My Dad, a devout Christian who lived it better than most I have known, told me when I was quite young: "when a man touts his faith right off the bat to convince you of a business deal, if you've shaken his hand, count your fingers right afterwards." Then Obama is your man. - OS

No worries. Senior Moments actually begin about 30, it's just that you you whippersnappers won't admit it. - OS -
Well, I guess there's one source. Maybe. Very odd they don't mention the company name, seems to me. - OS

You really believe the gummit thinks it can achieve some socialist goal by killing millions of Americans without sparking mass armed resistance? You don't think at the least, that the 535 members of the House/Senate, who have homes and families out in the general populace, might not be just a tad nervous about doing that? - OS

What light bulbs are made in USA? I guess he meant the US "manufacturers" like GE, Slyvania, et all, whose factories are in China and Mexico? Of course, it costs money to retool those plants too, so I get that part of the point, but I don't know of any "incandescent bulbs made in this country" as per your comment. Or any other kind of light bulb. Do you? Who is this guy btw; I don't see a Dept. of Energy under Colorado's departments on their site? - OS

Okay okay, y'all...mainly had to stop and do something else, didn't have time, is all.... My take is that the whole concept of any kind of universal "martial" takeover in the USA is impossible because of simple logistics and supply and demand. First of all, as long as things are still kicking along short of total economic meltdown, even during a long gray Soviet type depression where at least most folks are still getting fed and watered, what's the point? What does martial law accomplish? What can a military junta really control in the US? It could only disrupt or stop the production of goods and services and transportation. You'd have to have a practically one on one relationship between guards and workers to keep the production flowing. Unless snuffing the majority of the population is the goal, I can see no real reason to want to control the society with a military force. Hell, the pols couldn't gain as much as they can legally steal now. Second, if outright EOTWAWKI happens, it's pretty obvious that nationwide martial rule just ain't happening. Since it's obvious that FEMA and every other fed agency combined can't even handle a regional crisis, just how are they going to mobilize the millions of city, county, and state LEOs and National Guard in this country to ride herd on 300,000 folks? Just assuming the premise that the majority of military/LEO actually would bear arms against their countrymen (almost certainly untenable - remember, the military and police are YOU), how does the fed support them (YOU)? The USD would be worthless, so money would be no incentive. Not even what gold is stashed would make a dent, assuming anybody cares about it until possibly years down the road anyway. Not only could the fed not feed the masses, it couldn't even feed its "army" for any longer than the gummit storehouses hold out -- and it's obvious they couldn't distribute it either. Nor could they pay or feed the Blue Helmets or other mercenary force from the outside. Any outside force they could somehow induce to control the citizenry would also simply take over the existing junta too, as their only incentive to "help" would be for conquest. It seems to me that if things get bad enough, the more likely scenario for a martial society would be the rise of a citizen militia, storming Washington ala the French Revolution. We'd like to think that would translate to a fresh start on sane US Constitutional rule, but the sad fact is that likely it would be a military type rule for awhile, if not period. The fact that this "army" began as you and me wouldn't necessarily make it any less militarily regimented by the time the last pol was hung on the steps of the Capitol. None of this is to say that the current gradual and continual slide to the left won't eventually make us essentially a socialist or even communist nation, but it can be done without (at least all at once) mass bloodshed. Death of a thousand small cuts to our freedoms, and certainly gun confiscation through attrition type laws will be necessary. But it will take another generation or two, and will be handled predominately with pens rather than government aimed ARs. I do believe in the likelihood of a Great Die Off, but it will be from the chaos of a financial meltdown, really the result of what I call Environmental Economics, the upside down pyramid of earth resources vs. population. And it can be just about as effective as any of the other dire scenarios folks postulate. But the Boys in Washington, nor their army, certainly aren't in control of things now and won't be much of a factor when it happens, and likely won't be a factor in the long aftermath. - OS

