  1. By law, it must be posted to bar carry by permit holders. With size and wording correct. Is it? As far as we know, Knoxville has only park system that is not posted, but still is forbidden to carry (grandfathered ordinance). - OS
  2. TCA. Mentioned a good bit from time to time here. Enacted in 1994. "39-17-1322. Defenses. A person shall not be charged with or convicted of a violation under this part if the person possessed, displayed or employed a handgun in justifiable self-defense or in justifiable defense of another during the commission of a crime in which that person or the other person defended was a victim." "part" is 39-17-1301-63, the weapons law section. - OS
  3. "As they approached the camp, the official said, there was a firefight and that there were no U.S. casualties. U.S. Africa Command said that the nine Somali captors were all killed in the firefight." Minimum force to stop the threat, I'm sure. Great going, guys! - OS
  4. If you use your weapon in a good shoot, you're not to be charged with violation of any of the firearms statutes that led up to it. That sort of hints at ... well, you decide what it hints at. - OS
  5. Yeah, a grand total of 14 cases of slide cracks back in late 80's, most fired over 10,000 rounds. Only three cases I think of slide actually blowing off. Never totally nailed down, but seemed to be a short lived production prob with metallurgy process at the Italian plant. Even though the prob ceased, Beretta added a part to prevent slide from coming off during a catastrophic failure. - OS
  6. I was somewhat of an activist then, but drugs were dirt cheap, so the times were easier to live with. Though Watergate was disgraceful, not much worse than other presidents have done, just dumber to involve himself with an actual physical burglary like a street thug. However, I'd take Ole Milhaus over Obama in a heartbeat. Actually, I think Mitt is much like him in some regards, so I may sorta get that chance. - OS
  7. Guy totally full of disinformation, misinformation, hamartia, hubris and plain old bull pucky regarding the 92/M9. Other than that, he was right on. - OS
  8. Almost every point was how much more the GOVERNMENT needs to regulate, help, legislate, and of course SPEND. Didn't even touch on deficit, far as I noticed. - OS
  9. It's the State of the State of Obama. Actually not quite as overtly a campaign speech as expected, but not over yet. - OS
  10. Only on the few points they agree with. Watch Boehner every time they show that shot after a point -- tepid applause sometimes, half the time he looks like he'd rather be undergoing water boarding. They show McConnell now and then, he looks like an peptic ulcer model. - OS
  11. If you don't even get local ABC, NBC, CBS affiliates, means you don't get anything at all?
  12. Thank god, a rare block on the erosion of personal liberty in the US. Holder is in mourning, I'm sure. - OS
  13. What did GOA have to do with it, except have an opinion? They even write a "friend of the court" document? - OS
  14. Doesn't apply "Where transport and possession of a firearm on the premises of the employer is prohibited by state or federal law or regulation.." Seems to me simply posting the lot compliant with 1359 would suffice for that. - OS
  15. The country is right about center. The center is far left of where it used to be. We need better than Mitt, but we need Mitt because much of the center and somewhat left, disenchanted with O, will vote for him. So will most of the right, because we have no choice if we want to see O deposed. I won't say a true conservative could NOT win this election, but any that could ain't running. A true conservative has to be charming, Reaganesque, smooth the message with likeability. We don't have anyone like that right now. - OS
  16. Well, here's the deal. TCA states in 39-17-1307 that it is a defense to illegal possession "that a person who is not authorized to possess a handgun pursuant to § 39-17-1351 is transporting a rifle or shotgun in or on a privately-owned motor vehicle and the rifle or shotgun does not have ammunition in the chamber or cylinder, and no clip or magazine containing ammunition is inserted in the rifle or shotgun or is in close proximity to both the weapon and any person." Pretty well covers things, right? Well if that ain't enough, it's also reiterated in the next statute, 39-17-1308 that it is a defense to illegal possession if if the possession or carrying was: "(1) Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon" That pretty well covers you on foot. However, there is a very clumsy and I think accidental and unintended syntax in a definition in the preliminary section (Part Definitions) to the weapons statutes where "unloaded" is defined as: ""Unloaded" means the rifle, shotgun or handgun does not have ammunition in the chamber, cylinder, clip or magazine, and no clip or magazine is in the immediate vicinity of the weapon." So, see how clear as mud? This is characteristic of TN weapons laws. If the definition is actually written as to original intent, it would apply only for folks on foot. I think it's safe to say, however, that nobody is gonna bust you for having unloaded magazines near or in your firearm in a vehicle, as long as actual ammo is well separated. Hint: get your HCP, and you don't have to worry about this in a car, can have handguns loaded, can have rifles loaded (without one in chamber). However it still doesn't allow you walk around with a loaded rifle in public. Though I doubt having an empty mag in it or elsewhere on your person, with no actual ammo on you, would get you busted for illegal possession/carrying either. However, parading around with an AR in downtown Cleveland, you might could see disorderly conduct, creating fear and panic, or something, whatever it is we've got in that vein. - OS
  17. Not to worry, just a little drollery. Always an interesting read for anyone who hasn't. - OS
  18. You must go to some tough ranges. Even the Gestapo at TWRA in Knox Co. don't require that. I'm a mag freak, don't know I could handle having to load 'em all up on site. - OS
  19. He was on CNN with Blitzer. He went through the scanner a second time somewhat later after discussing the matter there, said he had exactly the same things on and carrying exact same things. Scanner didn't beep. Don't know if it was the same scanner or not. So he said that it was his opinion that the scanners are set to beep now and then as another type of spot check. Wolf said that they had talked to head of TSA who emphatically denied that was the case. So Rand said then that they must basically suck, so just how reliable are they in general? Went on to advocate for a frequent flyer type program, where folks could get a security clearance, said it was quite poor that we're 10 years into this and still don't have it. - OS
  20. Yup. If Newt does somehow get the nomination, history will look back on him pinning back John King's ears (and the liberal media in general) as The Moment it all turned around for him. We'll probably see keep Nice Newt, Grandfather Newt, Stoic Newt, Historian Newt, Belligerent Newt, etc. Guy is a Sybil -- I fully expect him to do some Howard Dean type thing at some point and then that will be The Moment he threw it all away. - OS
  21. GOP debate tonight, State of Obama Political Stump tomorrow night, GOP debate thur. night. And all the commentaries thereon. I'm sick of it. I wish to hell we didn't vote for president. Or senator. But how can you not watch a cat fight, or a snake swallowing a mouse? Same gruesome fascination. - OS
  22. Well, it's only been discussed on every gun board in America since it came out 23 years ago, but I guess there are always new folks who haven't seen it. - OS
  23. Good thought on a new wrinkle. But they could already be doing that now on all the transfers they come in from out of state. Sizeable volume of online bought shipments coming into TN FFLs. I've even done it myself. Maybe they could do it if they wanted, or maybe the system ain't up to it, either. Wouldn't know. - OS
  24. NM, I misread something I found. - OS
