  1. Wow, never knew, quick search reveals that's a well known factoid, and I'm surprised I didn't know it. Have indeed caught a few gar in my life, but never of course kept them to eat. But it's good to know, 'cause in a SHTF situation, I'd be inclined to eat whatEVER I happened to be able to catch, eggs and all. - OS
  2. Ate fish eggs all my life from bass, bream, crappie, drum, catfish, whatever; also some various salt water species. Generally only when I was frying them up fresh, never messed with freezing them along with fillets though. I always found them just so so. Sometimes wondered how they'd be fixed like caviar. - OS edit: saw your "weirdest eating" addendum. This comes up once in a while. For me, I guess it was a chihuahua, snapping turtles, and several groundhogs. - OS
  3. I don't but everyone I've ever seen post says they are great. Main argument for ESEE vs Ontario of similar size seems to be sheath and lifetime warranty. I do have an Ontario RAT1 folder. A really really nice all around 4" folding knife. Taiwan though, not USA like their larger blades. - OS
  4. Unless they show up here, it's going to be a very slow conversation. Even if they should be as close as Alpha Centauri system, we talking 8 years between us saying "hello" and getting "we are fine, how are you" in return. - OS
  5. That's the ONLY thing I agree the fed should do is simply incorporate the first amendment so that the states had NO say in ownership or carry. Short of that, which won't happen, I don't want the fed setting ANY more precedents about what they control regarding firearms. Granting something is only a small step from banning something, once the precedent for jurisdiction is established. The only national actions I would support would be repeal of any and all federal firearms laws. - OS
  6. You go by the East Town one, what's it these days Knoxville Center, too? They seemed to always have Ruger stuff. Bought one of my Mini14s there. - OS
  7. I It's .27648625 per round after tax plus the ammo fee. Not to split hairs or anything. - OS
  8. Nix the damn colored fonts! - OS
  9. Well, we know very little about how observed objects with mass behave at near light speed, and certainly nothing about their perception of that. The Large Hadron Collider is bombarding particles at almost light speed, and as little as I understand it, seems that the mathematics that even try to describe the results aren't widely agreed upon yet. Likely we'll find that the most essential particles we can observe, or even control to a certain extent, will behave differently than more aggregate material with higher masses, should we ever be able to propel them at those speeds. Ultimately, of course, a biological entity would have to be propelled to near light speed to measure actual physiological behavior (does it really almost cease to age, etc), and beyond that, a human brain would have to travel that way to describe how it felt about the time duration! Space travel is one of the few scientific areas in which homo sapiens has simply not made quantum technological leaps, and I'm not really sure we ever will, in the context of exploring space in the relatively real time sense we have the earth. We've got about 4 billion years left to figure it out (or no time at all depending on the vagaries of space or geology or nukes or disease or....) -- could be our only chance to propagate our seed elsewhere will be to send out generational colonies on giant interstellar craft, whose destinies would never be known. Maybe start with convicted lifer convicts, an educated crap shoot hoping some will find their own Australia. Or volunteers, probably find enough fringe loons who believe the whole shebang here is hopeless anyway. Hey, maybe I should volunteer! Then again, might be kinder over all to not infect the cosmos any further with this human virus thing. - OS
  10. Garufa and I were just talking about this yesterday. I can see using stripper clips in fixed magwell guns like SKS, Garand, whatever. If they're already on them, makes sense in AR/AK, too. But can't see any gain in utility reloading them for mag fed guns unless you were having to do mag reloads under fire. Then again, high stress ain't real conducive to getting that guide spoon out and into place either, would seem to me. Seems to take me just as long to load the clips then load the mags as to just load the mags, but then I'm a mag freak and generally show up at range with all I'm gonna shoot already loaded up, so I don't need to save time just at that one venue either. - OS
