The purely weapons laws at: http://michie.com/tennessee 39:17:1301-1363 They are all up to date now from last TN legislative session. Long gun/HCP is covered in the basic statute of: 39-17-1307. Unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon I don't know hunting laws, will leave this for someone else. You might post in the hunting forum. - OS

I assumed that's how it works. If you don't let them search if they want, they fire you. Simple as that. I used to get searched at FedEx Ground coming and leaving, although most of the time they didn't really, but were supposed to. I know there was a clause in our "contract" that mentioned searching and security, etc. I assume vehicle was mentioned too, but don't honestly remember. I know that some of the kids who were part time loaders got their cars searched a time or two, lots of theft off the line there. Any teachers here have their contracts handy? Is there a search person/search vehicle clause? - OS

That's certainly one way to look at WalMart. The antithesis is of course that Sam Walton is the perfect example of the Great American Entrepreneurial Principle. Sell what the people want at a lower price than the competition but still make a profit. Wally found ways to innovate acquisition and distribution that no other entity had ever achieved, including the US military. Guessing maybe 20% of what Walmart sells is American made (not counting food). Point is that at least 50% of the rest of it is NOT made in America anymore anywhere, so there's no homegrown option anyway. It's a complicated issue, but you can't necessarily fault an American success story, especially in a Marxist business climate where both individual and corporate success is punished and failure is rewarded. - OS

Is it legal to carry a loaded long gun most everywhere, regardless of hunting season and/or your license, for "self protection in the woods"? Certainly it is NEVER legal in Smokies, for example, at least on TN side, don't know NC law very well. - OS

Disagree that it conceals as well. I even sanded down the extension to the bare blunt minimum, still stuck out back of my shirt more at 4-5 o'clock. Grip length is critical factor and I'm pretty darn serious about concealment, inch makes a big diff. Plus, I can hit with it about the same as with my XD service model anyway, so plenty good enough. YMMV, of course. - OS

In this day and time, I think many folks would rather face a misdemeanor than lose their jobs! The statute is all we have to go on. It says nothing about HCP, loaded or unloaded. IANAL, but not sure it matters much, as have seen lawyers disagree on this matter. Some people here have claimed that since there are two identical paragraphs in the statute: - (the first one says "with intent to go armed") and is a felony, and gives no permission to possess at all - and the second one (which I quoted), does not say "intent to go armed", and is a misdemeanor, and doesn't mention HCP, would suggest that the gun referred to must be unloaded. Or, since it does NOT mention status of the weapon, perhaps loaded/unloaded is not an issue. Like much of TN weapons law, it's quite gray. FallGuy will probably chime in later, he's among our best Non Lawyers -- I know he's seen all sides of this debated over and over, see what his synopsis is. Read the entire statute. What do YOU think? - OS

It is legal under TN statute for a non-student adult to have firearm in car. Whether the firearm can be loaded or not is of some debate, as the section is under the "not going armed" paragraph. However, the school system itself is pretty much guaranteed to have a strict no weapons charge, and has the legal ability to search vehicles on school property, and can terminate employment for it. So: - It's legal to posses a handgun in car on school property for a non-student adult. HCP not required. Loaded or not is unclear. - It's legal for the school to fire you for doing it. -------------- Full school weapons statute at: Michie's Legal Resources Pertinent passage: "© (1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any firearm, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. It is not an offense under this subsection © for a nonstudent adult to possess a firearm, if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property." - OS

Certainly, "zombies" are often equated by EOTWAWKI inclined preppers to those teeming and clueless masses who have not prepared in any way and who will be mindlessly stumbling across the land in search of sustenance. - OS

House would be empty. Looks like he will only be "censured" or "reprimanded". Big whup. Rangel has apparently committed federal crimes, but I hear no mention of his being indicted for that. - OS -
No, all fixed blades are not "considered" a dagger. Any knife except "switchblade" with blade under 4" is legal to carry, fixed or folding, double edged or single. (Except on school property, where really by TN statute ANY knife is illegal and in federal buildings where 2.5" and above are considered deadly weapons). The only gray area in TCA is that "blade" is not defined -- some knives that have sharpened area of 4" or less but have more than 4" of metal between tip and handle. I'd be reluctant to carry one like that. Btw, I carry a (I guess) dagger most every day, AFAIK generally defined as having sharp point for stabbing (double edged seems to be optional). Not sure diff between dagger, dirk, snee, etc, though. This puppy IS double edged. - OS

There is plenty in TCA, especially the weapons section, that seems clear, but is debated, with even lawyers on this site not agreeing. Seems lawyers in middle TN have a special problem with switchblades, and like to define terms in ways that Webster or the OED never heard of, for example. Then there's the AG not agreeing with clearly written statutes like the one dealing with municipal parks. Since "place of business", or "premises" are not mentioned in the definitions section, just wondered. Perhaps they are defined somewhere in other sections of TCA. - OS -
That seems to be correct, 6 episodes, counting pilot, initially. Has been renewed for second "season", with 13 more episodes. The Walking Dead (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - OS

I've come to my own conclusion about whether we are affecting climate change in any significant way: it doesn't matter -- the population will be drastically thinned due to more timely influences long before world climate can possibly accomplish the same. - OS
