Best not to contest charge with credit card first, pisses off PayPal, and they used to sometimes terminate account if you did that, as it gives them no chance to try and get money back from the other guy's account. - OS

Anybody else know anything about this?
Oh Shoot replied to bersaguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It was all the rage as topic a couple years ago. USA already signed it long ago along with 81 other nations, hasn't ever been ratified by the UN signatories as a whole, let alone been ratified by the US Senate. Not to mention that to think it really has anything to do with firearm ownership or availability to the US consumer is mostly Alex Jones level stuff. Here, however you feel about Snopes, they have a pretty succinct history of the treaty itself: http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/untreaty.asp And from Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arms_Trade_Treaty Rand puts out the periodical NAGR thang on various topics from time to time; I get them in the mail too. But I don't think this one is worth fretting over. Oddly I never heard him associated with the org until he first started making noise about running for prez about 2 years ago, when I got the first beg-a-letter from him and the NAGR, and I frankly thought at the time it was a way to promote himself to gun owners before he actually declared. - OS -
First one, by SSgt. Louis R. Lowery, a photographer with Leatherneck magazine about 10:30 am: The second famous one, by Joe Rosenthal, was some 2 hours later. And it was a grab shot. While piling up some rocks to stand on for a better angle, he realized he was about to miss the shot, so he grabbed the cam and took a quick shot without ever looking through the viewfinder. Didn't really know what he had until film was developed later on Guam. Rosenthal, btw, working for AP at the time, had been previously rejected as a US Army photographer because of his poor eyesight. :) - OS

It's still a criminal conviction on your record, a Class B Misdemeanor. And also according to 39-17-1352, suspension or revocation of HCP. - OS

Nah, you don't have to be religious at all to battle evil, ya know. Plenty of us atheists and agnostics will be willing to help out. - OS -
Tennessee Background Check Requirements
Oh Shoot replied to Virginiagunguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
JayC answered the question, though thought I'd add the (stated) reason for that -- TICS runs a check against whatever existing stolen gun databases on every purchase, NICS does not. - OS -
"Follow through" is my biggest fault with pistol shooting. Not to the point of malfunction, just for hitting something. :) Seriously, for some reason, I'll lapse into moving the firearm so quickly after a shot that I'm actually apparently moving it during the shot. Much like looking up during a golf shot before the ball is gone, and as they say, you'll generally just see a bad shot. - OS

Alabama Permit Holders No Longer Subject to NICS Check
Oh Shoot replied to Hydor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Brady Bill provision in federal law interpretation by ATF only requires NICS checks for permit every 5 years for using it in lieu of background check for firearm purchase. That and fact that permit must of course be valid at the time; I think FFLs still have to at least check with state that permit is indeed valid at time of firearm purchase and hasn't been revoked or anything, but can't say that with total certainty. Surely the sheriff issuance system in Bama must indeed use NICS now, and this is the change that occurred on 10/1/13 when it became a Shall Issue state? - OS -
Alabama Permit Holders No Longer Subject to NICS Check
Oh Shoot replied to Hydor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Still requires transfer through FFL via 4473. In all states. Still federal law. Look on the 4473, there's just a section where permit info is entered in lieu of NICS check. - OS -
Alabama Permit Holders No Longer Subject to NICS Check
Oh Shoot replied to Hydor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
To my knowledge, that has been criticism from some other state(s), but not the feds. You could be right, but I myself have never seen anything saying that. Was part of VA governor's "reasons" in the recent reciprocity flap, btw. It didn't seem to be an issue when the legislature discussed the proposed legislation using HCP in lieu of background check about 4 years ago, the only issues came down to the fiscal nature in committee. They went so far to even "estimate" (somehow) the average number of guns bought per year by permit holders, which of course was just seemingly a WAG, unless of course TICS ain't destroying personal info on gun sales as required by law. - OS -
Actually, forgot, it's now every 5 years, now that the 5 year renewal cycle has been phased in. The five years also satisfies the Brady Bill requirement for the HCP to serve in lieu of the NICS check for firearm purchase, should TN ever actually enact that. From the new 39-17-1351, that just took effect 1/1/16: "A lifetime handgun carry permit shall not expire and shall continue to be valid for the life of the permit holder unless the permit holder no longer meets the requirements of this section. A lifetime handgun carry permit shall not be subject to renewal; provided, however, that every five (5) years after issuance of the lifetime handgun carry permit, the department shall conduct a criminal history record check in the same manner as required for handgun carry permit renewals. Upon discovery that a lifetime handgun carry permit holder no longer satisfies the requirements of this section, the department shall suspend or revoke the permit pursuant to § 39-17-1352." - OS

Alabama Permit Holders No Longer Subject to NICS Check
Oh Shoot replied to Hydor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
1. ATF has to certify that the state's permit system satisfies the Brady Bill requirements regarding NICS check -- which the HCP does as far as I know. 2. The STATE has to officially adopt/enact that procedure. TN has not done #2. - OS -
Manufacturers include them with long guns because of various states' laws where that's required, and of course they don't know beforehand where any particular one will wind up being distributed to so it's simpler to just put them in all of them rather than re-handle at last minute before shipping. Same as the stupid fired cartridge that was only required in two states (and now in none). Some may well have done it just in the promotion of safety in general even if not required though. - OS

Someday. Many seem to have experienced the Taurus "forever warranty" as meaning it takes forever to get it done. ;) - OS

True. But my point is that any legal OAL smooth bore shotshell firing weapon originally configured with pistol grip is not a "shotgun" ("long gun" on 4473), but rather "other firearm", and is to be transferred as such on the 4473. 18", 20" barrel, whatever. IOW, this Mossberg Persuader model is an "other firearm", same as the shorty config you mention. Only real difference is that you can put a stock on this one if you like. Since that makes it a shotgun though, it's my understanding that it then retains the classification of "long gun/shotgun" then, even though it's still legal to go back to pistol grip on it -- though I'm not totally sure on that little point. I do know that an original shotgun/long gun (configured with stock) remains a shotgun even with changing to a pistol grip though, which of course is also legal. - OS

LCP question about dry firing, needing to rerack each time?
Oh Shoot replied to MountainDewed's topic in Handguns
Aluminum. ;) - OS -
Actually would be an AOW. Can't be a shotgun of any type unless it began life with a buttstock. Even a legal 18" smooth bore isn't a shotgun if it begins life with a pistol grip. - OS
-
Do you really think ATF would let Taurus sell a SBS without a tax stamp? In short, no, it is not classified as a shotgun for a variety of niche reasons, since it is designed as a .45 pistol with a rifled bore that happens to also shoot .410, never had a buttstock, is not in a caliber over .5", etc. - OS

They made the LCP into a striker fired now? No hammer? - OS -
That is exactly how Trump is seemingly going to get the nomination. He doesn't have the majority vote, only the plurality. As long as Cruz and Rubio are both in and splitting the actual majority, Trump wins the primaries. - OS

Really. The whole truck thing was Keystone Kops. Wasn't watching that closely at the time, but please tell me how HippieNinja Boy got on the roof of the truck after they left him tied up and drove away? - OS
