I was FedEx Ground guy for 3 years. Lord, the stories. As far as USPS, I've probably sent a thousand packages over the last 15 years, and though there have been plenty of glitches, never had a domestic one actually lost or destroyed. But I did once have two wedges broken completely in half by UPS, which being short stubby clubs, and packed in one of those tough triangular boxes, really took some creative destruction on their part. - OS

Is this a search and is it legal?
Oh Shoot replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
No, I'm thinking the situation probably will simply never arise. A HCP holder would be a total idiot not to admit he was armed, or had guns in the vehicle, since there's no downside, short of having an illegal weapon like unstamped NFA item or something. If he's idiot enough to refuse to answer, most likely that situation is going to escalate to something else that he could be charged with, or the LEO will just drop it, one of the two. But I don't think you'll ever see a charge of "refusing to inform LEO of existence or location of weapons". And sure, if the LEO is pissed enough he could write to TNDOS and see if he could get the doofus' permit revoked, but again, it would have to be for "danger to public" or something I'd say. I guess there is a "failure to obey lawful order" statute? And the "interfering with an investigation" (though that seems quite the stretch). But unless those are Class A 'meanors, that wouldn't get permit pulled on those grounds either. It's mostly one of those "freedom vs police powers" debates, can't really see much in the way of real world application, though if TWO azzholes find themselves at loggerheads anything's possible! - OS -
Cheapper Than Dirt just doesn't get it...
Oh Shoot replied to The Average Joe's topic in General Chat
I've bought beau coup from them through the years. Odds and ends, some ammo. For a couple of years they had the cheapest Rem Golden Saber in the US. A lot of their molle stuff is fine and low priced, other odds and ends. Never the slightest prob. I'm non-discriminatory shopper; best price including shipping (you do have to watch out for the two warehouse thing, though) for what I want gets my bux in general. I'll pay somewhat over that if can find locally, but not usually more than about 10%. I see that Reservation Reward thing still exists (had to look it up) but never ran into it. Must have been fairly short lived association, never seen it as option on any of the places I buy from. - OS -

Dems losing mind over new Voter ID laws...
Oh Shoot replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Holder just nixed South Carolina's picture ID law that was supposed to go into effect first of the year. But apparently TN's new law, which is pretty much identical, is not being challenged, due to SC already being on a list of states which must ask permission to change any voting laws because of past racial inequalities. I'm away on dialup, so can't find you a quick news link. - OS -

Well, let's see, cop can disarm you, but only if you are armed. If you say you're not armed, he won't disarm you unless you are searched. Need a reason to search. Sort of. No law against a cop lying to you, or you lying to a cop (unless you want to argue hindering an investigation, which is also not grounds to pull a HCP, unless it's Class A 'meanor or higher). 39-17-1351 doesn't say you must inform if you are armed, only show permit on request, hence there's no penalty prescribed for lying about whether you are armed. So this wouldn't be a violation of 39-17-1351. So, like Kwik, I guess a letter or two from the LEA to TNDOS might get your permit revoked, but not for violation of 1351, but could claim "danger to public" (which is basis for Kwik's being pulled). Or not. All quite clear to me. - OS -

Wasn't only Radnor, took Bellemeade to ice it -- but comparing Kwik's behavior to this discussion is really really stretching. - OS -

Forget all that. My question is what provision in TCA allows your permit to be jerked for not responding to an officer about whether you have a weapon? Or even lying to him about it? - OS -

There's a charge called "concealing your crime" on top of committing it? Is it a misdemeanor or a felony? (Afraid that I must call horse pucky on that premise, even though it does sound quite Machiavellian, Makiaveli) - OS -
Well, whatever the motive, surely hope he turns up. - OS

Yours is about the only complaint I've read about that kind of unreliability with the sub2K. Can't imagine what's up with it. Mine has fed on everything I've tried, including lead nose and metal cased. Surely they'll straighten it out for you. Majority of Kel-Tec probs seem to be with the handguns. - OS

There's no time limit on media vetting these folks, fair or not. Other candidates have had skeletons dating back 15 years or more brought to the forefront, too. Of course, there are wildly different standards for GOP vs. Dem media vetting. - OS -

Kel-Tec states: "All Kel-Tec firearms have an expected life of 6,000 rounds or more." Not uber reassuring, I admit. However, lifetime warranty. However², only original owner is now honored. I bought a slightly used Sub2000 9mm recently, really like it. However, the front sight post broke in half for mysterious reasons. However², got new one for a couple bucks. However³, small nut was lost also, and nut/bolt wasn't in their parts online shop, and can't find a nut with outside dimensions small enough to sit down in side of windage adjuster to hold the whole thing together. That said, (and I'll kludge it together till I find one) dang thing shoots minute of torso out to 125 yards with no front sight post at all! - OS edit: if you want one, CDNN has the Glock version for $299.99 + 19.99 shipping, doubt if you'll find one new cheaper even with shipping and transfer assuming you know a shop that'll do it for $25 or less.

Ron Paul is in The Fight of His Life, We Must Stand With Him!
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
There are few things on which I'd bet the farm, but RP not getting the nomination is likely one of them, and not being elected prez surely is. The fear remains that he might do an independent run, though. If he did, possibility exists that he becomes the biggest hero in the history of the Democratic Party. - OS -

I only mentioned two minor points, no aid to Israel and hands off Iran, let em get the bomb if they can. Enough for me. Anyway, all the current sure in the polls is just about Iowa, only place his show is gonna fill the house. And it may not be SRO only there, either. Caucus is much different from primary -- people actually show up and talk, speak in front of the assemblage for candidates. Each one can last an hour or two, whole assemblage can be swayed in that time, etc. Much more of a crap shoot compared to the pre-polling than an actual primary. And to top it all off, the results are non-binding to the state GOP convention which eventually casts the votes that count toward national GOP nominating process. I predict that even if he wins Iowa caucus, it will be only "primary" he does win, and won't wind up getting the nod from Iowa state GOP in the longrun in any account. - OS -
