  1. He's not an officer. He's a security guard. And an azzhole. - OS
  2. Well, did the TN dealer do the 4473? How, if he were just attending? - OS
  3. Irony of VA law: for years, you could open carry in booze serving establishment but couldn't conceal carry in them. So folks who normally concealed (necessary with permit) would move their shirts to reveal their guns while in those places. Now they've made it legal to conceal carry in booze serving places too. - OS
  4. Why did he even see the first one? User error? - OS
  5. Mention of Tulsa show a few posts above. Billed as "world's largest gun show": TULSA ARMS SHOW! At any rate, you can buy long guns (from FFL only, not individual!) out of state, IF they are willing to sell to you. Handguns, however, would have to be shipped back to TN FFL for you to take possession of here. - OS
  6. Or if you have an account, you can just print label and drop it at UPS store. The only downside is that if the package should be lost, they probably won't honor insurance because you didn't send it as per their TOS. - OS
  7. If not Knox-Tenn or United Rentals, dunno. - OS
  8. Gun shows have statute complaint postings? Geez, I guess I've never really noticed that. - OS
  9. Yep, thanks for all the pithy info on this stuff, Leroy. - OS
  10. Even 8+ was thought to be almost astronomical odds. Problem is, when dealing with stuff that has half life of death 5-10 times longer than all recorded human history, long odds are still riskier than in most other endeavors. The nuclear waste storage problem is the real crux of the problem, worse than even the occasional problem like in Japan as far as possible number of us affected. It's scattered all over the US, and has to be contained with constant vigilance. And so far, centralized storage hasn't happened, even after billions of bucks and a decade of work thrown into Yucca Mountain. And it's debatable as to what's worse, a centralized location that could be compromised, or hundreds of individual locations that could be. Same problem world wide, too. This is the real concern of most "anti-nuke" folks. It's just rather arrogant to think we can safely contain things for 30,000 years and more when we've just even had a country for a couple hundred, and nuclear capability for 65. The only real solution to dealing with the waste is to treat it on nuclear level to change it into something benign. Really surprised that has been beyond our science so far. - OS
  11. Well, the ironic answer to that is no. It's only against the law for a permit holder to carry past a sign. A non-permit holder is already in violation of the law by carrying and faces no additional charge by carrying in a posted business. - OS
  12. It's for tucked holster set ups that use velcro attachments to be totally hidden behind belt. Meaning, no clips or loops showing over belt. btw, no my Beltman doesn't have the stiff liner. Double thick bullhide is plenty for IWB on XD or OWB on anything including a Blackhawk. - OS
  13. Yeah, policy is obviously not being implemented consistently yet in all stores/states. Neither was signage at Regions banks, WalMart policy, etc. Not unusual. According to a taped phone conversation posted on OpenCarry to admin office, it is really ONLY about open carry, which is legal in a bunch of states in which they operate stores. - OS
  14. Yes. Most convenient place for me when I did mine was UPS Store in Halls. Do NOT get prints before turning in app at Drivers License center, need the app number to go with them. Plus otherwise you'll pay for prints, but price is included in the $115. - OS
  15. According to folks on OpenCarry Forums, Cracker Barrels in VA are beginning to tell folks they're not allowed to open carry. Has happened also in the Athens, TN CB according to one poster. Was first reported that it was up to manager discretion, but has now been pretty well shown to be a corporate policy. - OS
  16. Then pursuant to our discussion in the other thread, a 9 has over 60 times the energy of a 7. Shake is one thing but the actual surface deformation that occurred at the quake source would be a whole other concept of destruction had it happened on land there. Watts Bar Dam wouldn't survive being lifted 10 feet and dropped back down below where it started. (oops, there's a nuke plant there, too). - OS
  17. Best pick her up a Uplula before the big mass shoot em up comes. - OS
  18. Certainly, there was, but that math doesn't seem to address what the forces would have been brought to bear had the fault been there at the coast rather than 80 miles away. The quake lifted the sea floor several meters over a 50 mile width by 150 mile length, then fell back into a lower depression. Who knows what kind of destruction that would have translated to if had occurred at same depth below actual Japanese land mass. Still just not sure much of anything built could survive this happening directly below it. - OS
  19. One thing about America. You get the best justice, medicine, information, and entertainment in the world -- that you can afford. - OS
  20. TFA 'bout as active a gun org. TN has, I'm afraid. A lobby of one guy, basically. The regional meetings are regular, however, so there's some interest and impetus generated there. It's hard to know to just what extent TGO has influenced legislators -- there are beau coup emails and phonecalls from various members herein, though. But yeah, apathy became a significant part of the American ethos long ago, I agree. - OS
  21. Not limited to "restaurants", same applies to any "bar". You can sit at the bar, whatever, long as not posted and no drinkee demon alcohol. - OS
  22. Express yeah. FX Ground of course has extensive network of region to region. Pretty much 24-48 hours from/to anywhere on same side of Mississippi, and 3 days nation wide in the 48. FedEx Express (and UPS Express) are both continually shrinking. But USPS still has the most cost efficient service for packages under 5 lbs or so. Through the last 15 years, I've probably shipped and received 2000 packages via USPS. Only a handful of problems, and most of those were international. - OS
  23. History International channel still has mostly actual, well, history. 116 on Knoxville Comcast. Right now, for example, proggie is right up OP's alley: Engineering an Empire series. - OS
  24. Ha ha hee ho ho ho ha hah hah hah. (sorry, couldn't resist) On a tangential note, y'all notice the new Hispanic population stats? Wow. Assuming they stay predominately Dem, there won't be any red states before long. "Republican" may be a historic term only, like Whig or Bull Moose, by 2020 or sooner. - OS
  25. The quake was 80 miles away from the nuke plants and on a fault line that does not run through Japanese land mass. Likely any nuke plant on earth would be destroyed if a 9 occurred in immediate vicinity. This was a slip fault quake -- the whole Fukushima complex would probably be "somewhere else" had the quake happened right there. - OS