I don't know recall what opposite positions we have had in the past on this, as you just reiterated pretty much what I said in post 29. I'm all for "civil unions" as long as they give the same real world benefits in the realm of state and federal government that hetero marriage does now. It's just a type of contract that doesn't exist now that they would have to honor, since the federal government and most states don't currently recognize all marriages. - OS -
I don't know what steel is in the Peasant or Camillus. The Peasant comes with black smeared coating on upper side of blade to retard corrosion, figuring that the bottom side will get maintained with use. All steels have carbon of course. Chromium content is what makes them stainless. Different versions of low or no chromium steel rust at different rates, but they all certainly will oxidize (rust) without maintenance. Add moisture, or at worst salty moisture, and they rust faster. I've got a Mora that has rust spots and it's never been out of my office. Got a big oddball Mora that I use in the kitchen, also an Old Hickory, both are probably 1050-1095 range, have but force patina on them with mustard and later pure vinegar, both now quite dark, but still get some rust on them within a day or so if I don't dry them off after use. Yeah, you can get a patina over time on any non stainless knife, but bottom line is the average joe who EDCs something wants it to stay shiny, or black, with no tarnish whether maintained or not. - OS

You're guilty of Class A Misdemeanor that way. Better stick to revolver, with 5 or 6 in the chamber. - OS -
Those few LEOs doing the gun confiscations we know about during Katrina were quite lucky in who they chose; or chose because they knew they'd get no resistance. - OS

Didn't overturn law, from your article: "The spending bill doesn’t actually amend the 2007 law, but does prohibit the administration from spending any money to carry out the light bulb standards — which amounts to at least a temporary reprieve." Today's standards for incandescent bulbs are still on phase-out. New performance standards must be met. Really more of a semantic debate. Meant to add, most .22 semis will do the same. Browning Buckmark is only other one I've shot that has about as effective a trigger out of the box. Really makes a difference, even with a poor shot like me. - OS

That's the crux of the issue. What we call "marriage" (a religious/moral) term is already treated by the states and the fed as a "civil contract". Hence "marriage" affects many secular things in life. Social Security and survival bennies for "spouses", military bennies for same, various assistance programs, loans, inheritance, adoption, taxes, etc, too many to name. On both state and federal levels. It's only reasonable that I should be able to enter a "civil union" (a "life trust agreement" if you will) with any other member of the species, whether sex or progeny even enter into it. - OS -
You shouldda shot my Beretta NEOS yesterday. It will make you appreciate the MK trigger. - OS

Alterations of human genetics reason we're here now in our present form. Giant leaps at around 1,000,000, 50,000, and 10,000 years ago that just don't jibe with evolution, much too fast, overnight sea changes on the geological time table. Possibly incredibly lucky random mutation, possibly we wuz futzed with. - OS

Ya know, somebody ought to just make a list and make this a sticky. So just caught Mutants, on Sundance (I think, I have them all cept TMC). 2009 French flick (subtitles, but not too distracting, dialogue relatively minimize). REALLY good. Liked it better than [REC] or the US remake, can't think of the name of with Dexter's sister Quarantine Mutants (2009) - IMDb I agree with most of the more detailed reviews rather than the overall too low rating. - OS

Well, ya know, one real problem is that we should NOT be voting for anything higher than our Reps to the House. They pick the Senators, like the Constitution was written. And they should pick the Prez. The citizenry voting for President is not in Constitution, and is absurd. Consumes half the first term of any sitting President, determines his policy, etc. It's a national American Idol contest, with a man spending a billion dollars to get a $400K/year job. We should be in touch with our direct state and national reps, that's all. Hold their feet to the fire. They only have two years to do the will of the people, or they're out. Not THAT would "fundamentally change America". Back to something sane. - OS

Pretty damn wacky. Adultery is not against the law in any state, bigamy and incest are in most or all. Don't see how he can make such an illogical leap between those. And of course passing moral judgement or worse, supporting actual legislation against any sexual act between consenting adults is just pathetic. Seems he looks back fondly on the days when the Catholic Church basically functioned as a government agency. Maybe would have made a good Torquemada. - OS
