Hard to believe anyone ever saw that area as "nice" or "safe", at least past the 1950's. I came here in 1966 and area on both sides of Magnolia were high crime all the way out at least to Chilhowee Park. Friend lived few houses from the end of 5th he inherited from his mom, it was very rough even then. We used to party in some of the "clubs" out there, thought it was exciting to live on the edge during college. Idiocy seems to be its own protection sometimes, seems. I'm pretty fearless, but wouldn't even consider walking around that area anymore. It's all I can do to grab ribs at Scruggs, and sometimes even that is ummm, interesting. - OS

Federal ban at medical facilities????
Oh Shoot replied to Sky King's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Excellent point. Another: in vehicle, even non permit holders must have gun unloaded and in locked box or rack, which goes well beyond most states' requirements. It's a "add on" criminal charge law for the most part, or one that can be applied after a "reasonable suspicion" stop. And has been used. - OS -
Federal ban at medical facilities????
Oh Shoot replied to Sky King's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
True, doesn't affect HCP holders here. But law exists which seemed to be the question. Also, with the specific mention of "license", would seem that permitless open carry is not exempt, for all the states that allow that, or permitless concealed carry, in the few states that allow that. - OS -
Federal ban at medical facilities????
Oh Shoot replied to Sky King's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yes, there is, BK. Law was revised after Lopez case, then upheld to this day. Another bastardization of the "commerce clause". Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - OS -
Though it's undoubtedly well worth the C Note for those who want its exact specs, it's not really a knife I'd choose to carry myself. I'll get my my mini-review posted in next day or two. - OS

Though I can't speak for all heathens, I enjoyed it. - OS

A courthouse is not a courtroom. Assuming we're talking HCP holders here, the worst charge for carrying past a sign to simply enter a courthouse would be 1359 violation, and we still haven't seen one documented yet. - OS

I got it today...helluva blade no doubt just on first impressions. I'll play with it a day or three and get it off to Erik...I'll post a mini review too.... - OS

I keep thinking I want that, but it costs more than the original gun. Beretta keeps putting various stuff on sale through web specials, but so far, not the NEOS rifle kit. - OS

Yep, if you don't need to conceal, GP seems better all around choice, beefier frame for less recoil, and an extra round. - OS

How to change a local law about knives CLARKSVILLE
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
TFA isn't really a knife right org, dunno if they care or not. KnifeRights.org might be more appropriate. But yeah, however it can be accomplished, knives need at least same preemption that guns and ammo have under TN law. There are LOTS more local city/county knife laws around TN and the rest of the US than gun laws. - OS -
Eric wrote and said that Lisa Knight emailed him that as soon as you got an out of state driver's license, your TN DL and HCP are void. I guess the only (I guess, legal) ploy if moving to another state that honors TN HCP is wait and try to get your new DL and handgun permit as closely together as possible. - OS

Yes, that's in the definitions part of the weapons section, but the only place I see that refers to "restricted firearm ammunition" in the actual statutory prohibitions is for possession or use of same while committing a crime of violence. (39-17-1304) Which means to me it's okay for use for any lawful purpose, up to and including justified deadly force. I think it's the "cop killer bullets" thing. - OS

Likely varies state to state. TN, you can use out of state permit up to six months after moving here. You must report change of address to TNDOS, but you have 60 days to do it, so assuming SC allows some grace period for out of state permits, seems to me you'd legally have 60 days to use the TN permit there as far as TN is concerned. I'd bet that most people who move out of state don't report their change of address to TNDOS, though. There doesn't seem to be a penalty prescribed for not reporting the change, in or out of state. - OS

It's all Obama's fault. The earthquake didn't find him DC, so a hurricane was sent up towards Martha's Vineyard. Hmmm. - OS

Sort of my thought. It's maybe not even gonna be technically an actual hurricane by the time it gets there, Katrina was a Cat 5, this is gonna be a 1 at worst. Then again, even that level of wind is not something they've faced since the 30's or something. And add torrential rain, surge, and tide, who knows. - OS

No worries. The only ammo prohibitions I'm aware of are: - no FMJ for hunting big game (TN law) - no explosive ammo (TN law, perhaps federal also?) - no armor piercing ammo in handguns (which I think is federal law only?) - OS

You can not carry a loaded long gun on your person, HCP or not, or even an unloaded one if ammunition is in immediate vicinity, except during act of legal hunting. Law states you may carry the loaded (sans one in chamber) long gun, with an HCP " in or on a privately-owned motor vehicle". So a bicycle seems out of the equation. Motorcycle probably technically okay, strapped to it or whatever, but would possibly expect to be questioned or hassled. Slung over your back would seem very gray, and I'd opine you'd probably you'd lose that benefit of the doubt if push came to shove. - OS

TN doesn't have a "brandishing" statute. Aggravated assault is possible however, should an individual feel threatened and report it. - OS

Mine's reliable now after sending in twice -- transfer bar slipping off sear, out of spec in battery safety. Or something. Quite poor trigger though, compared to a Ruger MK. Thought it would smooth/lighten up some over time, but hasn't. It can be had for $225 or less. Mine was just that one in 500 with a problem, I'd say. One BIG plus, it strips down with no tools at all. Unlike needing the manual, 3 posts on TGO, and 4 YouTube videos to do same with a Ruger MK. - OS
