Santorum and his views on our privacy rights
Oh Shoot replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What I meant was, I'm agnostic, perfectly comfy that it's unknowable about whether the buck ultimately stops anywhere. The hedged hope within Deism just puts a slightly warmer glow on an otherwise coldly mathematical cosmos, and even ole OS has some of the human frailties of the rest of the herd. - OS -

Not at all. A Deist does not subscribe to whatever God any particular religion touts. Nor does a Deist even believe God has any truck with this little planet at all -- and certainly not the paltry acts of the fearful and egotistical bipeds who overpopulate it. BTW, I'm not a real Deist, myself -- I just lean that way a tad. - OS -
Yeah, but then we'd have the only politician in all of Texas that's dumber than Dubya for prez. Must be a prerequisite for governor out there. But hey, that may be what the people want. I guess he'd carry Texas for sure, though. - OS

New stainless 581 series Ranch w/ synthetic stock, 20 rd. mag, Ruger scope rings, AND tactical rail mount is 589.99 + 20 shipping from CDNN. Somebody like who I use for $30 (transfer/TICS), makes whole price $640 out the door. So I certainly wouldn't give 5 bills for an old one myself. Besides the improved barrel and integral scope mounts, the newer ones have some other improvements, like the battle sights. - OS

No, actually he won me over -- I am humbled in the face of such an overpowering intellectual argument presented with such grace and eloquence. - OS -

Not necessarily, but that's a poor site for an unbiased view of Church/State (or likely much else on there after a quick glance around) since it only exists to evangelize Christianity, and does it on every page. - OS -
Ups were damn near free in the 60's and 70's. Your choice of pharmaceutical dextroamphetamine, benzadrine, methamphetamine, whatever -- oxies, eskies, bennies, black beauties, California Turnarounds, crosses, pink hearts, ad infinitum. Street prices about the same as prescription, actually, which was cheap cheap cheap. UT had several "feel good" doctor feeds if you wanted to be legal. My personal fav was Eskatrol (combo of dextro to wire ya and prochlorperazine to keep yer feet on the ground). Probably wouldn't have finished college without them, what with having to work and party all the time in addition to those damn distractions of papers and midterms and finals and such. - OS

It's called Tri Ad lock. I have a Voyager that uses it, very very solid. - OS

Stainless? That would have been $220 out the door even not on sale, truly an incredible price to begin with. Quite good even for basic "blued" carbine, since tax+TICS is about 30 clams. - OS

Turn In Your Neighbor for Illegal Gun
Oh Shoot replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Look at some of what you just wrote. NJ's "illegal" gun problem wouldn't exist except for it's Draconian gun laws. Those "illegal guns" wouldn't be in most all the other states, including here. And if Christie wanted to really do well for Aitken, he would have pardoned him or pushed for overturn of sentence, not just commuted sentence. He remains a convicted felon. And above all, remember that his "crime" wouldn't even have been one in the rest of US states (possible exception of IL). I'll say it again, Christie has said that New Jersey's gun laws are "about right". Read up on them. If you think they are "about right", you need to support the Brady Bunch too. - OS -
Yes. If it's the 22" barrel, it's the "almost exclusive" model mentioned earlier in this thread. But whatever it is, since the basic "blued" (painted) ones with birch stock are $190 (on sale) and up, that's about as good as you'll do on any stainless model. - OS

Agree. Every .22 that Ruger makes should have extractor changed to Volquartsen or similar spec first thing. It's definitely the weakest link in a stock 10/22, too. Almost all FTF, FTE, stovepipes, whatever are at least partially extractor related, even when you don't initially suspect that. Actually, all their .22s will "extract" with no extractor in there at all (the blowback does it) but what the extractor really must do is hold the spent casing in precise position to be ejected off the post. And there ain't much tolerance between perfect and fail. Same with most any semi, of course, but with small .22 diff is even more pronounced, and Ruger's .22 extractors have a long history of probs -- their very angle just isn't optimal, even on the majority that do work. Many a frustrated owner has about given up chasing down probs only to have a Volquartsen extractor miraculously cure them. - OS

Road Rage involving Oak Ridge officers in Knoxville

Or not. DA can just forget about it. Happens all the time. They don't issue press notices on everything they don't prosecute. - OS -

Yes, especially childless single folks. Top of head: adoption, designation of SSI, military, and pension benefits after our death. Did they fix the income tax disparity between single and married filing jointly? I'm sure there are many more. - OS -
Last Man on Earth on TCM in a few min (1964). Never have gotten to see it before. Its the first version of Mathesons "I Am Legend" before Heston in Omega Man and Wil Smith. The hordes are vampire zombies instead of plain zombies, though. Kind of makes sense to change them to that, since in all three filmed versions they don't come out in the daytime, and we all know that normal zombies are good to go 24/7! Interestingly, Matheson wrote screenplay for Last Man on Earth from his own short story, but was unhappy with the flick, had his name changed on credits. But movie is still pretty highly rated, we'll see. - OS

I've come to like the various Sandvik steels, the old reliable 440c and Buck's 420HC, and also 8CR13MOV as great in-between and all around choices in folders. Corrosion resistant, edge holding quite acceptable, pert easy to redo sharp as bejesus, etc. - OS edit: oops, off topic again. Just shows how boring the original one was, I guess.

Just for perspective, dinosaurs are pretty recent too, only old compared to smart little apes walking upright. Earth: 4.5 billion years All recorded written human history: ~5,000 years Well, since it has never happened in any civilization in history, including here, yeah. Ain't happening. Death and taxes, like that. Nope. I stand as example. Except for the acknowledged Deists, including the feller who wrote the Declaration of Independence and Preamble to the Constitution. Also, if you think US Constitution (or criminal code) is modeled after Jewish scripture, you certainly need to bone up more on the Old Testament (as I have previously suggested to you). Has much more similarity to Islam than Christianity in regard to justice. - OS -
'Nooga tries to get something together at Prentice Cooper every once in a long while ... always an epic fail so far. Mav, I'm down there for a week every other month, I'll holler at ya, so you can meet your second TGOer -- then you won't want to meet any more. - OS

If you are married, or in many cases have ever even BEEN married, your and/or your spouse's money flow is to some degree dependent on the government being involved with it, and that's not going to disappear. - OS -
Not gun related, but another old area in Knoxville near me, most locals know where Hollywood Rd. is but don't notice some of the streets connecting: Hope, Cosby, Lamour, Autry, and Shirley (for Shirley Temple I'm sure). - OS

Yep, was touted as a cure for morphine addiction. Worked a treat for that. Did a paper on patent medicine in college. By the 1890's a huge numbers of folks were opiate dependent due to over the counter and mail order "medicine". One of the first efforts to reduce this were products to wean folks off the opium, codeine, and morphine, one was called "Dr. (Somebody's) Gradual Treatment for Opium Addiction. Laced with heroin hydrochloride. Said in big letters on bottle, "ORDER NEXT WEEK'S TREATMENT NOW". Even Bayer made it: - OS

I'd opine that it is, by far. Rape is a crime of violence, and hardly relevant to evolving sexual or marital mores, except perhaps in the quite limited scope of consensual underage "statutory rape". - OS -
