On the surface, it seems much the same argument as universal driver's license reciprocity, but it's really not. The former really does logically fall under the Commerce Clause, but no way handgun permits do. If passed, guaranteed that several states will run this up the judicial ladder, just as ObamaCare has been. Probably most of the May Issue states would unite in the suit. Little doubt that the Supremes would ultimately nuke it. Hell, it's possible that there would be even LESS reciprocity around the country, as some states may react with more exclusivity, and it would strengthen the resolve of May Issue states to remain that way. A good sweeping change, if there were to be one, would be to mandate all states to be Shall Issue. Better would be universal constitutional carry. But either of these would suffer same outcome as above through the courts. But overall, what the Fed may grant is always just a precedent for what the Fed may ban. Who governs best governs least, and nowhere is this more true than with gun laws and the federal government. - OS

I have an old Charter Undercover from 60's, it's swell. Was one of the first alloy frame revos. Actually it resides at my mom's these days: Best advice seems to be to avoid vintages that say "Charco" or "Charter 2000" on them. There was apparently some marginal engineering shortcuts taken during a period of one or more of their bankrupticies/takeovers. These are sometime between 1996-2005. - OS

Shoots fine in my 2 Mini 14s. Seems about as hot as anything else I generally shoot (Wolf, Tula, and including the Federal brass stuff). Note that it's lacquer coated though, 'bout the last stuff I see around that still is, 'cept for Brown Bear. - OS

TN has the .10 tax for good many years now, don't remember when it started. It was put in there for the TWRA, supposed to be totally dedicated to them. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - License Information (toward bottom of page) Most places don't show a separate charge for it on ticket like Walmart does, but all in state sellers must pay it, and hence pass it along to customer. And yeah, the sticker has to be on each individual box, even if you bought a case with all the smaller boxes inside. Matter of fact, I had to wait for a bit at Academy a couple months ago, got a case of Monarch, but the guy had to pull all the individual boxes and put the stamps on, as hadn't hit the shelves yet. - OS

200+ GUNS Powell Auction this coming Sat.
Oh Shoot replied to z90HD's topic in Events and Gatherings
I don't get the attrition; you mean you were worn down, or last bidder standing, or ? I mean, you actually found things at a worthy price to keep, or turn? - OS -
I knew you wuz a good dad. BTW, if you wind up getting a shottie for you, man up and get a 12. It's the standard. Your kid can work his way up to it. I think I was 10 or 11 first time I shot my grandad's. Old Remington 1900 double barrel. Small wood stock with metal buttplate. Brutal. Bruised me every time. I loved/hated it. Most all have decent padding now, plus you can add even a more forgiving one. - OS

Touché Here's the deal: shotguns kick. 20's kick less than 12's, but it's still a substantial kick, especially for a kidnik. But recoil is subjective too, in that some folks like the "violence" of it, some will never shoot the second shot. For a kid, if you really want rifle/shotty I'd look for .22/.410. You could add 20 or 12 gauge barrel later with the HR/NEF. (I think, you'll have to look at what's available there. You do have to send the receiver in for them to fit new barrels, they won't mail you one, so of course best to get the two barrels of your immediate choice ordered together -- dunno how Rossi handles it). Anyway, I was just throwing out the combo thing you mentioned. A .22, whether it's single shot bolt, or bolt model with mag (I don't see too much diff really in safety and function) is always the first choice for young new marksmen. So you might just concentrate on that for now and buy yourself one of the cheap pump shotguns that will be on sale everywhere for xmas . - OS
-
The other major maker is H&R/NEF. They only offer a couple of combo packages but you can add a barrel to most of their guns: H&R 1871 - Barrel Accessory Program Both companies' offerings should be fine. I been thinking I'd like to have a Rossi single shot .223 as a backup gun, since they're the only place I can find that still makes one with iron sights. Only you can say when a kid is old enough. I was shooting some under my granddad's and dad's supervision at about that age, and some here start 'em much younger than that. - OS

Simple upside down pyramid of population overdriving resources. Basically an enviro problem, but like all things now, translated into economics first. Notice the world wide "recession"? Just speaking of the USA, if we have a depression here "only" as bad as the 30's (it'll likely be much worse), we'll likely lose a large part of our population this time around. For lots of reasons, but suffice it to say it ain't remotely the same country as it was in the 30's. Besides the population demographics and JIT supply system, add to that the loss of a national ethos. People won't stand in bread lines nowadays -- not that there could be enough of them anyway. If things get bad enough for social services to break down (think water treatment and sanitation alone) then you get the Big Biblical Bad Stuff, and Hell really cranks it up. In the wild, when populations hit the wall, they don't just pare back to fit the supply, they really crash far below it. I would suspect homo sapiens to be similar. Again, totally uncharted waters now, so past history may be only partially instructive at best. I always like to end the evening on an up note, so thanks for asking. - OS
-
Well, there have been several mass extinction events before, so certainly we're cosmically due any time. But we're also in uncharted territory population-wise, so we may well be able to handle the majority of it ourselves, even without using nukes. - OS

Already been through the Osage orange suggestion. - OS

Basically emphasizes to me how overcrowded we are. - OS

Did you know that Stephen Jobs and Bill Gates were both born in same year? I don't know that any conclusions about their respective operating systems should be drawn from that, though. - OS

Pretty sure I've seen a post by David 'splaining it in the past, but can't find it, don't remember it, but thought I'd just post this incredibly helpful response anyway. - OS

200+ GUNS Powell Auction this coming Sat.
Oh Shoot replied to z90HD's topic in Events and Gatherings
Has anyone here, or even know anyone who has, EVER bought a gun at this auction? - OS -
See if a different gateway makes any diff. If not, system video codec must be bruised or something: Earth From Space: Video Shows Stunning View From International Space Station International Space Station around the world spectacle (video) - Capital Weather Gang - The Washington Post Compilation | Earth | Time Lapse View from Space | Fly Over | Nasa, ISS - YouTube - OS

Wow, incredible that whole border is actually lit well enough to see from space! Blows my mind. Hell, we can't even build an unlit fence on ours. - OS

Is permit required for black powder pistol?
Oh Shoot replied to graywolf's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Hey, thanks for playing, 10 months later and all . For all of you who can't or don't want to log in through link to see it, that's the TN AG's opinion that a felon may possess a black powder gun in TN. However, doesn't mean he can carry it (loaded) without a permit, which is really what thread is (was) about. And of course, a felon can' get a permit. Welcome to TGO. - OS -
"Created 07-aug-2010 Updated 23-jul-2011 Expires 07-aug-2020" Guess one wouldn't know if they are indeed "old faithful" for some time. I see they are optimistic though, have paid for domain name for a decade. - OS
-
They both have nukes, maybe something happened. - OS
-
Yeah, he only has to pay it if he goes on the lam. Seems reasonable, right? - OS
-
Well, you can grab a still, as I did. Dunno if it's possible with any operating system to have a video play over whole desktop as wallpaper, seems it would drive you nuts if you could. Then again, that might be up your alley ... I mean, planet! :) - OS
