  1. Dude, you stippled your Glock? !! What are you, some kind of dumb tn inbreeding baptist moron or something? !! - OS
  2. Very nice feller. Had a bunch of calls he said, so had no choice but to check it out. Just wanted to see safe area was used to shoot and all. Earlier however, a young neighbor also came over the rise to our left. Soon as I heard snatches of "common courtesy", "2 year old" ", and "high powered rifles", knew where HE was coming from. Dubaholic handled it very well, politely but firmly, "perfectly legal" and such. Good place to shoot, plenty of room, but obviously surrounded by nouveau wimpeaux these days. My opinion was to start shooting something there every two weeks or so, wouldn't take long for "somebody's shooting LOTS of GUNS down there!" to evolve to "well, that's just them shooting guns down there again". - OS
  3. Thanks for that, seems to be a pretty logical postulation of cause; must admit I feel chagrined for not thinking of it. - OS
  4. Z90 and I were just talking about these today at a shoot together. I've got an older HR 9 shot, the 922, rod and cylinder have to come all the way out of mine, though it does have the star ejection (you use rod to stick in other end of cylinder once it's out). Anyway, no probs with spent cases, come out pretty easily. Some you can just shake out, sometimes have to use the rod, but with no real force at all. If there's really no buildup of anything in those cylinders, only thing I can think is that the machining must have been a few microns off during certain spells of those models' runs. Though I don't know what would be involved to mill them out just a scootch. Mine shoots a bit high and left, but barrel seems aligned. My timing pawl (or whatever that giz is called) must be worn slightly out of spec though, as I get just a tad of discernible blow back now and then. But I don't see any buildup at chamber or on butt of cylinder after shooting, kind of mysterious. Probably like you already have, Benton, I did a few Googles to see if could find anything about the prob, but came up with zilch. Found one mention that guy had sticking casings, but only after firing enough to get it dirty. - OS
  5. Post 'em here, bro. If you don't know how, PM me for my email and you can send 'em to me and I'll do it. Ian, thanks so much for your efforts on this. A TGO group shoot is never a total success until the cop shows up, so it definitely qualifies as a winner! - OS
  6. We would probably both be surprised what we support on various campuses across the US with our tax money. Georgetown is private, and is Catholic supported. Which is why she was brought into the fray by Obama in light of the brouhaha he already stepped in. But private universities get federal funding also, and I'd wager Georgetown gets a good pop, being where it is. - OS
  7. Yeah, AFAIK, she says the university itself should provide the free contraception. - OS
  8. dang, double tap, how'd I do that?
  9. Well, the university itself doesn't, but they get a group rate for students from a carrier. It's not free, if that's what you're getting at. UT does, just for example, through Aetna, so I guess most offer something similar: http://studenthealth...u/insurance.php edit: Something interesting there I didn't know: all international students are required to have health insurance, and they add it to tuition fees. - OS
  10. Get a couple of the Ruger 25 round mags once she gets bored with just 10 at a time. Or you do. Really, just the Ruger ones, now that they finally decided to make them - they're aces. - OS
  11. "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have." - Gerald Ford "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground." - Thomas Jefferson
  12. Conservation effort totally unaffected. The eagle was taken off endangered list 17 years ago and off the threatened list 5 years ago. For all I know, there may be more eagles than Arapaho. I said the symbolism is troubling, like pissing on a flag or something, but not the environmental aspect. It bothers me more about the many whales various tribes are allowed to harvest each year, but can sort of understand that too I guess. - OS
  13. Let's not overblow the actual impact - one tribe, two eagles, one time permit. I agree the symbolic implications are troubling. - OS
  14. Note: Google maps translates this to 3737 Big Springs Rd Friendsville, TN 37737
  15. They can work -- within striking distance of the snake! - OS
  16. By "discreet" I mean I have to undress to swim/work out. It's not posted, but has no weapons policy. So IWB would be problematic in the locker room. I also walk 8 miles round trip to do it, so to disarm completely would mean I'm heaterless for a good long while, during the time I might most need one! My five knives wouldn't get a joyful response either, depending on who might see any. - OS
  17. 4 - Clerks are idiots. I knew Noah, and get asked once in a while. - OS
  18. Well, they just opted out of the new park carry statute, like many cities and counties in TN. Still have to post, which I thought was the case. Knoxville relies on existing grandfathered city ordinance. Cities/counties can't enact ANY gun laws after the 4/8/86 cutoff. - OS
  19. Good deal. I guess I have become sort of the blue light special blade advocate here. - OS
  20. Tell me more. First time I've heard that about Nashville. Ever. Thought Knoxville was only one. - OS
  21. Well, it's Wally's muddled attempt to comply with muddled federal law. I think the register prompts them to ask on any ammo, some do, some just punch it for whatever. - OS
  22. Stellar Rigs kydex. Kahr has started selling them off its website at same price as the maker last time I compared. I prefer to carry my XD 9 subbie IWB and I actually can most of the time, it's just that I need to be more discreet 2 or 3 days a week, so have slipped into just the Kahr 'cause I'm such a creature of habit with my daily load out. - OS
  23. Mea culpa for the misplaced caliber sarcasm ... has become automatic to a fault I guess. - OS
  24. De Tocqueville's perhaps most famous quote looms ever and ever more visionary: "The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
  25. Sort of. VT has an endowment of $ 600.6 million. That pretty much all comes from donors and grants, not the taxpayer. Something like 75 colleges/universities have over $1 billion. Yale has over $19 billion! So the previous settlements and current awards are less than chump change. Even so, looks like the state may appeal, as seems now that it's gone this far they're fighting for the "truth" as they see it as much as the families are, not the money. Certainly the families are, since apparently they can't get but 100K and could have settled for much more as the other families did, without going to trial. - OS
