Well, they oughtta be cool as all gitout. Nifty that they're gonna be TN wood. Guy at my Dad's church in 'Nooga went around and found grape vine sculpted spiral wood and made canes from them; my Dad had one toward end of his life. I had no use for it, wasn't a particularly fond thing to remember about him so I eBayed it. - OS

Actually, there was a previous thread somewhere wherein Jamie showed a stick he'd made. I didn't cheat and use any of my occult powers. I actually have one of their City Sticks, a discreet "pistol grip" one which they don't seem to make any more. Long story why I grabbed it a number of years ago (as knock on wood, I'm far from needing a cane) but anyway it would flat do a number on ya, whether you used the stainless steel handle or just the fiberglass rod part either one. - OS

Yow, then I better stay away. I'd spend 200, being sort of an addictive personality. - OS

Yeah, well, I dunno...was reading Beretta forums somewhere and guy shows a letter from BATF re the NEOS rifle conversion kits, and seems that as long as you never have the stock and short barrel on at same time, it's okay to go back and forth, since none of the modifications are permanent? Like you have pistol. Add 16" barrel, then add stock. Remove stock, then remove long barrel. Just don't put short barrel back on before removing stock. No? - OS

Well, that's what you should do with Kydex. Just dunno if the Cold Steel stuff is kydex. I have several that use the "Conceal-X" sheaths, haven't ever needed to try and soften them, but they don't seem to be Kydex. The Becker sheath is heavy nylon with whatever kind of plastic inserts for the (two) knives, plus an outside pocket for emergency tin or whatever. Really like it all cept for the loose rattle on the main knife. - OS

Meant to mention, have same complaint from my Becker BK7, although it's a kydex/plastic internal insert -- it even rattles. Have read that you can heat whole thing in hot water and sort of smush it down to conform to knife. Since I haven't actually used the thing yet, I haven't tried that. I might be more reluctant to try it with the SRK's sheath, though...that stuff isn't actually Kydex I don't think? - OS

Wow, that's kinda hard to believe it's still virulent after all that. Could he be having a psychological reaction? - OS

Oh, it's top notch. Good Japanese steel is as good as any in the world, absolutely, and Cold Steel's top end knives are made to same exacting standards as always. And their lower end knives, many of which I have, are mostly Taiwan rather than China, and are fine bargains for the price, unless one is uninformed enough to buy directly from CS. - OS
-
One of the long time best choices in fighting/survival categories. Japanese or Taiwan steel now? Everyone says it's just as good a knife as it was when still USA made -- shame it's lost that extra perk, but I'm still a Cold Steel fanboy for much of their stuff. I was handling a Knox Co. cop's SRK at Norris range last summer, awesome. - OS

Is permit required for black powder pistol?
Oh Shoot replied to graywolf's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Yeah, but who cares what the DA thinks if the cops won't arrest you to begin with. - OS -
edit: But you have to be Bradley County resident.

Yes, but basically only applies to unlawful possession of loaded gun. This is actually one law that doesn't actually penalize a lawful gun carrier. ---------------------------------------- Text of the law Title 18 U.S.C §922(q) The Gun Free School Zones Act of 1995 States: (A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone. ( Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm— (i) on private property not part of school grounds; (ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license; (iii) that is— (I) not loaded; and (II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle; (iv) by an individual for use in a program approved by a school in the school zone; (v) by an individual in accordance with a contract entered into between a school in the school zone and the individual or an employer of the individual; (vi) by a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity; or (vii) that is unloaded and is possessed by an individual while traversing school premises for the purpose of gaining access to public or private lands open to hunting, if the entry on school premises is authorized by school authorities.(3) (A) Except as provided in subparagraph (, it shall be unlawful for any person, knowingly or with reckless disregard for the safety of another, to discharge or attempt to discharge a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the person knows is a school zone. ( Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the discharge of a firearm— (i) on private property not part of school grounds; (ii) as part of a program approved by a school in the school zone, by an individual who is participating in the program; (iii) by an individual in accordance with a contract entered into between a school in a school zone and the individual or an employer of the individual; or (iv) by a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity. (4) Nothing in this subsection shall be construed as preempting or preventing a State or local government from enacting a statute establishing gun free school zones as provided in this subsection. (2) It shall be unlawful for any person, knowingly or with reckless disregard for the safety of another, to discharge or attempt to discharge a firearm. Definitions Title 18 U.S.C. §921(25) The term “school zone” means— (A) in, or on the grounds of, a public, parochial or private school; or ( within a distance of 1,000 feet from the grounds of a public, parochial or private school. (26) The term “school” means a school which provides elementary or secondary education, as determined under State law. ------------------------------- Synopis from Wiki: Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - OS

Is permit required for black powder pistol?
Oh Shoot replied to graywolf's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Why would anyone carry an unloaded gun? If there's a free pass in Sumner County to carry loaded black powder weapons without a HCP, then that can only mean they don't consider them firearms. In which case you could open carry a loaded pistol OR rifle, get drunk while carrying it, carry past any posted establishment, carry right into schools, posted parks, etc, all without legal penalty. I like it! I may have to move over there. That sounds like a real man's county and I'm tired of being hassled here. - OS -

Is permit required for black powder pistol?
Oh Shoot replied to graywolf's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Yes, felons can own black powder weapons, by federal law. TCA however, makes no mention of an exemption for carrying them, and certainly they fit the description of rifles and handguns in TCA. I'm all for cops NOT arresting folks for firearms offenses every chance they get, but considering the lunatic Kel-Tec .226 pistol prosecution and this issue, Sumner County seems to be in some sort of illogical firearm law vortex. - OS -

I have to say, the first succinct response from Jonnin gave you all the answer necessary, assuming you mean loaded pistol. - OS -
Oh, you mean, like BATF explosive device, or AOW, or whatever, I guess. I was thinking more in the protecting property type laws. - OS

Apparently this doesn't apply to other guns that started life as pistols, that can have accessory rifle kits like the Beretta NEOS or MechTech Glock rifle kits, since they are freely sold without any kind of stamp being necessary, so don't see why you couldn't add a long barrel and stock to the Draco to convert to rifle...AND remove them to convert back to a pistol? - OS

If you want to open a can of worms, there are any number of municipalities around the state which still have the ordinance that all handgun carry is illegal EXCEPT for "an Army or Navy pistol, carried in the hand". Knoxville, for example. Since these date from well before the 1986 cutoff point, they are legally binding under TCA. 'Course, it's a can of worms you probably don't want to open. - OS -
Yeah, we'd be in a hell of a fix if we couldn't run around with bare arms. - OS

Gun Belt - Where to buy in Knoxville area?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yup. Have had one for couple years now. No better one out there, IMNSHO. - OS -
I think the Sumner County DA is an embarrassment. Classical "we don't care how y'all do it up north" attitude. The fact that this firearm is allowed to be sold in the state of TN should be proof enough that like the feds, TN considers it a legal pistol. States' rights with regard to having state laws that are more restrictive than federal ones is one thing, but this is just dumb ass redneck trumped up crap. Though the perps seem a bit on the umm, "unsavory" side, I hope the HCP fellow finds a way to sue their socks off. I know I'd seek every resource I could find to do it if I were the one charged with it. - OS

CDNN has them for 399.99 to 489.99. Really. Cover and Page 5 of catalog Nobody seems to undersell them on Mini stuff. Their mags are generally among the cheapest anywhere also. Dunno zactly why, just is. - OS
