  1. ?? "Notification of Receipt of the Appeal If you were denied, the AST (FBI Appeals Service Team) will respond by providing you with the general reason for denial within five business days of the receipt of your inquiry. and "If the AST is unable to resolve your appeal, you will be provided referral information to contact the agency maintaining the record on which your denial or delay was based." https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/appeals/nics-guide-for-appealing
  2. All very interesting to be sure, and it would be doubly interesting if the FFL kept those memos. Again, it's unclear just what form his software could/would have generated but whatever it was, then he should still have it, and certainly at least now that the courts have decided that it is only authorized to be done only with certain types of rifles, and only in four states, he should notify the people on which the reports were generated, as they may well have individual or class action legal actions at their disposal. - OS
  3. That has been in effect since the FFL was created in 1968, for all FFL holders, not the issue. - OS
  4. For all guns? Was there a secret form for that? Did you call someone? Or what? - OS
  5. Never seen that reported anywhere else, ever, so dunno what to think of it. Report it how? Call up your local field agent and narc on them or what? - OS
  6. Multiple handguns (only) is nationwide, triggers form 3310.4. Submitted to ATF and local CLEO. Multiple semi-auto rifles (detachable magazine, caliber > .22) is only in the 4 southern border states (so far), triggers form 3310.12. Submitted to ATF National Tracing Center. These are the only two reports required beyond the 4473 itself. So far. - OS
  7. Dunno, usually at least 25% less than MSRP once supply stabilizes. Might eventually make my first foray into 1911 Land with this baby myself. I consolidated calibers long ago, and have never wanted to add .45 to the mix. An attractive and presumably reliable pedestrian 1911 9mm version like this one is pretty compelling. - OS
  8. $29, but only checks within state of TN. FBI check is $45 but checks nationwide. https://www.tn.gov/tbi/article/background-checks - OS
  9. Well, multiple handguns within 5 biz days from same FFL is still flagged and retained though. Never have known how an FFL would necessarily know if the purchases weren't at the same time though. Also, same with semi-auto rifles bigger than .22 in the southern border states. - OS
  10. What this law does is ensure no liability from the decision to NOT post the property. Up to date thread just below:
  11. No, it doesn't. Read up, just below your thread matter of fact:
  12. No, he hasn't died fortunately, just last time around from A Prairie Home Companion, after 42 years. Apparently he'll stay on as producer for a while as the new whippernapper takes over, but no way can it ever be anywhere near the same. Makes me feel rather older than usual, and since Garrison is older than me, guess he's feeling it too, sigh. At any rate, last time around for him Sat. at 6pm Eastern. You fans know where to find him on your NPR affiliate, and if you want to SEE it live too, just go to PrairieHome.org for the video stream link that will appear about 5pm. - OS
  13. You just can't be fully informed about the AR-15 if you haven't seen this authoritative vid: - OS
  14. My prob is "stuck" quotes. Depending on whether editing or just coming back to a post that I started a reply to but decided not to post, I'll get quotes I can't get rid of. Even if I delete what's in the post, leaves a blank quote field. Or it'll "remember" a response from another thread I didn't post. Or some combination of such. At any rate, I'll wind up with quotes I can't get rid of (except once in a while I can highlight one, select all, and delete - but doesn't work all the time). There's also the prob of trying to quote something from one page into a follow from another page. Even multiquoting, it doesn't bring the first one forward. In the previous version, could at least switch to the plain code version or whatever it was called and copy/paste it, but can't with this one. Possible it's just user error and I'm not grokking something about each prob, dunno. - OS
  15. New one on me. Thought the whole thing of the first 5 and then 8 year jockeying around of either/both was to sync them both to birth date. Of course, it didn't help that TNDOS has been for the last couple years, and STILL IS, according to website, jacking the time around to still meet the 5 year cycle, and not the new 8 year one. At any rate, the schizoid way the legislature has done the "battle of the licenses" over the last couple years has been a real SNAFUBAR, and has to wind up costing more than the eventual savings touted will realize for a long time, if ever. - OS
  16. It's not stated on TNDOS and I've never seen anyone confirm it one way or the other, but hard to believe they'd issue one till after if your conviction sentence was done (typically 11/29 jail/probation for the Class A Misdemeanor) since an existing permit is suspended for the same. But then again, that's not directly addressed in TCA and it's not an exact question on the HCP app either, so maybe it's just an ironic loophole for a new applicant. Which is not to definitely answer your question. Why dontcha ask Lisa (and only Lisa) at TNDOS and share here? - OS
  17. The site mentioned was just cribbing from another erroneous story at bearingarms.com. The gun web network is as bad about that as any other media.
  18. Well, I have no credentials to really opine, but I don't really see how liability due to either posting or due to not posting could be logically asserted, since either option is completely licit under state law, so not at all sure the first version would have withstood legal scrutiny. I just see the emergent version as a further "assurance" to those who allow carry, and I like it since I'm on that side of the issue. - OS
  19. If you can come up with any argument that hasn't already been presented, I'd be all ears. But it's always gonna be an emotional argument as much as a logical one, and as always, H.L. Mencken had it pegged. - OS
  20. Max, is that you? - OS
  21. Well, I dunno. If I had a biz and wanted to allow carry, it would be nice to know that if either of you guys shot somebody in there I wouldn't be liable for it. - OS edit: the more I think about it, the more I actually like it -- I'm inclined to agree with CZ9mm, that it might encourage more businesses to allow carry, as they know they wouldn't be liable for anything arising from that. And a biz that posts has no such assurance, at least under the written statutes.
  22. Nothing in TCA says the hospital would be culpable. However, that's how the statute began, to state exactly that. See my previous post regarding attorneys' opinions. That's exactly what this statute says. But I'm sure it's more to exclude biz from suits by the general public, not by the pistol packers. - OS
  23. Don't see how. Law only applies to places which do NOT ban carry as per 1359, and all hospitals do. Folks (with permit) can only have their heaters in their vehicles on posted properties (including employees). There's no "protection" involved with the statute at all, just whether one can sue or not after the fact. Clearly, can not sue an unposted property, maybe can sue a posted one, but if so, this statute doesn't change that one way or the other. - OS
  24. Yeah, but his point was that biz doesn't want to bar customers from carrying inside, only employees, so a 1359 sign isn't the solution, only company policy is. - OS
  25. My point was that there are probably plenty of folks who don't know that. Especially regarding car, as that just changed less than two years ago. - OS
