Cracker Barrel - No Open Carry
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Nope. KY and LA acknowledge right to bear openly, just not concealed. While I admit this still "infringes" some, it is at least in the same spirit as the great American frontier days. Concealed guns weren't thought of as very manly back then; only yellow bellies and women concealed little sneaky guns. It would be a vastly different country if at least half the folks walked around with a big ole six shooter on their hip. KY and LA still allow that under their constitutions as a right you so correctly say TN denies. - OS -
Cracker Barrel - No Open Carry
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Good Lord, y'all. The OpenCarry.org map referenced here clearly labels the "green" states as "licensed open carry states". If you click further on that, it explains it as "Generally preempted open carry permitted on foot and in vehicles with a license; localities generally preempted." There are two "higher/better" classifications above that. I'd call that all pretty damn objective myself. How much more precise could they be about it? - OS -
Well, I've not handled the Izula, but I know it's super too. I just already had some Becker/Ka-bar stuff, so just went with it. About half the price of the Izula, btw. Only major diff that stands out is no jimping on the Eskabar (or the Necker) and they're both 3.25" blade, and it's a little wider, too I think. 'Course, the Necker has bottle opener on the end. - OS

There's NO other site as active, but... OpenCarry.org has state specific forums: Tennessee Also, for dealing with the TN undead, and other pressing matters, there's: http://www.tnzombieresponse.com Oh yeah, let's not forget TGO's favorite pariah at: http://tncivilsociety.com/ - OS

And also, vAquero - OS

Definitely a good one. That's what the Eskabar is, a merging of the Izula and Necker. ES(ESEE) + Ka-Bar = Eskabar Izula sheath more minimalist than the stock Kabar one. BUT, only one cord/chain hole, two make it naturally lay flat has been my experience. Since I don't work with Kydex, I split the diff by getting a custom made one from eBay maker: - OS

These things keep TN black panthers away. They work great! - OS

Well, most are not 'high end' or anything...just got on a jag for some reason, picked up most of them off eBay. First, you've got to decide WHAT you want a neck knife for. I've basically worn 3 different Cold Steel ones over the last couple of years. But all three have been for self-defense only. If I didn't live in "town" and walk so much, I'd probably change to a more "universal use" type. I started with the Cold Steel Super Edge, and it's still a really good viable choice for last ditch defense in the smallest package possible. For about 6 months now, I've been carrying the Counter Tac II, which I think you've seen. It's obviously made for only purpose. If I were just wanting an all around neck knife to wear hidden or openly if fishing/camping or at work for general use/boxcutting or whatever, just so I always had a knife on me, the new Becker Eskabar is nice a somewhat improved version of the Necker. Sheath (same for both) is overkill though, and I bought a smaller and better holding kydex one from a maker on eBay. Kabar also makes the smaller BK13 "Remora", which is stand alone version of the little companion knife that comes with the BK7 and BK9, not bad. Also, the Cold Steel Mini Tac Series is kind of nice as both an all around usable knife with rather series social encounter possibilities also. I have the Skinner. Then again, if you just want the minimum, the CRKT Minimalist is pretty nice. I have both the Bowie and the Wharncliffe. These, similar to the CS Mini Tac, allow quite the good grip in forward and reverse/edge out but not reverse/edge in. Even MORE minimal footprint, the CRKT RSK by Doug Ritter ain't bad, and also, of all things, I like a little $10 Mtech pretty well. The sheaths are as important as the knife. The little Mtech one I heated in oven and smushed in a couple of places so that it retained well. I've done that to a couple of other cheapos I picked up, too. And replaced even the Becker sheath. Sheath has to hold well, lay flat, yet release nicely, etc. Every bit as important as the knife, really, if you're gonna carry this way. At any rate, for my mostly urban purposes, I haven't changed from the CS Counter Tac for EDC. Of course, as you know, I carry several other knives, so I have normal use covered, and then some. I get a round tuit, think I'll do a little neck knife summary on here, with pics, as this is already all off topic! - OS

