It is my understanding that American jurisprudence places the burden of proof on the prosecution. Even in Chattanooga. - OS -
A boat on a lake gets you to the end of the lake. A boat on TN River gets you to the next dam. A little boat can be portaged, but can't carry much. - OS

In a word, computers. The state sent vast numbers of Chinese to be educated as engineers in other countries (probably still do, although they can now train them there) and then basically jump started "state controlled capitalism" in manufacturing. Once you have engineers, computer technology allows anyone to tool up for anything, if they have the bucks to buy the machines. Since China doesn't truck around with societal entitlements like here, they have the bucks. And can now manufacture the machines they used to have to import. And btw, the majority of Chinese still live in rotten conditions. A rising tide in China does not lift all boats. The "capitalism" of China is not in any sense shared as in western countries. - OS

I'd say the world is likely going the other direction. If anything, there are likely to be MORE countries than fewer, as existing borders break down due to overpopulation, financial ruin, ethnic and religious wars, and perhaps even simple things like water. Think former Soviet SSRs, Czechoslovakia and the rest of the Balkan region as recent examples. I expect to see some of the countries in the mid East divide into separate states over time, too. Hell, the US may not survive as the same single entity in the long run. And the long run may not be so long. With half the world not having a decent pot to piss in and most of the other half in obvious and steady decline, I don't think "one world" anything is very likely. - OS

The CM must not quite have the same recoil characteristics of the PM. 200 through the PM9 isn't objectionable at all. A big reason the Kahr has it all over many other small guns, like KT PF9, heck even KT and Ruger .380. - OS

The Israelis have a variety of methods that have proven to be effective -- many of them are based on profiling, which is a bad word in US. They just see it as logical, which of course it is. Much more human to human interaction there, too, rather than random sampling. - OS

Does it expand their hours if you have a hunting license or what? Knox Co. one is only open 4 days per week, 5 hours each day. For anybody. - OS

Question: So basically, all you fellers weren't getting enough REM (deep, dreaming state) sleep? Did you not ever seem to have dreams before you got the masks? Or is it not that simple, not all deep sleep is REM sleep? Or what? - OS

Ok, so now what? Three states, three different winners.
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, my only real point was not the validity of any given poll, or even polls in general, but if polling over a long period reveals a trend, valid or not, and that trend becomes widely known, it can affect voting. So far, again rightly or wrongly, the trend or at least perception of that trend, is that Mitt stands better chance than Newt against O and a certain percentage of folks will vote for Mitt in the primaries because of that. - OS -

Caucus much different than primary. Even the results of a caucus don't necessarily translate to actual delegate votes. - OS -
One of history's few events, like Pearl Harbor, 9/11) where most folks remember exactly where they first heard it happened. Can't remember which year of high school, but I was at a Powder Puff football game fund raiser thing we got out of classes for, and they announced it over the loud speaker. I also later saw Ruby shoot Oswald on live TV. - OS

HB 3499 (Faison)/SB (Beavers) - intent to go armed re-defined
Oh Shoot replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, then they shouldn't use "intent to go armed" as the basis. A term that isn't exactly already defined in the first place in TCA. Although in the case of firearms, it seems to be simply "loaded". They should simply say that a violation of 1359 by a permit holder does not also constitute a violation of 1307. Although I don't see any reason that a violation of 1359 would negate a violation of 1307 by a non-permit holder. - OS -

Yeah, you know that I know about that exchange. But he ain't a DA, and if it comes to it (I doubt it really has, contrary to his claims), I'd say case law oughtta put the quietus on that. - OS -

Folks, on other polls , admit that polls affect their votes. Polls seem to have meaning regarding the primaries. Most taken shortly before them are borne out. Debatable as to whether they also influence the vote to further skew toward winner or merely reflect the trend. If indeed they do influence the results, a widely disseminated poll based belief that Mitt has a better chance against O than Newt will certainly influence the primaries all the way through for the folks who want to see O deposed as goal number one. - OS -

Of course, we'll never know, but indications during his term show he was a political realist, understood importance of private biz determining economy, promoted lower taxes, etc. And his standing up to Russiaa on Bay of Pigs proved he was far from being an Obamaesque apologist regarding national defense. Plus, he captured the imagination and optimism of the national ethos. He was actually inspirational and stirring, like no other national leader since. Until, sort of, Obama, oops. Will always be debatable, but back then neither JFK nor the Democrat Party equaled socialism in any significant measure as today. JFK was above all a pragmatist and not an ideologue. And quite the golfer and cocksman, even with a bad back - OS

So far, most polls I've seen show O beating Newt by at least 10%. Some double digits. Romney vs O showing at roughly dead heat at worst. - OS -

Still makes no sense. A permit holder is clearly not violating 1307 carrying past a sign, only 1359. A non-permit holder would indeed be violating both. To equate with NYC law is ridiculous -- I mean, worst case, illegal possession/carry for non HCP holder, is only a Class A 'meanor, even with repeated violation. - OS -

So vote third party and help guarantee that Obama stacks the Supreme Court against 2A. A president is 4-8 years. A SCOTUS justice averages 20. - OS
