Let me revise myself: I CAN make a PDF with Photoshop that retains image layers, if opened back in Photoshop. Mea Culpa for bad image info. - OS

Herman Cain WINS in New Hampshire!!!

I'd vote for Satan himself if he runs against Obama. Probably even Jimmy Carter. - OS -
Where is it? I'm on dialup still for a while, can't search around or do anything quickly. Is it a bitmap pdf? The only way to make it actual text would be to scan it and then use OCR to convert it to text. I'm still bemused though, as a PDF doesn't have image layers either. - OS

I don't understand. The only file I've seen to get anywhere is a JPEG. Which can't save layers. I didn't read all the links but Glenn, did Obama release a .ai, .psd, or .tif file or something? - OS

Ya know, it's not like Springfield hides the specs on these guns. To be precise, the XD .40 holds 4 less than the XD9 in both the short mags for the SC models and fullsized mags for all models. You seemed to indicate this came as a surprise. - OS

No, it's specific: "39-17-1307. Unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. (a) (1) A person commits an offense who carries with the intent to go armed a firearm, a knife with a blade length exceeding four inches (4"), or a club." So real question is: is any black powder gun a firearm under TCA? According to cannoncoker, it is, although I can't find the definition he mentions in TCA. Oddly, a black powder rifle is not a rifle under TCA 39-17-1301, but I suppose could still be a firearm. - OS

I guess these extensions come with a longer or stronger spring? - OS

My vote, too. I didn't even know you could do a 7 shot extension, thought 6 was max. - OS

Tornado in Chattanooga area!

Still 55K EPB customers without juice. Including my mom, where I am. Staying down here still she gets power back. One block off East Brainerd Rd. Might as well be out in the boonies. No real damage here though, very grateful for most of Hamilton County being spared the worst. So sorry for the Apison and Bradley County deaths, and of course, north 'Bama and GA, sigh. Phone still works, and a neighbor has power restored, so can charge my laptop daily now, connecting with dialup. Since all the cable and DSL folks need AC powered modem, this is a case where dinosaur internet technology wins out. And yeah, charged phone in car. - OS -
A slight aside to this saga, but I think an interesting question I've never considered before. The aggravated assault was because according to OP he had a handgun "in view". We don't know if that means in his hand or what. My question is, so you smack somebody while legally open carrying, gun never leaves the holster. Are you now guilty of aggravated assault since your handgun is "in view"? - OS

I played with one of those Chinese hammer shotties. It only looks like they don't hit the firing pins, as they spring back immediately after contact. Obviously, if they're firing the shells, they are touching. It's not like horseshoes, "close" doesn't dent a primer. - OS

We hear ya, and I suppose it could well be binding. On the other hand, the OP says he didn't understand that condition of the plea to be as it played out. And sure, it may well be that he couldn't get the same deal without that condition, but then again, maybe he could with a little better mouthpiece, dunno. Still seems there is the question as to the nature of that in the sense that there is specific statutory language regarding the conditions under which a permit may be suspended or revoked, and there's no mention of "voluntary lifetime revocation". I mean, sure, you can simply not renew a permit, just like you don't have to renew your driver's license, but neither bans you from EVER having it restated. Can you actually voluntarily nuke your own driver's license forever in a court, too? - OS

Mine has been fine all day around Brained. - OS

All Walmarts in Knoxville area sell guns except Walker Springs and Turkey Creek last time I made the rounds. - OS

Also, and I don't know the validity of this plea deal thing, but ordinarily, one would only lose their HCP for a Class A misdemeanor for the length of the sentence, including probation. I guess that's what the assault was pled down to, and that's what a first DUI is. I'm like several others of you though, somewhat dubious that a "lifetime ban of HCP" done through the courts can really stick. Of course TNDOS could later just use the ole "poses a material risk" clause and nuke it like they did with Kwik. Sounds like it only takes a letter from a PD or court to convince them to do it. - OS

Read my recent post? As Mosey says, there is a Florida cougar population. No black ones though. - OS

Wow. These really DID look like golf balls, quite perfectly spheroid, too. Looks like Knoxville still has lots of stuff coming your way that's past here, and there's still more south of here, too. Revise my previous blackout report: got out in car, we're actually in a somewhat isolated dark area, maybe 9 square miles; East Brainerd on the outward side of the interstate (Gunbarrel Rd, Mall, all that, still powered up), couple of EPB trucks down the way, looks promising for a fix maybe by tomorrow. - OS

Bout two hours of laptop battery life here in 'Nooga on dialup. Every section of Chattanooga area has at least 500 outages according to power board site. Last I heard on radio was 75,000 plus. Lots of straight line wind damage and I guess an actual small twister or two in what they call Chattanooga Valley. Hamilton County quite dark tonight. I saw first ever of the fabled "golf ball" size hail this afternoon right here in Mom's back yard. Spent afternoon reading on back porch, except when it was off and on too dark! - OS

I have no idea what federal law gives TVA the right to post property, beyond buildings. Maybe it's a "rule" like the USPS has, dunno. - OS

I think it's high time we had a black president. - OS

Of course "black panthers" exist. They are known coloration variants of leopards in africa and asia and jaguars in central and south America. They've been in zoos, extensively photographed, etc. Probably some in zoos here and there now. "Panther" is not the proper name for any species however, it's more of a catch-all slang. Comes from the name of the genus "panthera" which includes all the large cats, including the new world cougar. There's simply no documentation of a black cougar. Ever. In their entire range from Alaska/Canada through South America. And no documentation of ANY color cougar in TN since the 1930s, same as most of the US east of the Mississippi, except for a small protected population of what's called the "Florida Panther", a cougar which is debated as a subspecies. But no black ones. - OS
-
Oh totally agree. Wish there were Yetis, Catawampi, MothMen, whatever. They're really no more rare than a Black Cougar and equally well documented. Certainly not much stranger than some creatures we DO have. The duck-billed platypus comes to mind. - OS

Not religion, just a belief in a God. Different subjects, though one is generally based on the other. But Mosey pretty much got the connection. That and the fact that homo sapiens doesn't need empirical evidence to believe certain things on either individual or even cultural level. - OS

Yep. I definitely want at least a quarter on the dollar for my stashed cash. - OS
