  1. They're good enough. Wore them down some for 3 years with FedEx truck, though. - OS
  2. It's the Great American Success Story. The American public has voted with it's patronage. Seems everyone wants to penalize success, though. Tax the rich more, boycott Wal-Mart, whatever. Actually, Wally's last few quarters have been record lows, which should tell ya just what a bind this country is in -- when folks can't afford Wally, well.... - OS
  3. I hope so, since we've paid Yemen half a billion dollars to fight terrorism. Surely that includes our having at least a few special forces fellers in there? If not, seems an extra mil or two would persuade the Yeminis to grab him rather than just drop the dime. - OS
  4. This guy may be Mick Strider? (Burger) - OS
  5. The "inferior" Marlins and Rugers at Wal-Mart are produced by Haitian slave labor in El Salvador from parts made in Pakistan. Remington, Federal, and Winchester et al, make special runs to insert bum primers and random powder loads for the product stocked at Wally's. I know this all to be true. And I used to have a pet TN black panther, so I should know. - OS
  6. Is this more of the "not the same quality gun that they give Walmart" urban firearms legend? Btw, a dealer would be the absolute last place I'd try to sell a gun. - OS
  7. Yeah, I'm always extremely leery of any precedent that smells the least bit Orwellian. Remember, all you servicemen on here are already declared as "likely home grown terrorists", eh? There could be a lot of folks who don't need a trial before execution, since the Patriot Act lets damn near anyone be declared an "enemy combatant", defined by the powers that be. Of course, I have all confidence in Eric Holder and the rest of the justice Dept, Hildebeest and the State Department, etc etc. Don't you? - OS
  8. The shoe bomber's offense actually happened over international air space, AFAIK? - OS
  9. Spin it this way, too, then, to follow Crimson's misgivings: is it okay to snuff him if he's spouting and recruiting the same Al Qaeda stuff from his bedroom in Peoria? If not, exactly how does his physical location change the equation? - OS
  10. I scored my hard to get Marlin 1894 in .357 from Wally and best local price on my first Mini14; I figure that covers a multitude of minor irritations there for a long time. Plus, really, if Wally ever quits selling ammo, most of us would be sorry to see that often poor, but at least extant service disappear. - OS
  11. He generally dresses like this:
  12. He's okay for a draft dodger and poacher. - OS
  13. I wouldn't think of cranking up the car to go across the street, even at my advanced age. - OS
  14. Whole ET area is ragweed nirvana, if you react to that. I never was, until I woke up one Labor Day weekend out in the country with my eyes swelled shut. Happened all of a sudden around 35. Really bad for about 15 years, had to double pill up from Labor Day to first frost, now much less so, strange how the bod can change that way. - OS
  15. How long we had OD channel? I used to gripe because we didn't, and now find could have been watching it all frigging along. - OS
  16. Yep, that connects to Goose Gap Rd, takes you all the way to Walden's Creek Rd, go left short distance to Wears Valley Rd, and you're at PF city limits. - OS
  17. How do you guy's get Outdoor Channel? Direct TV or what? Has it slipped onto Comcast and I didn't know? - OS edit: Summbeach, it's on 731, dang just found out!!
  18. Ummm, it was a jokie poo. - OS
  19. Yeah, that's what got me cranking on the SRM/Enlan/Navy...average under $15 each with shipping, same companies that make the PRC versions for Spyderco, Buck, Kershaw, etc, but directly under their own names. I need to do a separate thread, though. - OS
  20. Oh, I've had several in barbershops back in the day. But having a pro versus moi doing it is a big diff! - OS
  21. Stay away from BladeForums, then. I got curious about the Chinese SanRenMu, Enlan, Navy knives, got a couple to try, now have 17 of them! - OS
  22. You whippersnappers are sooo straight laced. - OS
  23. The Svord model I got opens pretty easily, and stays really locked open once your hand is around it. Very very sharp flat grind also. Just a really basic (and old) way of conceiving a "locking" folder with minimal machining. This is the one I got: (the tang actually seats lower in the handle than the pic depicts) PK - Peasant Knife 3 " - OS
  24. Ah, didn't know. Just knew there were some without it, thought was an optional model or something, thanks. Speaking of traditional style knives, I got a "peasant knife" some time back, it's pretty nifty too: Seems Svord is the only big maker of them anymore. - OS
  25. Since you believe in such pure divine fatalism, why have a gun at all, or certainly ever carry one? Or wear a seatbelt, or lock a door, get medical attention, etc? - OS
