It's just about time to really start taking them on topwater, too. The cool water temps have probably delayed that a little, though I haven't fished in several years, so don't know for sure. My ultimate favorite bream fishing is with flyrod. You can use wet fly stuff anytime, but there's nothing like grabbing them when they go savage on popping bucks/sponge spiders, whatever. Especially savage when they're on the nesting beds, the males will strike out of defensive even if not hungry, and the females stay hungry because they are confined to the bed until they've laid their eggs. The occasional nice bass you grab this way even on very small lures are always a bonus, too. - OS

Yep. That's why is so difficult to get one to operate out of home, except for C&R. You have to have FFL for each location if you operate in more than one, too. - OS

Count yourself fortunate that your "superstructure" still allows you to do that. The weight stress on back, hip, knees, etc makes that dang near impossible for many if not most folks of your um, "weight class" I myself can't really jog because of lumbar region (but it hearkens back to discectomy in my youth followed by many years of abuse afterwards). So I walk a lot, normal lollygagging pace is 3.5 mph, can rev to 4mph. Can even carry pack weight without undue extra pain, as long as I'm not actually bouncing up and down like jogging does. Water aerobics at the Y has been a godsend for me; I couldn't do half the stuff in the pool on dry land. The benefits aren't as immediately apparent as same activity on land, but over time are great, with much less stress on back. I was already walking 20-30 miles per week for a year, but it wasn't helping my top half. The water stuff worked on that. Also have a crude push/pull bike like thing at home which helps, but there's nothing like a coach to "make" you work out. That's important motivation for a lazy fart like me. - OS

Legal question about handguns
Oh Shoot replied to jonlisha's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I was asked to show DL just this Tuesday at a Wally here, and I'm obviously umm, somewhat older than 21. - OS -
Yeah, can see that. I only got 4 of the 3" long ones, may get a couple of bigger ones; would be easier to be more deliberate with more to hold onto, I reckon. Anyway, they really are da bomb. I put one in my walkabout pack rolled up in a paper towel in case SHTF on my way to the Y on the greenway or something. Oh, I forgot, end of the world starts Sat! - OS

Any trades, before I call Mom? - OS

Yep, I'm definitely one of those guys. Here's my daily loadout, in cargo shorts. Oops, forget the phone, Beltman, and pen! - OS

Ya might email him and see if he's going to any gun shows in middle tn. The two for $20, no tax, was a steal. - OS

Not sure they could take care of themselves without all the US technology we've sold em. They don't build all them Phantoms, Mirages, and Sikorskys, yanno. Matter of fact their air force is almost totally US supplied: Israeli Air Force - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia As to why? Pretty simple in that they're the only long term American allies we've really got in the whole middle east. Also big Jewish money/influence in all things in higher US policy since before 1948 to the present. Then there's the whole biblical moral thang, chosen people, even though Christians know they are all going to hell. - OS

Yeah, quite flexible. They give a lot. You can feel a really dull knife getting smoother, so you reduce pressure for a few strokes to finish it off. - OS

Paul Block himself was at last gun show here, demonstrating and selling these. I bought a package of two for $20. He sells them for more on line, though, although looks like you can get three for $30 or something. Gotta say, I'm really impressed with these babies. I put a decent edge on a couple of old Pakastani blades that I could never get more than thin butter knife sharp, and on better blades, it really does a very nice job, quickly. Sharpened three Cold Steel knives I use in the kitchen back to at least factory edge; also, had dulled my Buck 110 cutting a sizable limb off tree down at mom's during the storms in 'Nooga area, and it put factory edge back on it in 6 or 8 strokes. Unlike the little x crossed carbide jobbies like Smith makes, this really doesn't "rip" a new edge and leave the tiny irregular pattern, matter of fact doesn't re-profile whatever you start with at all. Probably still do somewhat better with knowledgeable stone work, or a more idiot-proof system like Spyderco Sharpmaker, but it's a better edge on most knives I've tried than I've been able to do short of that. All in 10 strokes or less. Strop on a piece of leather to finish. One thing he doesn't seem to mention in ads, or during the live demo at show, the twofer package I got had different colored rods on them. I asked and he said the more bronzy looking one was the model his dad used to make is more aggressive, while the silver one is less so. At any rate, they both work quite well. I tried two serrated blades, and it actually did quite a nice job on those also, even though it can't really get exactly between the grooves vertically all the way up, it sure made the edges sharp. Again, all this without profiling or hardly taking away any metal visibly, there's really not any filings left, except a faint trace of powdered material. Anyway, highly recommended for a quickie and effective small sharpener, beats all other of same category I've tried hands down. My take is that if it won't spiff up the blade, it's probably some totally inferior steel that nothing could do much with. The Block Sharpener - home - OS

