  1. What's TCA number on that? What's the penalty for doing it? - OS
  2. Gay and straight men are together in the male showers now. Gay and straight women are together in the female showers now. What possible difference to one's rights does it matter if those individuals are known to be gay? Does it violate some individual right to be sexually desired (or not) by a gay person as opposed to a straight person? I'm really at a loss to understand this specific shower phobia. Unless in the male contingent, it's a fear of seeing a minority number of shower mates with erections, in which case seems the straight guys could just take as a compliment. - OS
  3. You realize that about half of the states allow some form of open carry without permit, yes? And that the firearm crime/accident stats regarding those states are certainly no worse, and generally better, than states that don't allow that? What other rights granted in the Constitution do you think should be allowed only by special permit? - OS
  4. Not if they handle it like AK and AZ, which have in state carry without permit, but also issue permits if you want to go through the process. Hopefully, that would be the outcome. But I doubt if we'll see "permitless carry" in TN anyway. Ever. For all the "great gun state" talk seen here, this is mostly in comparison to more restrictive states like NJ, ILL, etc... TN actually has MANY restrictions in regard to carry. One really needs a very small lawyer to carry around more than an extra mag. - OS
  5. It serves purpose for reciprocity in other states. VT does not issue a carry permit, and consequently, Vermonters can only carry in a couple of other states that recognize their right simply because they are VT residents. However, both AK and AZ, which also do not require a permit to carry in state, either openly or concealed, also both issue a permit so that other states have option of honoring it. TN has one of the most widely honored permits in the US, and it would be a great indifference for many travelers were this to change. - OS
  6. Very misleading news story title, since the court did NOT rule on ban in public parking lots at all. This is all about a USPS employee, on private employee lot, who appealed under 2nd Amendment basis. Indeed, as story says, the "The Court did not indicate whether the Second Amendment would protect gun owners from prosecution if they possess a gun in the public areas of USPS property." - OS
  7. "...fine of not more than $50 or imprisonment of not more than 30 days, or both." Real wrist slapper compared to the Title 18 penalty. - OS
  8. He DID sit in with City Council and was quite forceful in speaking AGAINST lifting the old ban. Btw, they actually DID vote on a proposal; I believe it was worded to simply let the old statute stand, but they did take a vote and there were two dissenters, maybe three. - OS
  9. You would think that federal facilities would follow federal law. I mean, they are so federal and all... - OS
  10. Class A 'meanor, unless you stick up the place while you're at it. - OS
  11. Well, I'm not advocating anything -- just quoting the law. According to it, it "shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal facility". The PO I use all the time is not posted at all, so let's just say that I don't worry about what I may or may not have on my person when I frequent any part of it. Again, what's this business about "loosing" all your guns if caught carrying in fed facility? - OS
  12. Yeah, loss of habitat doesn't mean there should actually be birds in all suitable habitats that remain. When species over-populate in general, they often don't simply self limit to previous sustainable levels, but tend to really crash far beyond those levels. It's a fairly complicated issue, and I seriously doubt that one simple factor like "too many wild hogs" is the cause. Since there are always more people, but same finite land area for them to populate, that's likely the first aspect to investigate. Many of the places I used to hunt in my youth have houses on them now, so that's sort of irrefutable right there -- loss of habitat indeed. - OS
  13. My first thought also. The "visitor" could simply have come in shooting. - OS
  14. Then according the law as I read it, you couldn't be convicted of it. - OS
  15. Federal statute says they DO need the postings. Indeed it states that you cannot be convicted if the postings are NOT there. "(h) Notice of the provisions of subsections (a) and ( shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal facility, and notice of subsection (e) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal court facility, and no person shall be convicted of an offense under subsection (a) or (e) with respect to a Federal facility if such notice is not so posted at such facility, unless such person had actual notice of subsection(a) or (e), as the case may be." (a is carry in fed facility, b is use of firearm to commit crime in building, e is carry in fed court) - OS
  16. Cite? I see nothing but fine/1 yr mentioned in the federal statute. - OS
  17. You'd better narrow down the purposes. HUGE diff tween recoil/noise between those three guns/calibers (.22LR/.223/shot shell) , and how she might react to any of the three. - OS
  18. You mean, for carrying a switchblade? Wow, I would think that most LEOs would pop anybody for that. As far as possessing one in your home, have run that by couple of lawyer friends, and they both scoff at the notion of being charged in that regard, no matter who you are. - OS
  19. HCP is only a defense to illegal possession of a weapon, if you wish to argue in that vein. - OS
  20. Yeah, but then I might not find time to actually go shoot anywhere. Seems that may have happened to you! - OS
  21. I can prolly grab ya, Ron ... though I'll need some refresh on directions if I don't go with Mike ... we'll see how this plays out... - OS
  22. I don't know squat about the gun itself, but looks like it's just missing the outer lever part. I bet it works if you stick something in it and pivot? - OS
  23. Kind of you to highlight the clue, though I wonder if it will be enough. - OS
  24. Well, unlike turkey, quail don't care much about woods. I'm only quoting what Quail Forever, which seems to be a pretty respected org fostered by the pretty respected Pheasants Forever, says. I haven't hunted in years, but yeah , growing up seemed like you'd flush a covey all the time just walking around scrub land, even around the suburbs, but no more. - OS

    Carbine Question

Do a search... There are any number of us on TGO that have HP carbines and really like them. Most of us have the 9mm version, either original ugly stock or newer combat ugly stock. The only real downside of them is the small capacity flimsy magazines, and there are no real alternatives that work. Matter of fact, I daresay that 95% of all HP problems, pistol and carbine, are mag related. The .45 version has been anticipated for at least 5 years, can't believe it finally made it. - OS
