  1. Marlin 336 is most available and it and older Winchesters are the lever gun standards Many Wallies carry the cheapest model (beech birch rather than walnut stock), was about $350 last time I noticed. H&R/NEF makes a single shot version, which is the cheapest I know of. That's actually Marlin also, which is actually Remington, which is actually the Freedom Group, which is actually Cerberus. - OS
  2. C'mon, it's Vontar, guys. Btw, they using the guns the BATF sent down there, that we paid for? - OS
  3. I don't think they do them here? https://gandermtnacademy.gandermountain.com/ Probably charge by the minute if they do. - OS
  4. If it is loaded or unloaded with ammunition in immediate vicinity of the gun, it's same as having it on you. It is not illegal to drink while carrying (except in a place open to public), or to carry after drinking, but it's illegal to carry/possess while intoxicated, which is a judgement call of the LEO/court. My advice, if your breath smells of booze, put unloaded gun in trunk or lockbox, separate ammo, same as if you didn't have an HCP. And best to do it before you ever walk in for those "few drinks". - OS
  5. Dubya went into Iraq because he had to do SOMETHING to show America we were fighting back, and Saddam was a world wide known bad guy who was an easy win with lots of show. And because on a personal level too, since his Daddy didn't get The Big Bad Man, just thinking with his gut (actually, dick) instead of his "brain". The WMD evidence was sparse and sketchy at best, probably will be proven some day every bit of it was trumped up and Dubya knew it. - OS
  6. There may be all sorts of local laws I'm unaware of, most unenforced, just like the "all firearms are banned except an Army or Navy pistol carried in the hand", which many towns have but do not enforce. Whatever. I stated the (somewhat unusually) fairly straightforward knife law of the state of TN. - OS
  7. Well, there's TWO of them there, so I'm sure at worst there's plenty enough biz to support one of them. People come UP from all over north GA to them also, also OVER to them from east and west. - OS
  8. Sorry, but your understanding is totally wrong. The only mention of some of these type knives is in 39-17-1309 (carry on school property), where it's moot even there, since the statute really bans ALL knives. Perfectly legal otherwise to carry any knife in TN 4" or under blade, folding or fixed blade, openly or concealed (except switchblade). The only "iffy" question is that blade length measure is not defined, as to whether it is only cutting edge or entire length of blade past haft. However, just like open carry of pistol, don't be surprised if you're questioned by LEO for a 4" hunting knife on belt. The only thing you got right is that there an exception to make it legit to carry longer knives in relation to various outdoor activities. - OS
  9. I'd say leave it alone unless and until it adversely affects your family directly. "Few good deeds go unpunished" is not just a cute adage. - OS
  10. Not many folks carry a backup holster, unless there's a gun in it. As far as two knives, I say, ONLY two? - OS
  11. Different strokes for different folks. Certainly the Spyderco tendency is for non "traditional" blade shapes and angles. I only own one Spydie, the Military, but do really like it, it's one of my four everyday carries currently (five if you count the credit card knife in my wallet ) Mine opens fine with a thumb flip, although I generally just start it open and use wrist flip, which is 'bout as fast and totally reliable as it depends on large muscle reflex rather than small one. I will say that the Spydie will probably always seem a little "odd" to me visually, but feels great, cuts great, super light, max legal length, great compromise blade shape for both piercing and slicing, tremendous leverage from blade/handle angle, etc. However, the Buck Vantage I carry looks more traditionally attractive to me, and also has it's own pluses, both aesthetic and functional. Guess my point is, there's nothing wrong with you for not liking a specific brand or style of knife. - OS
  12. My opinion, you carry a knife for SD, you want something that will stab well, not just slice. Great utility knives, but I really don't think the Izula/Eskabar/etc styled blade fits the bill all that optimally. Also, you'll need a good grip. I realize the add on scales for the Esee line fillls the bill there, but still not wild about the blade shapes for SD. Certainly any knife, like any gun, is much more effective than a harsh word, but .... - OS
  13. For concealed carry? Why? Throw a 16 rounder in the subbie if you want, but handgun butt is the hardest part to conceal, hence the shorter grip and reduced capacity of all the various subcompact brands. And gaining only 3 rounds from 13 to 16 at the expense of significant more difficulty in concealing, ain't really a quantum leap or anything. If for open carry or not carry at all, sure the 4" barrel will help accuracy. Or go for the 5" model. I have all three of the original XDs in 9mm, and all three are winners. - OS
  14. I chose not to BB gun any of the hundred or so that show up daily on my back deck here near town. I think they're becoming more of an urban/suburban species, learning from the pigeons! - OS
  15. That pic's on wall of my "office" also. I met him at that same gathering or another about the same time -- super feller. Also extending my sincere condolences. - OS
  16. Do a little googling. Finger predisposed to transfer from release button straight to trigger on quick draw. Gun locked in with debris blocking release. Serpa not allowed in some of the prominent training schools. Etc. - OS
  17. Yeah, but that was a legal reason rather than an engineering one. XD service is still sold with 10 round mags for the several states that still have that limit, as are all major handgun brands. The change from 10-13 (9mm) and 8-9 (.40)? in the XD sub compact was accomplished by re-engineering the mags. - OS
  18. Welcomed to the club. Good that you're dumping the Blackhawk Holster of Death soon. - OS
  19. We have porcupines? - OS
  20. "The AK-47 was recovered and authorities will determine whether it was an automatic, Furlong said. An empty 30-round gun magazine and two other gun magazines were recovered. A pistol and assault rifle were found in or near a vehicle, the sheriff said." Gunman kills 3, wounds others at Nevada IHOP - CNN.com "Aside from the AK-47 rifle used in the attack, authorities say they found a pistol and another rifle in the minivan Sencion left in the parking lot. " Gunman Kills Two National Guard Members, One Other In Shooting Rampage At Nevada IHOP | FoxNews.com - OS
  21. I put a stick-on decal on the outside panel on mine, helps give that little bit extra of solid grip, no increase in size. - OS
  22. Speaking to mag design, the original XD 9 subcompact only held 10 rounds, but about the time the XDMs came out, they redesigned it to hold 13, still flush fit. I believe the original XD .40 subbie gained one round, from 8 to 9, at about same time with similar design change? - OS
  23. He missed his calling, should be a radical imam instead. Oh, better send a good chunk of that crusading army around the US too, since we're over 20% non-Christian. - OS
  24. No sense in having a mouse gun if you gotta carry it IWB, might as well carry something bigger. To Charles: it's a common lament, sitting on gun and tripping mag release with back pocket carry, and not just with that particular gun. - OS
  25. Well, I could see no disqualifying clause in the HCP disqualifications in 1351, only in the reason for revocation/suspension in 1352. And the disqualification doesn't speak clearly to Class A 'meanor received BEFORE receiving an HCP. - OS
