  2. It looks like you can in "go advanced", but only changes it in the post itself, not in the forum list view. Only mods can do it for ya. - OS
  3. Pretty good , but let's be fair: he was named Newton, after his biological father. His parents' marriage lasted only a matter of days, but plenty of time the nasty to work. And hey, without one important previous Newton, we would just float around because we wouldn't have gravity! - OS
  4. Assuming you qualified with handgun during training, this may help: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/13742-question-about-military-hangun-certifications.html edit: Oh, here's a old one that's just been revived, too: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/general-off-topic/35837-active-duty-military.html - OS
  5. "An applicant shall not be required to comply with the firing range and classroom hours requirements of this subsection (e) if the applicant submits proof to the department that within five (5) years from the date the application for a handgun carry permit is filed the applicant has: ... (4) Successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military." Others will have to tell you just what documentation they require. - OS
  6. Well, if TN considers you a resident, then I guess my previous post is correct -- lthough I don't know how Home of Record with military affects claimed state residency, so don't consider mine written in stone. - OS
  7. Ah, did not get that he was just stationed here. So he didn't have to get a TN DL either? I kinda thought when he mentioned that he was intending to change residency. 'Course, if you're not claiming TN residency, how does that affect buying handgun? Actually another question I've wondered, if you only have an on base address, does that suffice? - OS
  8. Need TN permit once you've been resident for 6 months. Until then you can carry on IN permit. It will only cost ya $50 renewal fee rather than the $115, but you have to take the course ($50-100). Handgun Carry Permit Application Requirements Buying handgun from FFL no prob, no carry permit or any other kind of permit required. You can also buy from an individual with no background check. - OS
  9. Yah, might raise an eyebrow if personal interaction with LEO, but unless that TN DL date was more than 6 months old, doubt it would ever come to anything. Then again, this might be a detail of the HCP laws that not just every LEO might know right off the bat. - OS
  10. Theoretically, concealed 4" or less is "legal", but they've somewhat unofficially classified all one hand opening knives as flipper knives and busting for it. Also, if pocket clip shows, it's no longer concealed. AG of NYC has also banned sales of all one handed openers, has been (I think) put on hold with suits. Read up a http://KnifeRights.org. Lots of discussion on NYC knife law also on BladeForums.com at: Knife Laws NYC laws are among the most frequent threads there. Apparently they are searching quite a bit on subways system now too. You certainly can't get into any of the mainstream attractions, like Statue of Liberty, Empire State Bldg., Ground Zero, museums, etc with ANY knife at all, they use metal detectors. - OS
  11. Well, TN doesn't require you to get TN HCP until 6 months of residency, as far as being able to use previous state's permit. I've never seen anything about a 90 period regarding the reciprocity renewal vs. full price, though. I'd say your out of state one probably still needs to be active to get the renewal price perk, though. ($50 vs $115). - OS
  12. Just 'cause you can't see em, doesn't mean they ain't here still. [cue Twilight Zone music] - OS
  13. Yep, and that's likely to become a significant sticking point once it permeates the brains of the geniuses on the hill, since AFAIK all the other states that allow "guns in parking lots" don't have a statute that makes carrying past a sign a criminal act. Then again, it may make perfect sense to lawmaker-think, to allow guns there by statute but allow employer to still ban the same guns via another statute. - OS
  14. I'll usually show at any of these; social calendar generally flexible. - OS
  15. Yeah, various disinformation in the thread. TICS is just a shell over NICS, so they can charge 10 clams. Of course the Fed data bases are run. FFLs must keep the forms for 20 years for the transactions that resulted in sale, 5 years for the ones that were denied. And most um...interesting, when FFL goes out of biz, the 4473's are given to the BATF. The 4473 of course, has all buyer info in there, including model and serial number of the firearm. I've never seen the "rules" on what the BATF is supposed to do or not do with the 4473s. - OS
  16. Well, I'll say it .. should Mitt croak, at least after Super Tuesday, the GOP will likely have to wind up drafting someone at a brokered convention, even if it takes weeks. But it won't be RP, although in a situation like that, whoever had the second most delegates would have quite a more powerful hand in determining the nominee, and the official plank. Probably a fiasco that would guarantee O the win, though. It's actually quite scary that so much of our "democratic" process is dependent on the live of one man at any given time. All the more reason we should not be voting for President. Nor Senators, btw, the way the Constitution intended. - OS
  17. Certainly he won't get the nomination, but he will also almost certainly attend the convention with whatever delegates he has won. He has said that realistically he can't see himself in the White House and his main goal at this point is to be able to influence the GOP platform. He might well be able to get a plank or two in there that wouldn't be without his being able to hold his delegates hostage; might make Mitt have to promise a thing or three he wouldn't have otherwise done without the RP impetus. - OS
  18. Meant to mention, it would also require private businesses to treat "civil union" folks the same as "married" folks now. This would affect insurance companies, loaning institutions, housing (married student housing on campuses that have that, agencies that only allow married couples under section 8 type stuff, etc etc), various other areas I haven't thought of. Point remains, NOTHING would change, just that all agencies, both governmental and private, would have to treat "civil union" couples same as "married couples" without discrimination. - OS
  19. Only that fed would be on the hook financially for things they aren't on the hook for now, like survivor bennies for SSI, military, etc. Lot of other things like eligibility for married housing on military base, spouse eligible for burial in military grave, etc. Probably lots of other things I haven't considered, but all of them would seem to be money related only. I see no complication at all. If a "civil union" carries same status as "marriage" does now, no other laws or procedures need to be changed. Everything stays the same, just that more folks are included under exactly same laws, procedures, and bureaucratic rules that already exist under state and federal agencies as regards currently married couples. - OS
  20. Note that it doesn't mention HCP in the statute, so either 1) its intent is that the gun may be in non-student adult's car in the only legal way the particular person may carry it, either unloaded for non-permit holder or loaded for permit holder or 2) unloaded for everyone since it's the only way a non-HCP holder may have it and HCP is not mentioned. Typically gray, and no AG opinion or case law that we know of. Yes, see next statute, 39-17-1310. Affirmative defense to carrying weapons on school property. It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under § 39-17-1309(a)-(d) that the person's behavior was in strict compliance with the requirements of one (1) of the following classifications: (4) A person entering the property for the sole purpose of delivering or picking up passengers and who does not remove, utilize or allow to be removed or utilized any weapon from the vehicle. - OS
  21. By "the state" you mean federal government or the individual states? So how is this any different than a simple "civil union" that would give the same rights and privileges as "marriage" does now, on both state and federal levels? (which would have to be enacted on federal level) - OS
  22. No, can't get it back, but was about the same. - OS
  23. Appropriate quote at least once a week: "The Soviet Union had a single, entrenched, systemically corrupt political party, which held a monopoly on power. The U.S. has two entrenched, systemically corrupt political parties, whose positions are often indistinguishable, and which together hold a monopoly on power. In either case, there is, or was, a single governing elite, but in the United States it organized itself into opposing teams to make its stranglehold on power seem more sportsmanlike." 24. Sure it does, but only made for Wal-Mart. - OS
