  1. No federal law against it, contrary to popular belief, no DOT rules or anything. I know of no states that have law against it, either, but it's possible. For sure, same laws apply to commercial drivers from state to state as to anyone else. Most companies, even if your vehicle is owner-operated and leased to them, forbid weapons, of course. And you can be searched at any federal or federally contracted installation or military unit, which is a factor for some truckers. - OS
  2. Thanks. Actually, it's an Undercover, not a "Bodyguard", duh. - OS
  3. They still have these somewhat less tactical tactical models in stock: LA Police Gear Tactical Molle Christmas Stocking - OS
  4. This would go along very nicely with a Hero Gear Battlemug, but they're sold out for now: LA Police Gear Molle Elite Tactical Christmas Stocking SOLD OUT - OS
  5. Works fine, but there's no advantage to it over the many other fine SD loads. It's created and optimized specifically for lever action rifles. - OS
  6. I get asked that from time to time. I firmly believe that there is not time to turn the massive ship before it strikes the rocks, simple as that. I'll spare you by not iterating the rest of the premise at this time. - OS
  7. Not a lot of new info so far, but more confirmation of what was always assumed. Of course, the US lies down with dogs; we've been directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions throughout the years. We've armed both Iran and Iraq in the past, AND Afghanistan, and it's ironic that to some extent, our GIs have been shot at with weapons we bought. Iran's present system of (sort of) theocratic rule is a direct antithesis to the US support of the cruel and corrupt Shah Pahlavi rule. Etc, etc. Nothing more ironic than real life. So far the surprises have been more in the nature of gossip and backbiting, although other Muslim countries' desire to see Iran destabilized doesn't indicate solidarity with the US as much as just the continued rift between Arab and Persian. Remember, we (and Israel) are relative newcomers in the Middle East as far as being political powers, the Arabs and Persians have been in contention of a thousand years or more. Anyway, the data is out there now, so might as well see the positive side of it; since I'm a firm believer that we should have NO fighting force anywhere in the Middle East from day one, it's all the more reason to get our guys the hell outta there if indeed there is any actual additional risk posed by the information release. I probably wouldn't feel so strongly about it if the US didn't have a history of covering up involvement in Very Bad Things and the political corruption that made them possible under the guise of "national security". - OS
  8. Guncraft or Guncraft Sports was one, I believe. - OS
  9. Exactly. And so I'll iterate one of my famous quotes, from one who knows what control is all about: "The Soviet Union had a single, entrenched, systemically corrupt political party, which held a monopoly on power. The U.S. has two entrenched, systemically corrupt political parties, whose positions are often indistinguishable, and which together hold a monopoly on power. In either case, there is, or was, a single governing elite, but in the United States it organized itself into opposing teams to make its stranglehold on power seem more sportsmanlike." Dmitry Orlov Post-Soviet Lessons for a Post-American Century It's too late for either party to be substantially changed by its own elected members. - OS
  10. Not even scheduled to start shooting the next 13 till Feb. Again, the link: The Walking Dead (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - OS
  11. No carry in places that serve booze for on site consumption. - OS
  12. The ones marked Charco and Charter 2000 are actually the ones that some folks who claim to know say are of compromised build quality. I have one of the original Bodyguards Undercovers from the 60's. Got it used in a swap years ago, dunno how many rounds through it previously. I shot maybe 100, including bunch of +p, all fine. It lives under my Mom's couch cushion now. She can barely hold onto it when it goes off, but it was the only gun in my entire collection she could work. (she's small and 85). Double action is much lighter than a Jframe or my Ruger SP101 or even my .22 H&R revo. - OS
  13. I figure that just a 1930's style financial crash likely means the loss of millions of lives over a few years, this time around. How many, who knows. Certainly, a total meltdown where public services were non-existent would mean the loss of at least half the population over a few years' time. Besides violence and starvation, sanitation breakdown alone would unleash the Biblical baddies, typhoid, cholera, typhus, etc. among densely packed populations, though they wouldn't be dense for long. - OS
  14. Best I remember it was a rehash of a memory that the father had earlier in the book, trout lying deep in a stream. At any rate, seemed to me to just be a last look at the nature that once existed. Note that in the movie, as the credits roll, there is audio underneath of the daily life that once existed. Yeah, I'm not gonna do the religion/science thing either (although it's always fun!), but I can't imagine any scenario where the sun has not shone on one part of the planet for those maybe 7-10 years to be a local condition. At any rate, it's a testament to both the book and the movie that the interpretation can be up for grabs and yet still speak so powerfully to most who read/saw it. - OS
  15. Logically, I can't buy that. Nothing to grow, no animals to breed. Not enough humanity even left to breed. The family that takes him in doesn't seem to have much of a handle on things, just one of the last ones around. Though a book has more time to fill in nuances, in this case it really didn't. I saw it as a rumination on what makes us human and the nature of love, and a comment on the temporal nature of all things. One of the 1000 lb. gorillas of earth history is that there have been 3 or 4 mass extinctions in the past, so of course there will be another, and certainly long before our sun nukes us. Indeed, and as always, any time now. - OS
  16. You've got it. TN weapons law is so logical, eh? One more quirk to the municipal parks: if a county/town enacted no park carry before 4/8/1986, they can still ban them and NOT have to post them either. You just have to "know that". Knoxville is that way,. - OS
  17. I guess you mean thumb missing? In the book, the thief had thumb missing, had to do with having been kicked out of a commune for stealing, taking the thumb and banishment was the penalty. But the book didn't mention Guy Pearce at the end as having one missing (I don't think). I just watched the movie but may have missed it, did the thief in the movie have thumb missing? Anyway, The Father in the movie didn't explain the missing thumbs at all, unless I totally missed it. - OS
  18. Totally agree. Best thing Mel Gibson ever had a hand in. I've seen it at least 5 times, wish I had caught it on the big screen. - OS
  19. For those of us who didn't see it on the big screen or rent it, The Road starts its ShowTime run tonight at 10:00. - OS
  20. Somebody was making up rules on the go. There is no provision in federal law or post office regulations for that. I sent a Plinkster to Eagle Pass once myself. I just didn't mention it was a firearm, as per federal law. Sent UPS, though. - OS
  21. Yeah, there are lots of gotchas trying to legally ship. - Contrary to what BATF says onsite, the only time you are to inform carrier that firearm is present is when it is NOT going to a licensee. But if you tell a UPS store, they'll likely say take it to a hub, and the hub probably won't ship it because it's not going to an FFL, even though it's legal. Same with FedEx/FedEx Office. - USPS, not sure what they'll do when you tell them. Note that there is nothing placed on carton to indicate a firearm, however, and if you've already printed a pre-paid label, like with UPS account or USPS online or eBay, nothing can be added to the paperwork that issued the label, so .... I have no idea how you could actually ship firearms to yourself out of state, which is also legal, by following the various carriers' rules and federal law. - OS
  22. Brant even PM'd me this. I have never mentioned anything about your store, your wages or anything remotely related in the past. As far as my comment you are reacting to, WOW, you actually can NOT see it was a JOKE? About "moving targets"? : They pay them minimum wage, huge turnover in personnel.... crap, that means they probably charge you range time per pound. It is like fishing at crosseyed cricket Like, are you REALLY that humor impaired, or just not know how to read the flow on a forum? Sorry, but you really just showed your ignorant ass on this one. - OS
  23. Ah thanks, had imagined all sorts of odd possibilities. - OS
  24. Gotta admit, that's an intriguing statement. How does A relate to B? - OS
