  1. Well, apparently the very first Colt AR did had a wood "look", even though it was fiberglass:
  2. Retro is hearkening back to something that actually existed, and that didn't. More like wood punk in the sense of steam punk - OS
  3.   Maybe somebody is bringing them in to stock an area and it fell off the truck, the main reason supposedly for the bizarre laws on hunting them, dunno.   - OS
  4.   Confusing question. You can't run a classified anyway.   Assuming you become a Benefactor and do, you can certainly respond to people any way you choose. You can refuse to sell to anyone you like for any reason.   If that's the question you're asking.   - OS
  5.   As I get it, at least these:   - adds people who can legally possess them besides yourself - some advantages regarding inheritance since no NFA transfer necessary to relatives on the trust - possibly exempt from some future firearm restriction laws - bypassing CLEO sig (which isn't a big deal in TN, but it is in some places)   - OS
  6.   Sheesh, you started the whole thread because ya said Key West didn't work.     - OS
  7. Try  "The Florida Keys" or "Florida Keys" ? It's been generalized to that.   Factoid: you  haven't been able to take any conch in the Conch Republic for maybe 30 years now
  8.   The main traditional Marlin lever guns (336, 1894, 1895, etc) of course have exposed hammers and always have,  same as Winchester.   And all have the half-cock position whether they have the cross bolt safety or not -- it should be noted though, that they are perfectly capable of being placed in a "false half cock" position, and they can fire from that position with impact applied to the hammer same as if they were not cocked at all but just resting against the firing pin.   Can do with the Winchesters also AFAIK.   And btw, Marlin crossbolt safety got phased in durin 1983, so you have to go  back a good ways to get one without it.   - OS
  9.   It smelled quite well before it died. ;)   - OS
  10. All muffs I've ever tried get in the way of cheek weld with some of my rifles, including some fairly "flat" electronic ones.   I've never found anything to beat just good squishy plugs, like the Howard Leight Max.  The trick is in rolling/squishing them down correctly to insert and then waiting for them to expand in position correctly. Do it correctly and then you're sealed, really sealed. I finally just bought a box of the 100 count corded ones, can use a set for maybe five trips before tossing.   Downside is that they seal so well you can't hardly hear jack in regard to conversation or other normal level noises. Also, takes a minute or two to get them properly reinserted if you pop one out to hear.   All that said, "concussion" is still an issue, and I don't like it much, really don't enjoy shooting in an indoor range much at all. My local outdoor range has a partially underground shed type construction, and it does increase that claustrophobic concussive pressure sensation. Sometimes if I'm there alone I just shoot from the ground out in front of it and it's almost like having cans on all my shooters, and no pressure wave feeling at all by comparison.   - OS
  11.   Not that simple. There are plenty of JM marked barrels on guns released after the Remington buy out in '07. Indeed, some seem to have been stamped JM right up until closure of the North Haven plant in 2011. No one seems sure if these were "pre stamped" upon manufacture of the barrel or whether they just continued that proof mark with some lines until plant was closed, as yes there are also REM or RP markings on post '07 barrels on guns released from North Haven plant too. Also, there are lots of REM or RP stamped North Haven engraved barrels after the plant shutdown that came out of Ilion and Mayfield,  apparently from left over barrels.   -  OS
  12.   Remember that in TN, besides whatever the FFL charges, there is a $10 fee for TICS (Tennessee Instant Check System, run by TBI).   - OS
  13. Obviously just somebody's plan so far. Drop over there and see what seems to be afoot.   https://www.facebook.com/lbvsportsmans/   - OS
  14.   Well, dunno, only thing I can figure is that you have some screwed up out of spec buffer tube, then.   Every "pistol" tube I know of has essentially the same internal usable area for a carbine spring that a carbine length buffer tube does, except for a couple of the super shorty specialty ones that use their own proprietary springs.   One of my pistols uses KAK extended length buffer and one uses just a fairly generic one off eBay, but both have the same internal length for the spring function, both lock back fine.   Matter of fact, from a couple of years of haunting the ARFCOM AR pistol forum, have never even seen your type problem mentioned there at all. You might want to post in the Gunsmithing forum here or maybe over on the ARFCOM forum  too to see what else someone might figure out, but sure sounds like something a bit out of whack with that particular buffer tube to me.   - OS
  15.   What good is a gun selling group if potential buyers and sellers don't even know it's there?   - OS

  17.   Flat part of a round tube? Magpul makes a tube? Still lost.   This ain't yer first AR is it? Meaning, is it possible you have a rifle length spring and/or buffer in the carbine length tube or something?   - OS

    ....

A mystery hidden within an enigma.   - OS
  19.   Explain further. What is a "lock tab"?   Perhaps you are trying to say that the buffer tube doesn't engage the buffer retainer pin?    Or do you mean the buffer tube is somehow preventing the bolt from locking back using bolt hold open manually or with empty mag?   - OS
  20.   Yeah, just means that supposedly you can't keep your guns as per state law in VA if you get that type of order of protection. 'Course, as poor as state enforcement is, doesn't mean they're gonna come check to see if you still have them, any more than the feds do.   - OS
  21.   You call that "somewhat right"? This the new logic, like the new math? - OS
  22.   Put that up there with "non-conforming signage" regarding 1351 as undecided by case law.   Problem with "self defense" is that it's largely synonymous with "going armed" the way TN law is written. And neither 2A nor "self defense" overrides fact you can't carry a loaded firearm or a club here without special privilege, for example.   Who knows. Highly unlikely to be brought to bear for a sword cane without some special stink arising of course.   - OS
  23.   I know. Last of thread I referenced was already current regarding the latest news.   - OS
  24.   Dropping recognition wasn't going to take effect until Feb. 1 in the first place, Jan was free and clear all along.   Announcement supposedly today regarding negating the edict before it even takes affect.   - OS
  25. Maybe.   It can't be prohibited simply on the basis of being a "knife" per se, but there is still the catch all prohibition on "any other implement for infliction of serious bodily injury or death that has no common lawful purpose".   Which could apply to any sword period, if folks want to start wearing them around enough to get a court case somewhere.   - OS
