To repeat, we can't Post New Topic, because it's blank. It seems to be permissions setting. Do you have non-moderator log in capability? - OS

I'm sure there are still small towns here and there where you can still do it, assuming you're known there. Just a lot fewer of them. I too grew up when half the pickup trucks in the county had a rifle or shottie in the window, even in high school parking lot. Even in college at UT (late 60's), I had a .22 pistol in dorm, couple other guys had guns too, we just never thought anything about it, used to shoot rats at night at a dump in downtown Knoxville!. RA knew about them, he was grad student in Nat Guard, had a Garand in his room. I guess it was against the "rules" then, but dunno when actual laws were passed and so forth. - OS

Can't, near as I can tell. Only "Want to Buy" is still live in the old Trading Post and there's not a GiveAway in new classifieds period.

This. It's the only good reason for rifled shotgun barrels. Depending on distance and size shot, it's actually possible to completely encircle your target with regular shot out of rifled barrel, leaving center area virtually or completely untouched. Rifled slugs out of rifled barrel confuses everything, double whammy weird mojo. - OS

Just tried again in test forum, no soap. Poll dialogue goes away after you hit "finish" which leaves blank post, and does not allow that to be submitted because it is a blank post. Perhaps only Mods with the god-like permissions can do it?

Mine has changed off and on over the years, I used to jot them down. My last notations I can find show three different ones in last year and a half. But I think it's more due to service disruptions, if you stay disconnected with modem for several hours now and then, you may get a different one. If modem stays on line 24/7 with no disruptions, probably keep same one indefinitely. - OS

Never heard of it either. My guess is you show for court, tell the story, and the judge drops it. But I'm not a lawyer. As far as possible max penalty, a Class C 'meander in TN is max fine of $50.00 and/or max 30 days. I'd say the chances of jail are right about zero unless you cuss the judge or something. - OS

Pointers and lessons learned when starting to carry.

Yah, I don't know why armchair gun lore doesn't claim that will automatically necessitate a hip replacement. I'm mostly pocket carrying these days, so I'm sure a fall on that side will cause my femur to be broken in half. - OS -
Everybody tells me how important it is to vote....

Even as much as a rabid contemporary historian (news junkie) as I am, if Hussein wins re-election, I may well just have to zen my way into a different zone and give all of it up. Just don't know if my psyche can continue to bear up. Somebody just let me know when the last ditch offensive starts. - OS -
Anyone ever wrongfully denied on for purchase?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, okay not being legal to purchase a handgun is grounds for HCP revocation or suspension, so I'll rescind my previous statement and give you that one. If indeed TNDOS is alerted at same time as bench warrant is issued, guess that could trigger it. Then again, if you don't pay a traffic fine or show up to contest it, I'd opine you aren't responsible enough to be carrying a heater either, so ultimately I guess I still don't see your point as to why this is unjust or something. - OS -

I was using IWB -- wore it out and about a few days, around the house for a few. I just didn't find it all that comfy, but a vertical gun sure does hide there pretty well in that hollow of your back, and I'm quite particular about concealment. An upright IWB like this hides very well. You have to decide which way you want to draw it, and I found this oriented like this pic was best for me (right handed), so it's really a left handed holster if wearing it 7 to 11 oclock. I used a cheapo left hander to try out after finding that a right handed IWB (grip pointed other way from one in pic) really took quite the contortion to get to. If concealment isn't an issue, this type OWB model is pretty popular, but would need a jacket to cover it if not wanting to just open carry: Also, though, it's hard to get my wrist to turn to grab it this way. I saw some guy claiming to use the left handed version upside down, but retention might be pretty iffy. All in all though, came down to comfort, so I just do IWB about 4:30. Although due to needing perfect concealment few days a week now, I just carry a Kahr in the pocket mostly over last 2 years. If you can believe various forums, there are any number of people who carry with some form of SOB all the time, though, so certainly not saying it wouldn't suit you of course; I believe the falling on it thing to be an insignificant factor -- I've done some mighty pratfalls in my days on ice, oil and whatnot, and seems physics dictates that my tush meets the ground first. - OS -
Quite simple: 39-17-1307: "A person commits an offense who carries with the intent to go armed a firearm, a knife with a blade length exceeding four inches (4''), or a club." There are various exceptions and defenses, but none cover a loaded long gun in general public. - OS

Still not grounds. The reasons HCP can be revoked or suspended are all listed in 39-17-1352. - OS -

I see you've already gotten a couple of the "if you fall you'll crush every vertebra from coccyx to skull" responses. It must be true 'cause "everybody" says it -- everyone that is except anyone who has ever actually done it. I experimented with it, and there's no doubt that SOB carry may compromise sitting upright with good posture in a chair or while driving though. - OS -

Traffic ticket is not grounds for HCP revocation -- what is your point? - OS -
Well, it's not your private property. Seriously, though, some folks think the "one's place of work" exception means anywhere you work, some think it means owner only. Ongoing debate on that one. Don't know the definitive answer, probably because there's no case law. Yeah, and another reason I grabbed the one when I could; can't find one when you're looking for it, especially in the mag config you may want. Didn't know there was an updated model, I'll check it out... - OS

Yeah, that's only drawback; have a fold up rifle that will fit in a briefcase or backpack, but can't legally carry it around, so what's the real point? I guess you can in some states, but not too many. There was a thread on WarriorTalk some time back, bunch of folks claiming they took their Sub2000 around with them "everywhere", I asked what states were they in where that was legal, crickets, killed thread. So, at least in TN, pretty handy for a vehicle rifle I guess, but that's about it. Prob with that is, I'm not gonna risk having a gun stolen out of my vehicle -- even if it's not a real expensive item like the Sub2000, it's not easily replaced either, not to mention being out the bucks. - OS

Just tried it in test forum. Same results as you, couldn't do it.

Except for legally hunting, where else in TN can you carry a loaded rifle? Carry in state parks same as carry anywhere else in TN, except they can't post them (or buildings within them, unlike national parks). - OS

You realize bill was discussed this session to do this, right? Provision was in there to raise HCP cost to cover lost state 4473 checks. - OS -
Only one ever at #2, only 4th one ever in Masters history, and the only one ever televised. He threw ball into crowd before he thought about it, then later, the fan gives it back to him! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1GbE33IwNw - OS

Actually, a 40 yard hook. A righthander would have had to slice it. It was one of the miracle shots like Phil hits now and then, or like Tiger used to regularly. - OS