  11. Yup. The basic wood stocked carbine is exactly the same gun no matter where you buy it. Of course, we've settled that all the ammo at WalMart is Chinese made by 9 year old slaves in sweatshops, so you might want to buy that elsewhere. - OS
  12. Yeah, that's the "x 10". I haven't run into the old 6 box limit anywhere in the last year and a half or so. I'd say the clerk was dead wrong about the policy nowadays; unheard of at a Wally's I know. - OS
  13. I'll just comment on the ones I own: The two Bushmen are great values, though I like the Bowie model better: Not nearly as thick as the Condor, but hard to destroy, impressive tests online -- has obvious plus of being able to use as spear; carry a wood screw to completely anchor a whittled shaft through small hole in the end. The accessory pocket is cool. The GI Tanto is another inexpensive option, handle scales easily remove for lashing as spear, too. Practically indestructible also: They're making it with Secure X sheath now also: The Condor's are all exceptional value, tough as nails looking at all the online tests (haven't personally abused one yet). I have the Rodan, Varan, and Kumunga. The short Rodan may well be the overall most utile of the three though, compares to Becker Campanion in size. May be a bit rough around the edges as for fit and finish, not a consideration at all if it's for use and not show. The lanyard hole is poorly placed in my opinion, needs to be further back, your hand covers it on all three models.\ Rodan: The three Condors have quite big grips in circumference, small hands may not love, and they're not super tactile either. The leather sheaths are very very nice indeed. The two larger models swivel out of the way for easier sitting. Varan: Kumunga: - OS
  14. If you want to see more pix of SRM/Enlan/Navy/Ganzo, just look at the Chinese eBay vendors, even if you don't buy there ... many of them have excellent detailed pix. - OS
  15. Daryl did mention it when he was going to drive the kid away and drop him, something about "wish I knew where my gun went" or something similar. - OS
  16. Wow. I bought 4 boxes at the lower price over 4 day period in 'Nooga, at the Gunbarrel Road Wally. Aha! just to be totally anal, I actually found one of the receipts in my paper recycling box, just to prove to myself I wasn't hallucinating! UPC for that is 2946506070 (on box) at $34.97. - OS
  17. Yeah, I don't even know if that definition was what they intended; could have even left out the word "loaded" in front of "clip or magazine" for all I know. Pretty safe to say that you're not going to get rousted for having unloaded mags with your unloaded guns, as long as ammo is well separated. The more pertinent real world parameters are in the actual unlawful carry statutes, not the section with definitions. Abide by those, and you'll be okay. - OS
  18. Tucked shirt is tough. Lots of folks claim this or that tuck holster is great for concealed carry. But shirt has to be bloused just right, shirt tails don't stay perfectly tucked with movement, etc. And certain movements, like bending over, often make a heater stick out like sore thumb to anyone aware enough to see it. An untucked polo/golf shirt can cover very well, though, as long as it's not overly snug. I'd suggest pocket carry with the small gun, easy peasy. Or you could bump up to slightly larger, like Kahr PM/CM or similar size. But if it's mission critical covert at NPE (non permissive environment), you won't beat pocket carry, and even then, tight pants don't cut it. - OS
  19. Really sad thing is that a brand new Marlin .357 is only about $700 MSRP and maybe $550 through a non gouging dealer. Prob is that it has become such a popular rifle that dealers rarely get them, so street price has bumped way up. I actually got one at Wally's couple years ago for $485, but that was a rare find. - OS
  20. Don't be so mean, we always speak highly of you. - OS
  21. Yeah, that's some short guy in pic, not me. I do miss carrying the XD subbie, but the Kahr in the ole pocket has been the mainstay for going on 2 years now. - OS
  22. Ah, Lordie ... I would never have made the connection. - OS
  23. Wow, Himalayan salt that claims to LOWER blood pressure. That's some kind of miracle Yeti stuff for sure! - OS
  24. OpSec wise, a still after The Fall might attract the same unwanted olfactory attention from citizen zombies as it does now from revenooers, at least till people stop eating each other and whatnot. - OS
  25. I knew I shouldn't have joined a club that would have me as a member.
