  1. Imagine one of the 100,000 plus marches on DC, and everyone is armed with an AR or AK. Think the pols might be a bit nervous? - OS
  2. Kahr PM and CM 9 is still a little smaller, I don't see the big deal. - OS
  3. Okay, I'll buy that. My guess that had it been all or none own/bear, it would have lost. As will the next one. Why, because it would mean that the federal government couldn't ban firearm carry on federal property -- and the government will NOT put itself into an easier position to be overthrown by force, even though Jefferson assumed it would likely be necessary now and then. - OS
  4. And a good thing, too. Lower wages are better than no wages. You can no longer produce a product with the traditional absurdly high pay/bennies for unskilled labor of the Detroit era and price it to make a profit in the US. It's simply another facet of the upside down pyramid of population/resources that is toppling. Worldwide, but in the developed nations first. - OS
  5. I read somewhere a pretty compelling case that there are actually more people needed for employment in the supply chain from importation to final sale and service than all the jobs that have been lost in state side manufacture. Folks like to argue they are lower paid jobs than the ones they replaced, but there is also much evidence that higher technology and efficiency were already reducing labor needs, especially the relatively unskilled, at a very fast rate. It has been a trend since the steam engine that it progressively takes fewer of "us" to provide increased production for all of "us". Computers really bumped that up exponentially. - OS
  6. All the perfect victim blue hairs from my mom's clique/church have gone there since it opened. Never a hint of trouble. Seems much safer than our best mall here in Knoxville. And I fail to see why you consider other beau coup parking lots 100 yards or less from Hamilton's to be safer. Though I only enter once in a while at my Mom's request, they do let me in with my gun through Sears and the other satellite stores, no probs. - OS
  7. My latest box is a Thinkpad. No longer IBM, but Lenovo of course. But nobody makes a better Winders laptop. Has US made CPU though, which is sort of amazing in the scheme of things. - OS
  8. It doesn't matter. It's too late. The issue at present is just another step, doesn't much matter to the overall prob. The only way the US can ever pay the debt, or soon even the interest on the debt, while maintaining even the most pared down federal superstructure, is to inflate the currency such that creditors receive a fraction of what was advanced.(and of course, the citizenry a fraction of the current buying power of the USD) Only question if failing to raise the limit would actually speed up the process or not, and that I don't know. Either way, we'll be taking the lumps, might be better to go ahead and get real and get on with it ASAP. Can you say QE10? - OS
  9. I don't know why everyone keeps throwing up the Constitution in all these gun/freedom debates. Get hip, y'all, this is America, and America hasn't needed no steenking Constitution for quite some time now. - OS
  10. The average consumer ("average", just like "no child left behind", meaning, "lowered") hasn't a choice. Wages have remained rather stagnant if extant at all, lowest price is all that can be considered. Of course, it's naive to think that even if all those who could afford US made only did so, that it would have any real effect, since the have nots are over half the population now. If you don't net enough to pay taxes, you don't net enough to buy American either, for the most part. And actually, while half the foreign stuff is still junk, the other half has increased in quality. China, Taiwan, Japan can tool up for anything, it's just a matter of the specs demanded. Even Central and South America have made big strides. I've acquired some 15 or so Chinese Made Not Pretending To Be American Made Knives recently, from some of the same companies that have made the Spyderco, Buck, Gerber, CRKT, etc. outsourced models. They are now offering as good or better quality as those they made for the US names, and will soon be a worldwide force under their own monikers. SanRenMu, NAVY, Enlan, etc. The most expensive golf clubs in the world have been Chinese made for decades now, even though they say Taylormade, Nike, Callaway, etc. China just shipped the first part of the San Francisco Bay Bridge renovation. Etc etc. If the US ever actually ever again sees quantity and quality of production, or even quality of overall life, it reached in the 50s-80's, it will be at least a couple of generations down the road from here. So, yeah, for the most part, it is "too late" to buy American. Even half the "US Made" stuff really means "US Assembled". - OS