Cracker Barrel - No Open Carry
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Just to clarify, I myself wasn't really responding to just your input, btw, but the general suggestions in the thread about putting the pressure on CB. - OS -
Naw. I'm really gonna have to take the cure. I just went on a neck knife binge, damn near started a new collection. Sigh. - OS

Be damned, I'd never heard of it. On the Beach (TV 2000) - IMDb - OS

I have several XDs. But if they didn't make them, I'd likely have several Glocks. And not be depressed about it or anything. - OS

Cracker Barrel - No Open Carry
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
However reluctantly, due to the "not be infringed" part of me, I must agree. Biz tells ya please conceal and ya raise enough hell, they forbid ya to carry at all. Want Cracker Barrel to emulate Costco, Regions Bank, Y-12 Credit Union, Hooters, etc etc etc? HCP holders are maybe 3% of adult population of TN. Less than that actually carry. Those are not stats to sway CB's decision in an economic or any other way. This is not a suitable battleground for the greater good of 2A -- it's just tilting at a windmill, not a real enemy. - OS -
Maybe you should turkey call during deer season! - OS

Easy stripdown is why I bought the Beretta NEOS. Of course, it doesn't work, but it sure comes apart and goes back together easily. - OS

I thought y'all recalled that sucker Littlefield. That failed somehow though, didn't it? - OS

I ran over a dog on Panther Creek Road in my FedEx truck, years ago. Damn near as big as a painter. NORTH Panther Creek Road is even worse. There WERE "painters" here up until the 30's. All over eastern US. They were cougars of course, not panthers. But again, there has never ever been a documented case of a black cougar, ever. Anywhere. And they still kill plenty of them out west and up in Alaska and Canada, every year. Why don't we go for white ones? Albinism is not unheard of in most all mammal species, even homo sapiens. We got an Avenue here in Knoxville named for George Washington, but he hasn't been seen in sometime either. - OS

Dave, try entering TGO at: "tngunowners.com/forums" rather than just plain front door at "tngunowners.com" And logging in there. If no go, iif using FireFox, just clear TGO cookies only, so your friend doesn't loose whatever cookies he has stored, and try above again. I guess you can do this selective cookie zap in IE, but I don't know how right off. - OS

Just where might this info be? If you all got 'em close to you, then Friendship must be full of very poor marksmen, and since 1930 no less! - OS

Anybody still wanting one, this seems to be a good deal I saw today, $31 and free shipping: Plain blade: Amazon.com: Spyderco Tenacious G-10 Handle Folding Plain Edge Knife: Home Improvement Serrated: Amazon.com: Spyderco Tenacious G-10 Handle Folding Serrated Edge Knife: Home Improvement - OS edit: well, hmm, looks like the serrated ones are about the same on eBay, but not the plain bladed ones.

Not exactly "survival", just as The Road isn't either, but just watched it again on TCM; probably seen it 10 times through my life ... always such an impact. Doesn't hurt that I've always thought Ava Gardner (along with Sophia Loren) was one of the loveliest examples of female pulchritude ever in the history of the species. Just hard to believe sometimes that we still retain the capability to completely eradicate ourselves, really is. Anyway, for anyone who has never seen it, highly recommended. 1959, but not the least bit dated. And you'll never hear Waltzing Matilda in the same way again. - OS

I don't think there's any doubt they will eventually leak. The type plastic that milk comes in will too. Besides my own experience, vast numbers of reports of both on SurvivalistBoards and elsewhere. On the other hand, I've actually had some 2 liter bottles outside now for about a year and a half. A few of them burst during the winter due to freezing, but the ones that froze and only swelled actually haven't leaked yet (probably the ones that weren't totally topped off) so I do believe those babies can last indefinitely as folks claim if stored out of sunlight and not allowed to freeze. - OS
