If the New Madrid does its thing again similar to 1812, what's left of Memphis may well be flotsam passing by New Orleans. - OS
  2. I did a year of Bellsouth DSL support myself in a previous incarnation. OP hasn't reported back, but I'd be first interested to see how many neighbors might be sucking his bandwidth at night. An unsecured wireless, depending on where you live, could make game surfing at a Starbucks seem like lightening. - OS

Knoville? - Watts Bar nuke plant meltdown and the wind is to the northeast. - Certain yield nuclear strike on Oak Ridge where you survive the blast but can't stay for the fallout. - Ebola epidemic started by your illegal Zairean neighbor. - Strel becomes mayor. Oh yeah, and the Rapture -- and the resultant zombies with halos. - OS
  7. Most scholars cite the various gospels as being written between about 40 and 90 CE. The "conservative" ones generally opt for earlier dates than the "liberal" ones. Most credible (IMO) ones do agree that they were all written anonymously, and due to longevity of that era, Matthew was the only one that probably could have been penned by an actual contemporary of Christ. "John" would have been like 120 years old or more, etc. If any of those people existed at all. - OS

If things have disintegrated to Mad Max levels, railroad tracks would be perfect ambush alleys. - OS

Yeah, it might be a good idea to actually have a destination. Ever walked very far on tracks? Rough walking, and actually somewhat slow and dangerous, what with all the rock. The ties are spaced so that no human stride falls on them with each foot. You really have to watch your feet if trying to make time to avoid twisting an ankle. Beside the tracks isn't usually any better. Need good thick soles on your footwear, too, or you'll get stone bruises over time. And for gawd's sake, step out of the sections where the switching rails are .. if one of those should be thrown while your foot is in there, well ... But it's certainly an option. I actually do about a mile of track two or three times a week, as it's part of the shortest route tween me and town. It's easier than some, as can use a derelict section that they don't refresh with rock anymore. - OS
  12. More RAM won't do anything for speed. Even if it would, XP 32 bit can't use it. - OS
  13. Got your router locked down with WPA, or at least WEP? If unsecured, could be freeloaders using it. There are 3 unsecured routers somewhere right here in my apt. building I can log onto. If it's secured, use wired connection to it, and test in morning and evening also. If same immense loss, call Comcast. Additional note: you can surf into your router and see what's connected to it. Most, like LinkSys, are http://192.168.1.1 - OS

Read the first couple chapters of Rawles' Patriots for a financial meltdown scenario that could transform the nation almost as quickly as EMP attack. Scary part is, about 80% of that scenario has already happened. Something else along the way has recently happened, too. Know about The Hindenburg Omen? It's happening: Hindenburg Omen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia And Wiki is already behind: The Hindenberg Omen - Survivalist Forum - OS

  18. Read the article. Cut to the chase, the church kept asking for more. In every case of building on the NEW site, they were asking for public money to help build a bigger church, some of which the city had even granted. Until they wanted more. City is willing to let them build on their original site, or seems even on the new one, if the church springs for it themselves. The mosque is asking for no public money, unless I'm missing something. I see no discrimination regarding the Greek Orthodox folks. - OS
  19. "St. Nicholas Orthodox Church has always had and will continue to have the right to rebuild on its original location. The question was whether public money would be spent to build a much larger church at a separate location on the site ..." Sounds like apples and oranges argument compared to the mosque situation. - OS

  21. To repeat, how can I honestly believe something I don't honestly believe? The Big Guy surely would know if I hedged my bets, eh? "Forgive, O Lord, my little jokes on Thee And I'll forgive Thy great big one on me." - Robert Frost - OS
  22. Save me the research .. catch us up on that? - OS
  23. Ah, gotcha. Then I guess you'd better work on getting either NYC zoning law changed. Which would also require a change to the First Amendment, I'm sure. My prognostication is that the thing ultimately won't get built at the proposed site, but it won't be any interpretation of any law that will stop it. Maybe NYC will wind up building it for the Muslims for free somewhere else; who knows, maybe that's the Imam's hidden agenda in the first place. Which of course would also be a win for Islam. - OS
