Yep. Most of electorate sees him as an oddball or outright wacko. Also, whether it's a fair reason or not, he's just seen as too old. - OS

All parks which opted out of new law must be posted according to state statute. - OS

Original stock model? It comes with a weaver scope base. You remove the peep sight assembly to use it, scope base screws fit into same holes. If you didn't get one 'cause you bought rifle used or something, call HP, they'll probably send you one free. New one already has rail, you just remove peep sight assembly. - OS

Which shows how overrated the Stinger is. Hyper velocity light bullet disintegrates into shallow wound. To echo DM, don't pass up a good meal once it's finally dispatched. - OS

KISS plan: Buy a 10/22 basic carbine for $199.99 or less at Wally's or Dicks or Academy or somewhere. Get a couple bulk packs of .22 (anything but Remington Golden Bullet). Shoot the piss out of it, you'll never wear it ouit. Over time, add a few extra mags, better 2 or 3 of the 25 round Ruger mags for more shots between reloads. You'll want to get more precise, so at some point add a $35 Bushnell or Tasco or BSA 3x9 scope. At some point later, you'll want to get even more precise so drop in a $30 Volquartsen hammer to lighten trigger, also a $10 Volquartsen extractor, 'cause that's actually the only iffy part on a 10/22. Most all failure to feeds on a 10/22 are actually failure to extract properly. Maybe clean it every thousand rounds or so. Or not. - OS

Just flames out more on that (gulp) unsupported part of the chamber, yes? - OS

Yes, of course. Also those with folding/collapsible stocks. Fed allows measurement with stock extended, but some states' laws measure with minimum stock config. TN's laws mirror federal ones. - OS

There are now four states where you may carry openly or concealed with no permit/training whatsoever. There are about 20 states in all where you may open carry with no permit/training whatsoever. There is no statistical correlation that accidental (or even intentional) gun related injury is higher in those states than any other norm to which to compare them. But that's just icing on the cake of basic liberty and the attendant demand of personal responsibility. - OS

1. The states cannot deny a right guaranteed by the US Constitution. The fact they have been able to do so is because the federal government has denied that right as precedent. 2. The TN Constitution says that the state may "regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime." That regulation does not prevent crime, actually does the opposite, makes criminals out of otherwise lawful citizens. No, I myself wouldn't. But if the Constitution had an amendment that said "the right to own and drive automobiles shall not be infringed", then I would advocate for your right to do so. - OS

I would opine that you should be allowed to carry a handgun with no testing at all. 4 other states totally agree with me, and about half of all states agree with me as far as non-concealed carry goes. As far as specifically addressing the concerns of the instructor's conduct under the current law: did the students actually (eventually) get a 70% score on the shooting test and pass the written test? If so, he did his job. If not, he falsified the records, call TNDOS and drop a dime if you feel strongly about it. - OS

Thanks, somehow I never heard of it or noticed it. Then again, I've only been here since 1966. - OS

What/who is "Cherokee"? - OS

Pretty sure he's referring to the recoil spring/charging handle as being a captive, contained unit (and locks into the bolt). As opposed to say a Marlin 60 where you have a long recoil spring that comes out separately. And which is easily bent on reassembly. - OS

GOP debate this evening in Iowa. Any comments?

Most don't lead a 7 hour prayer rally with 30,000 in attendance, and do a tent revival oratory, asking God to solve America's problems. A really "sacrilegious" blend of politics and religion -- hearkens back to the Tricky Dick/Billy Graham travesty in Neyland Stadium in 1970. I prefer that we rely as little as possible on supernatural intercession in these matters, myself. - OS -

Ron Ramsey Endorses Rick Perry

I'd say this is pretty much the field with any name recognition at all, short of Palin or Trump deciding to tilt at the windmill. I guess if Christy jumped in, it might shake things up, but I'll tell you this, gun owners should not rejoice over that, he is not our friend on gun rights. - OS -
UPS and FedEx deny the majority of first level claims from individual shippers; on the other hand, they usually give big account holders the benefit of the doubt. About all you can do is go through whatever claim escalation procedure they have; did receiver feller keep the box? Did it show signs of abuse? Will he get involved to swear it was that way when he received it? Not much you can do to prove it wasn't that way on your end when you put it in the box short of taking a pic with it in the box, even though that's not ultimate proof or anything from their point of view. - OS

Dunno. Forget actual qualifications and logic from at least half the voters; methinks he might just be seen as too close to the Bush dynasty, just by geography and accent. Does sound creepily similar in voice tone and drawl. The bible thumping will also probably be a mixed bag for him both pro and con -- turns me off personally, but of course it's difficult to conceive of a candidate I wouldn't support against Barack. Romney has the mixed bag liability of being Mormon, too, plus the overly cool slickness of the Professional Politician. Newt is best qualified, knows how to get things done, is the smartest, but has no chance, too much baggage and comes off cold in people skills. Michele may likely do better than folks think, but it will ultimately come down to whether the country is ready for a female prez; I think that in final analysis, that's why Hildebeest didn't get the nod and O did. All most interesting, though, but looking like again, the GOP isn't going to field a can't miss thoroughbred. - OS -
Absolutely NOT! I echo others here, get that gun sent back to Ruger ASAP. Firing pin is protruding when it shouldn't for whatever reason -- SERIOUS issue. Hell, that means the frigging thing could fire when you simply rack the slide to load first round, minor stuff like that! - OS

Type of plastic. Bisphenol A (BHA) free. Google's your friend. Type of plastic is generally embossed in the plastic itself, right under recycling triangle. 2 liter dope bottles are PETE. - OS

He's just the epitome of slick politician. He's like a bionic compilation of traits and looks, the Universal Pol. On the converse, I get sort of a queasy feeling listening to Rick Perry. I hear him, but see Dubya, and bible thumping to boot. - OS -
Life is what happens in between making plans. When you do get flush enough, you probably can't do better on a Mini than through CDNNsports.com. They seem to have some special relationship with Ruger. My recent Mini14 Tactical was $627.97, including the $30 for transfer and TICS. They are generally the go to place for Ruger Mini factory mags, too. - OS
