    Beware of hot ammo

.223 is under $5 for 20 rounds at Wally's and Academy, 'bout same or even slightly less in bulk online. - OS
  2. I think it's clear that the odds of showing your permit up front triggering a bad response from the LEO is exceedingly rare to perhaps non-existent nowadays. And there is much anecdotal evidence that showing it right away has led to pleasant encounters and even no ticket or lesser ticket than truly deserved. I'm always amazed at how often some folks in these threads seem to get pulled over on the highway, but that's another discussion I guess. At any rate I can't see any real downside to showing HCP upfront (maybe in the early days of permit issuance, but not now), and can see possible positive results from doing so. - OS
  3. Apparently all Clarksville area residents, some on TGO likely know some of them. Carbon Monoxide Suspected In Death Of Five At Tennessee Charity Event | Fox News
  4. Somehow I'm still not very worried. I've even carried pistol in small of back, despite the common knowledge that if you fall on your ass, you'll completely crush every vertebra between coccyx and skull. - OS
  5. Not just for bank robbers; people trying to cash stolen or forged checks, break counterfeit bills, whatever. - OS
  6. Why not just nix the chain altogether then? - OS

    Beware of hot ammo

Only Tula I've shot is .223, but I've shot a good bit of it, never a dud. Seems as consistently loaded as the more expensive Federal brass 100 packs at Wally's. Matter of fact, hits higher at 120 yards than the Federal. I've also shot the Monarch .223 from Academy, always goes bang. It's lacquer coated so that's a no-go for some ARs, but my Mini14 doesn't mind at all. - OS
  8. Don't get how a mag safety could "partially" not work, but I suppose 'bout anything is possible. - OS
  9. Guess the rules prevent drawing from Ghetto Gut Grab position, or that could be the ultimate snob smacker. Shooting technique, of course, is already determined: - OS
  10. Yeah, but seems those Wolf rounds are really marginal in it, due to their significantly shorter OAL. Ah, that's part of the charm of owning one ... fragile egos need not apply. - OS
  11. The two young guys next to us really got a kick out watching Mike throwing them casings straight up in the air. But he wouldn't turn his cap around and droop his britches to make it a more authentic demo. - OS
  12. Nope, have to run DL, tags aren't enough. - OS
  13. TN already does, at least for any firearm/ammo ordinances past 4/8/86. However, allowing cities/counties to opt out of park carry is the state law, preemption doesn't apply. They are free to go yea or nay on the matter, as per state law. - OS
  14. Doubt if the French military ever had any reason to produce rounds for the Mosin Nagant. Certainly not after NATO anyway. Maybe it's actually US made for the French, so it's in Frog. - OS
  15. Plus, you're gonna be armed, right? Consider open carry, at least for that occasion. - OS
  16. Don't you have any curios, ornaments, or keepsakes ? I do, and at least one happens to be switchblade. - OS
  17. Gotta be something still wrong in firing pin train, or slide not going completely into battery (slide not completely forward) when pin is released. Semi-autos all have some sort of in-battery safety, but it is possible for some to fire being just a hair out of battery; close enough that they are generally safe as far as casing rupture/blow back, but just enough so that firing pin falls that little bit short. In either case, though, it is not performing correctly and/or safely and needs service. Not to mention that even 1 glitch out of a mag's worth is completely unacceptable for SD purposes. - OS
  18. That connector sometimes isn't strong enough to bear the force needed to get knife out of sheath, though. Depends on sheath -- I certainly prefer a stout hold to losing the knife. But I believe would probably work for this one. The dirty little secret about neck knives is that the sheath is pretty much as important as the knife. Must hold completely reliably, but still allow fairly easy withdrawal. Both the CS Mini Tac and the CS Counter Tac II I have are quite good both ways. The necker I settled in for now is actually a "lesser" brand, the Meyerco Law Dog, and though the sheath was okay, I could actually jiggle knife from sheath with a few big up and down jumps. I had a Kydex custom made for it, cost about 5 bucks more than the knife itself, takes a pretty firm jerk to get it out now, but that's what I prefer. Oh, the Mini Tacs are generally in the low $30s including shipping, best price, Amazon, eBay, etc. Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cold-Steel-New-Mini-Tac-Kiridashi-Knife-49HK-/170694070123?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27be28cf6b - OS

I'm still looking for that clean ammo, where you don't need to clean your gun anymore. - OS
  20. I have the Skinner model. Among my top 5 necker favs. CS really did a nice job with these. Yeah, Erik, they come out of sheath pretty nicely, they did a nice job on the sheaths for combo of retention/draw. Neil, I prefer chains, as they'll break before strangling you, but they tend to grab chest hair sometimes too. - OS
  21. Well, it really just can't, simple as that. If the cartridge is in chamber/battery for the firing pin to strike, the mag has already done its job. Must have been coincidence of another factor changing at time of cleaning mag. - OS

    Beware of hot ammo

Like many on this forum I'm sure, I've shot beau coup Tula, mine all .223, with no probs. Tula is one of the big two or three munition makers in Russia -- as far as I know, that's where all the steel cased Wolf is still produced. Can be a bad batch from any maker, but I wonder how much of this particular report is just subjective rather than empirical. Truly dangerous runs of hot loadings are discovered very quickly in the shooting world, and reported/recalled; don't think I've seen any regarding Tula. A stuck case doesn't necessarily equal a hot load. It's not all that uncommon, especially with stell cased ammo. I've had a couple of steel cases stick in my Ruger Mini 14 also. Heck, I've had Blazer aluminum in really tight in my .355 SP101, too, had to hit ejector rod on table top to break it out. - OS
