as any other gun in that regard. More so than many, if you use the manual safety. The only gun I own, AFAIK, that really isn't drop safe with one in the chamber is my Remington 870 shottie. Surprising how few folks know that most, if not all, pump shotguns CAN fire if dropped, even with the safety on. - OS
  20. CCI Stingers are fast (and light), but fragment majorly and shallowly in game and gel. CCI Mini Mag hollow points penetrate okay, but the round nose do it better. On humanoid, you want expansion, but you NEED penetration. I've found Velocitors to be the best of the hyper velocity stuff, being 40 gr., but being hollow point (I don't think they make them in round nose?) they seem to tend to break up more than normal high velocity round nose also. - OS
  21. ??? Here is Knox County code: Municode.com | Online Library It is called "Code of Ordinances". Here is Knox County ordinance on Noise, for example: http://library6.municode.com:80/default-now/template.htm?view=browse&doc_action=setdoc&doc_keytype=tocid&doc_key=960b7de876ee09e24d8f51b18ea7d0cc&infobase=12815 - OS
  22. I carry concealed every day, but I don't necessarily read everything I see every day everywhere I go. I have a sophisticated legal defense plan if push ever comes to shove: "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't see it, I'll leave now." - OS
  23. I would never go so far as to say "could not be prosecuted". Especially since we have an AG who has opined that you could be found guilty of carrying in a banned park, even though the park was not posted at all. I agree it's highly unlikely, if only for the reason that NO one has so far ever been prosecuted for it as far as we know, under the new statute OR the old one. - OS
  24. Note that those saved PMs add toward your total of 50 (without being a benefactor). And when you reach 50 you won't get a message if someone sends you one, you just don't get it. (but you will get an email to the addy you signed up notifying you that it's full and message bounced). - OS
  25. Yeah, I was over there 'cause my ex brother in law was grad student at Uni at Hull. I hung with all his grad student buds, and what with all the pubs and hashish, I don't remember all that much about it. It was cool shooting snooker at the University Center while drinking a pint, though, can't do that here. We called it Dull Hull. Was actually there about 2 weeks, but it really DID seem like a month. I did get away from that area to visit McDougall Land (my name) over in Oban, Scotland, thumbed up there from Glasgow, thumbed around the area and up to Inverness and whatnot. Had a great time over there in the motherland. Actually wrangled an invite out to the family castle there in Oban, where I had tea with then head of the clan, Madame McDougall of Donnelly and etc. Don't think I bought a pint whole time I was there. Tell ya though, I couldn't understand half of what youse native Yorkies said, It might as well have been Welsh for the most part. People here think everyone in England sounds like cultured Londoners, or Cockney. In Yorkshire, it didn't even sound like English of ANY kind! I'm mostly kidding about it being that bad, though. I did have a great time, even in Hull. - OS
