  1. FDIC won't "fail", money will simply continue to be printed. Money is going to worth the same in the bank or in your pocket, meaning less. - OS
  2. There are unposted Regions banks in TN? - OS
  3. Oh, there will be some sort of graduated compensation to those below the cutoff. Prob is that by then, the USD won't be worth anything close to what was it was when YOU put it in the pot. Most younger Americans may well become billionaires in their lifetimes, even at minimum wage. - OS
  4. There's a good chance you'll be a billionaire before you're 50, even earning minimum wage. - OS
  5. My guess is that eventually, maybe even this coming election, a Republican will get elected with that in platform. Of course, it won't be enacted if elected ... The biggest reason the DC tyranny doesn't want it -- it's anonymous and does away with any special favors for any demographic, so tax code can't be tweaked for votes or payback to any particular constituency. Whole IRS could be reduced to a relative handful of 'puter geeks and lawyers, instead of the 100,000 + employees currently. Of course, millions of tax lawyers, accountants, and CPAs would be out of work, so a whole business industry would be nuked. All research indicates that the gummit would be rolling in dough with the Fair Tax, even during a down economy. Without meaningful spending reform though, same prob as now, as DC will spend every dime it can get, plus borrow more. - OS
  6. Correct. But a bill can enact the process of attempting an amendment. The newest GOP bill they're about to pass in the House does that, for example. Puts some date by which a balanced budget amendment process must be begun. Of course, like any bill, it could be nuked by later Congress before the start date. - OS
  7. Did you ever know that you're my hero? (somebody should write a song ) - OS
  8. Yeah, I think it's sort of a universal suggestion to clean the innards out of whatever you killed before you cook it. - OS
  9. Well, you can't repeal an amendment with a bill, takes 3/4 of the states to ratify, etc. Otherwise we wouldn't have any freedoms left at all. Actually, you repeal an amendment by enacting another one that nukes the previous one. Was my understanding that it called for that process to be started and completed before the Fair Tax took over. At least that's what I got from listening to Boortz; I don't actually know the fine points of the bill itself. - OS
  10. O's first priority is to get something settled with a time duration that won't rear it's ugly head again until after the election. WHAT the measure is, is secondary. It doesn't matter, though, as all these plans are not actually cutting one dime from existing spending level. They are all only calling for "less more". Only Connie Mack's "Penny Plan" actually would have each year's total expenditure less than than that of the previous year. Spending will still go up 5% per year or more under all the bills that have been offered so far. No "cuts" at all. And hence, no solution at all. - OS
  11. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tgo-forum-support/28387-faq-how-do-i-post-pictures.html I always recommend learning how to use the web space your ISP already gives you, but most folks use PhotoBucket or similar. Note that current version of site software is broken, though, you can't use the picture icon dialogue box to post the link. You have to paste in the link and add on each end. - OS EDIT: Bug with pic icon dialogue is fixed with current version of vBulletin. Click it and paste in link. Done.
  12. The Fair Tax plan has always had repeal of the 16th as part of it. - OS
  13. That's a little de-provement in vBulletin 4.1.4 ... surprised you haven't seen it till now. - OS
  14. Same forum software as before. I got on about 10:30, was too slow to be usable. Saw David take it down shortly after, it's better now, but periodic 10-15 sec page delays, occasional bursts of lickety split. EDIT: Generally much better after midnight. If it holds this during peak hours, it'll be big overall improvement! (except when Tactical Republic is lagging). - OS
  15. 30 Inseam Guide Gear Advantage Zip - Off Pants, Men's Clothing, Guide Gear at Sportsman's Guide Very limited sizes right now. All their items come and go, big turnover. - OS
  16. I think they're kinda dumb myself. It would prevent something that only grabbed the very edge of the trigger from actually firing it, but can't quite imagine what that would be, so I think it's just marketing hype myself and another mechanical complication. The 1911 and XD grip safety makes perfect sense to me, though. - OS
  17. Kahr has agreed to settle for that amount. No appeal. - OS
  18. I've bought more various stuff from Sportsman's Guide in the last couple years than anywhere else. If you spend say a couple hundred or more a year, the Buyer's Club thing is well worth it in overall lower savings, plus you get two $10 coupons that aren't dependent on buying $99 worth like the regular ones. They're also been very good about back ordered stuff, don't charge your cc till it ships, and never have gouged by adding extra shipping for the back ordered items. Also, the two returns I needed to do was painless. One was their fault so they paid the return shipping, one was mine, so I paid it. The only thing that irks me is that they won't send a +4" knife to TN, but will send you a collapsible baton. - OS
  19. He actually brought it out in parts, assembled when he had them all. And he did it with more than one gun, too. Btw, this all happened 12 years ago, has taken this long to work through the courts. Kahr is suing Diamond Back, maybe they'll get some of it back. - OS
  20. I'm a little lost in your story there, but can tell you that where pawn shops and guns are concerned, the shop reports all serial numbers to the county sheriff's office (on I think, weekly basis), along with name of the person who pawned it. At least this was the procedure in 1997 in Knox County, as I worked a brief stint in that office. What happens to that local database I couldn't say. - OS
  21. Well, one bottom line is, except for some states that have separate penalty for carrying in alcohol serving establishments, TN seems alone in specific immediate criminalization for the act of carrying past a sign in general businesses. And I know of no constitutional challenges from all the other states that have ever been mounted over this part of private property rights that so many here rant about. Also, of course, quite a few states have now enacted the right to have gun in vehicle on private property, again with no constitutional outcry. - OS
  22. Agree with third sentence. But don't understand your inflation statement at all. I don't have degree in economy, but can look at past economic indices and read history. The 90's just did not have much inflation, and what was there was normal outcome of pretty much universal healthy growth indicators in general. And I can't fathom why higher inflation not tied to increase in economic growth is a positive thing ever. Quick inflation after a flat or deflationary period is typical of some of the most disastrous crashes of countries over the world -- and that's what I fear is coming. Yeah, it has worked in the past, but see my comments in other response above re this. - OS
  23. It wasn't the war, but the aftermath of winning it. Our deficit at end of war was actually worse than now, % of GNP and all those kinds of measurements wise. It's just that much of the rest of the "first world", Europe, was devastated and we had the population, raw materials, and also gain in research to lead the world in sales of just about everything. We imported proportionally little but specialty luxury items. And though it didn't seem like much money per person, GIs who didn't have a pot to piss in before the war came home with some money, the GI Bill to better themselves, instant jobs, and a booming market in everything, since we could now make stuff for Americans instead of throwing everything we had into stuff for the war effort. My pop was one of them. Lots of reasons, these are some. We had another thing, too: room. Room to build cheap housing for all the expanding families. Cheap room. And Glock30 is right about one thing: it took a WORLD war, not these pissy little but expensive whack-a-mole actions. Lots of reasons WWII jump started us, but my previous comment about war pulling us out again was really more tongue in cheek than anything else. It's not the same country at all. We can't boom again like we did after WWII. - OS
  24. Yep, matter of fact I used to go there with my granddad some, and just about 50 years ago, too. I still remember the rickety old water boat rollercoaster thing, creepiest part was dark tunnel you went through before it went up and then down. Assuming it's still there, I'm sure they've rebuilt that baby a time or two since or it wouldn't still be standing. - OS
