  1. I'd opine they likely used the HCP database to send out the solicitations? - OS
  2. Mod moved it. The other area, only originator (and mods) can post. Sounded like your call for action might elict some follow ups, so one of them moved it here for that reason, I'd say. - OS
  3. Simmons and Tasco in same range should be essentially the same and seem to get similar reviews. I just haven't owned either, so couldn't personally recommend. Erik's new Simmons seemed to do nicely at the 50 yard range where we zeroed it last week. - OS
  4. No, I figured it would be someone who didn't have a FFL, would start making silencers or something in home shop. I understand that whoever would do that would likely face the tiger, but I figgered someone would be willing to do it as a states' rights issue (with state law on his side). Surprised some org hasn't backed the first case already either here or Montana or elsewhere...and no, I know the NRA won't. - OS
  5. Thought one of the points was that a FFL was irrelevant if made and sold only in TN. - OS
  6. I stuck a couple of Bushnell 3-9 x 32 .22 Rimfire scopes on my two 10/22's about a year, year and half ago. They were under $40 each delivered, at the time through Amazon. They even came with tip off rings; I use those on one gun, but a set of see throughs on the other. They've done very nicely. Certainly my rifles, with only Volquartsen hammer modifications, can't even use all the scopes' precision, and they stay well zeroed between range trips. They're nice in that a 50 yard zero also allows use of the bottom ^ of the reticule where it fattens up as 122.5 yard sight (that's our "100 yard" distance at the Norris range I shoot at the most). - OS
  7. That's the point of the discussion. TN pretty much stands alone in this. - OS
  8. Hardly any other states have specific penalty for "carrying past a sign" as does TN. Most are legally non-binding, but simply come down to "leave if asked or face trespassing" type situation. I think Texas may have specific penalty for violation of the "51% booze" ban, maybe couple more like that, but TN is almost alone in having this specific penalty -- a penalty that ONLY applies to otherwise legal carrying citizens and not to someone carrying without a permit, I might add. - OS
  9. Far as I know, all shotgun shells are steel or steel alloy of some sort for years now. Maybe the silver ones just aren't brass covered, I dunno. Surprising lack of info to be found re construction, seems. Certainly any number of shotguns have various probs with the 100 count bulk stuff, common to read that on forums. I've not shot a ton of the low base silver stuff, but maybe 100 rounds of various brands have all done okay in my 870 synthetic model. - OS
  10. If by "aluminum" shell bases you mean the silver metal type from the 100 count of Federal/Winchester/Remington, put a magnet on them and you'll see they are not aluminum at all. - OS
  11. If we're on the same page, I meant the Toyko Electric Company or whoever it is that's the actual operator of the plants, not the government. The prime minister was apparently actually in a cursing fit talking to them on phone today, and there have been past issues with incompetency in their operations. We get the impression that the Japanese are extremely efficient in all matters of public services, sort of because they must be considering their dense population, but this outfit running these plants seems to be some sort of incompetent boondoggle. The US experts I've seen interviewed have been pretty "polite" so far in their estimation of the nuke industry folks there, but I think we're gonna see more criticism from this end soon. - OS

    IDPA Caliber

    ??? - OS
  13. It does seem from other reports that among all the other woes, the Japanese gov. is dealing with their own BP type CYA nightmare over there though. - OS
  14. I don't understand your comment. - OS
  15. They seem to be the only outlet taking pre-orders for whatever reason. - OS
  16. Well, any number of folks think this is a federally mandated fee, and I think it's important for folks to understand this is not a federal fee, but rather, a TN tax, here in the great free patron state of shootin' stuff. - OS
  17. Of course, the NRA could come to the table and demand that certain laws be repealed. - OS
  18. Money is only a factor in TN. 4473 check is free in other states. - OS
  19. Is it posted? Seems to be a private foundation runs it. But either county, city, or private, has to be posted to bar carry (except for Knoxville city parks). If city or county, sign size and content are even mandated, but not for private property. - OS
  20. And US made, unlike the Cold Steel. CS now has no US made offerings. Not that they don't still make some great knives, but just saying. - OS
  21. It's not really "backordered" -- the first batch hasn't actually been produced yet. Same with the new Voyager. Once it is produced, Cold Steel site is the last place you should buy it from, of course. Generally, not even from LTSPECPRO either, unless it's a closeout item special. - OS
  22. I believe the minimum search string for vBulletin is 4 letters -- meaning, it's returning a null result rather than finding "no matches" as it says? - OS
  23. Yeah, I forgot the smiley. Although the quake off Japan doesn't hold a candle to the tsunami damage. Not much significant activity in middle and east TN over last couple hundred years. Little history from the USGS: Tennessee But on the other hand I was surprised to learn we are the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone which is "one of the most active earthquake zones in the eastern US"! Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - OS
  24. You're really concerned about a tsunami making it to TN? - OS
  25. Well, I guess you're right, though this is beyond what we generally think of as filtration in a survival sense and stretches definition of the word, methinks. Katadyne does indeed make a portable one that doesn't require power, though, so on the coast it would be a pretty good addition to the SHTF kit. - OS