  11. There are two Academy Sports and one of only four Sportsman Warehouse stores left in the south. Of course, if your spousal unit is a mallite, Hamilton Place is still largest in the state? If not, thorough in the surrounding stores in the immediate area and it certainly must be. Mall is posted on main doors, btw, not on satellite store entrances. Also a Civil War buff's delight. The Dodger's AA Lookouts play downtown, if you're into baseball. - OS
  12. Yes, but the issue is over simple ownership, not carry. Even 10 states that allow carry to one degree or another, are "may issue" states. Which vary from "almost always" in Alabama, to "hardly ever" in California and "almost never" in Hawaii. They were not affected by the Supremes' rulings, nor was next to last holdout Wisconsin, which just finally passed concealed carry on their own, but had nothing to do with any federal rulings or pressure. - OS
  13. Yeah, that's why you can now carry in DC and Chicago, right? Hell, hardly anyone can even get a legal handgun in DC still, and nobody has in Chicago. I don't know what series of actions DC would have to take to allow carry, but for sure if ever Illinois gets carry, it will be for the state legislature to decide, and I won't be surprised if they don't exempt Chicago even then. - OS
  14. Bzzzt. Nope. They did not rule on "bear" at all. They left that to the states via their silence on the matter. You didn't say that. You said: If the perp is not INside your home, you are going to need extraordinary burden of proof that you were in fear of death or severe injury. Maybe if someone is trying to burn your house down down or shooting into it or similar magnitude. But not for stealing or defacing your property, including car, boat, or dog. Unless perhaps you confront them (with non-deadly force) and they in turn threaten deadly force. I trust you see that your blanket statement of using deadly force could land you behind bars quite handily. This ain't Texas. - OS
  15. News reports are generally about half accurate at best. Of course they "seized" it while Kwik was detained. Having spent way too much time reading Kwik's froth on a variety of forums, at no time did he ever claim they kept his Draco once they decided not to arrest him. - OS
  16. 39-17-1359 clearly states it is a Class B Misdemeanor. Do not all misdemeanors become a matter of record? 39-17-1352 clearly states that a violation of this statute will result in suspension or revocation of permit Just because a law has not been enforced widely (or to our knowledge at all) does not mean it won't be. There are cycles of enforcement in every area of law, from vice to speeding, you name it. - OS
  17. A further nuance of this that hasn't been mentioned in this thread, though, is the immediate criminalization of carrying past a sign on private property by an otherwise legal gun bearer. I think only one other state has a prescribed penalty for the act. All the others simply have the possibility of trespass charge if one refuses to leave. Seems to me TN could live with that also, and still preserve the basic right of the property owner to prohibit carry. None of the other states seem to have had any constitutional challenges with that policy. - OS
  18. All of those are way way overkill. .22LR 40 gr. roundnose in a good semi-auto is ample. Yeah, you might have to double tap once in a while when an oblique shot deflects off a skull, but with the thousands more rounds you can carry over any other caliber, you're gonna live longer than lugging .223 or gawd forbid shottie shells. Remember the army gal in the tree in World War Z? She knocked down several dozen with her issued .22 and then went on her way. Here's mine -- portable, relatively light, folded with irons for mobile quick easy shots, extended with scope and bipod for longer ones -- it also is effective in case everything from cats to whistle pigs become infected too. Plus the flash hider makes it harder for the zombie squirrel hordes to pinpoint your position. - OS
  19. Just wanted to also emphasize to you how totally wrong this statement is -- and a jury won't really be comprised of your "peers". - OS
  20. Yep, mine too. My dad got bumped from paratroopers for flat feet, so he could walk all over Europe in infantry instead. - OS
  21. This came as a surprise to me too. I've gone from 11 to 13 in last three years. Twice I've sold off new shoes that I bought on sale and stashed that became too small once I got around to putting them in service, and have a couple lightly used pairs gonna do same with now. And speaking of shoe inserts .. I recently got a pair of the $50 Dr. Scholls jobbies, using the fitting machine at Wally's. No go. Sent in for the refund. I've got a couple pairs of the cheapos that work okay in a couple of pairs I wear for long walks. - OS
  22. I never even heard Kwik claim they took the gun. You can be sure if they had, Kwik would have spouted that on all the forums from which he wasn't yet banned. - OS
  23. There some law in Tipton County that you can't shoot during the summer? - OS
  24. If I spent much time in Washington State each year, it would be. - OS