Wow, this stuff is the berries! Threw a wadded up paper towel in sink and caught it on fire within seconds. Almost hot enough to do it to 22lb printer paper, but not quite. It does need a fairly sharp edge to spark it, not much luck with backside of knife, but sharpened side works fine with several knives I tried, both carbon and stainless. - OS

Well, actually, way law reads, employees have to make at least minimum wage with the 2.13 + tips, or the employer has to make up the diff to equal minimum wage. - OS

Starbucks is not "pro gun". Their policy is to simply allow their customers abide by the laws of each state, in a published release from them I read. - OS

Might start a trend. How about: - Armed robbery forbidden here - Bad checks not accepted - This establishment does not allow murder on premises - Patrons may not be accompanied by more than one spouse - Exposed penises will be prosecuted etc. - OS

Yeah, really loaded us up with the Radians corded ear plugs ...they feel as if they seal about as well as the Howard Leight ones I've been using, so seems that's really quite a perk in itself. - OS

Blackhawk Shoulder Holster System
Oh Shoot replied to Randy W's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I was being somewhat tongue in cheek, bu surely you know the controversy regarding the Sherpa? The right bit of crud in the mechanism and the gun locks in, but worse, the finger release can slip right into trigger on quick draw, has happened enough to be banned from some of the big training schools. - OS -

Legal question about handguns
Oh Shoot replied to jonlisha's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You can buy handgun or rifle at 18 through private sale in TN. Actually you can be given one at any age. (TN law) You can't buy a long gun from an FFL until you are 18, or a handgun from FFL until you are 21 (federal law). - OS -
Yeah, I'm a cheap bastard. - OS

Okay, I'll do Monday morning quarterback opinion since it's Wed: I'll grant that in a super rare scenario, some striker fired pistols might could go off when slide is DROPPED, but I know of NO circumstances that it could do so by being racked BACK. And even given that, this is a full sized pistol, so just how does one get his little finger in front of the barrel while racking it? The only way I can think to do it would be by racking the thing by grabbing it up toward the muzzle, and this model doesn't even have serrations in that location. I simply must opine that this happened like 99.99 of all other "accidental" discharges -- that being with the trigger being depressed at the wrong point. - OS

I feel much the same. I have original XD subbie, service, and tactical, all in 9mm. I tried everything to make the XD SC fail before started carrying it. Could NOT make it jam by limp wristing, ate everything I put in there, even holding it as loosely as possible without actually dropping it. I did finally find something it didn't like though. I was mixing various rounds in same mag, and found that a Blazer aluminum case 115 gr following a 147 gr flat point (or vice versa, I disremember) would jam. Every time. It took a lot of experimentation to find that particular bizarre combo, though, and of course it's something only a nut like me would ever have done in the first place. Of course it ate either round perfectly if that was all that was in the mag. - OS

Yep, confirmed, $30 total today when I got my Ruger Mini. Feller there (not Bill) knew about home page and agreed it was "confusing". - OS

Yeah, just weird, as only thing I can find onsite at CDNN mentioning shipping guns is in the current PDF catalog (which is same as the paper one which I have also): EDIT: Shipping WAS 14.99, but they add 2.99 for adult signature service (because FedEx Ground charges them that). Also, just to confirm, Bill's price is still 20+10 at the Alcoa store. Fellow there (not Bill) agreed their homepage is "confusing" about that. So my total in my hands for Mini14 tactical with Ruger scope rings and 1 20 round mag: $627.97 - OS

14.99 for guns, 9.99 for ammo or accessories. But for some reason my shipping was for 16 something, even though says add any number of accessories for free (I added two magazines). - OS
