Y'all worried about getting raped? I mean, ya can't just go around shooting queers, ya know. - OS

Well, that's an interesting tidbit of Ruger uber trivia, thanks. But, they still make the .38 version and the .357 version chambers anything, so the question is still, why would anyone want the .38 only version now? - OS

Smoky Mountain Gun Collectors Show - Feb 5 & 6 Knoxville
Oh Shoot replied to lacon's topic in Events and Gatherings
Yep, no jerky, jewelry, tools, etc. Just mostly 10-150 year old guns guns guns. Very nice to roam around and drool, and be glad I don't collect wheel guns or lever action rifles. Had babes on roller skates taking orders and delivering hot dogs and whatnot, so it had THAT goin' for it, too! Two of the cops working it were wearing their ballistic vests, interesting. - OS -

Concealed carry question...
Oh Shoot replied to Plain Old Dave's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, okay ... I was seeing it all as more of an 2A constitutional debate, but ... - OS -
You can buy handgun at 18 from an individual, but not till 21 from a FFL (federal law). As far as TN statute, it's simply that it's illegal to sell a firearm to anyone under 18 for any purpose, although a firearm can be loaned or given to one under 18 for lawful sporting activity. ------------------- 39-17-1303. Unlawful sale, loan or gift of firearm. — (a) A person commits an offense who: (1) Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly sells, loans or makes a gift of a firearm or switchblade knife to a minor; ......... ( It is a defense to prosecution under subdivision (a)(1) that: (1) A firearm was loaned or given to a minor for the purposes of hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or any other lawful sporting activity; and ................. (d) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor. --------- - OS

Concealed carry question...
Oh Shoot replied to Plain Old Dave's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, it's a defense against illegal carry or possession of a weapon, not against going armed. Difficult to ignore that you are indeed armed. The statute name has not changed since HCP was enacted AFAIK. Charge is still referred to often as "intent to go armed", even though it should officially appear on written records as "illegal carrying or possession of a weapon" I think. Any of you LEOs or lawyers confirm that's what's on the written record? - OS -

Good folks, have bought a couple of guns from them, and know several of my cohorts here in Ktown have also. note: URL is not active - have never known them to have a website unless this is something new they are cranking up. - OS

That may actually be the one I carry, bought at Dick's for about $15 best I remember. Called the Lenser, runs off 4 357/A76/AG13 batteries. It's not "tactical", won't blind the bad guy or anything, but is pretty good for it's small size, about 2.75" long by .7" diameter. Assuming it is, it's well worth the $3.50, especially if the batteries come with it! Guess I'll take a stab on one myself, thanks. - OS edit: just ordered one and yeah, after you submit, says: "Your free Coast LED Lenser light will be shipped soon" Looks like they don't make that model any more, but if it has batteries, it's still a steal.

I don't see anything in the statute that says it has to be all parks vs no parks. All the verbiage is in the "a park" nature. The all or none has to do with each park, wherein carry is allowed or prohibited for the entire park. - OS

Private Sales at gun shows question
Oh Shoot replied to Sky King's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wrong. You can only legally sell to TN resident, handgun or long gun. A FFL can sell a long gun to a non-resident, but many won't. A FFL can only sell a handgun to a resident of TN, or ship it to another FFL in the buyer's home state for transfer there. True that you do not have to "prove" the residency of your buyer, his age, or whether he is a felon or insane, but only to have no reason to believe anything is wrong. But it's kind of foolish IMHO to not at least ask to see a driver's license to show residency and 18 years old if that is in question. I wouldn't want to stand too firmly on technicality of the law should it be a sting plus anyone who's made an effort to cheat that way, just might be a Very Bad Guy or nuts anyway. Btw, I met the Sky King in '67 or '68! - OS -
Far out, guess I haven't been that observant, didn't realize anything still came in cartons instead of plastic. The official testing may now proceed, y'all. - OS

Concealed carry question...
Oh Shoot replied to Plain Old Dave's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That's really an anti-gun talking point. Think it through, eh? Anyone who would criminally use their gun against you/your wife would not be deterred by being refused a permit. Hell, it's only a misdemeanor to carry without one, doesn't hold a candle to the felonies they can commit with the gun. Plus, it's already a felony for a felon to have a gun, so the paltry possession penalty for non-felons doesn't even come into play. If you're arguing that the HCP course makes a law abiding citizen a safer gun owner, I can only retort with this carefully considered and logical rebuttal: HA! - OS -
Sigh. Are you being obtuse or argumentative as an exercise in debate, or what? A loaded pistol without HCP in your vehicle IS an "illegal item", but it's not so in your home. Yet you still argue that "... Tennessee has already decided that one's home and personal vehicle are coequal in their status of protection...". But I give, you have worn me down with your illogic. - OS

I know you aren't naive -- cars are routinely searched on the side of the road without warrants. I dare say one's odds of being charged with a weapons violation is much greater than those of having to defend yourself with that weapon. Of course that risk is not there in your home. Yes, agree that it is an ironic truth under TN code that you could justifiably off an intruder to your vehicle, and not be charged with illegal possession, carrying while intoxicated, etc. Yeah, threw that in as just another difference to show how self protection statutes are NOT equal for home and auto, however. The overarching point is that one should not have to break the law 100% of the time in your auto, to be able to defend yourself in a possible once in a lifetime situation there. Since you can do the same at home without breaking the law at all, it's just not valid to say that TN gives same weight to both. - OS
