Unconfirmed Death of TGO Contributor
Oh Shoot replied to Westwindmike's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wow, didn't know him personally, but that's really sad. It's on Rob Pincus's FB page, so guess it's right. Wouldn't have guessed diabetes, maybe Type 1 had most of his life or something? His vids were full of win, the ones I saw, seemed very practical sort. My condolences out to loved ones and friends. - OS -
Beretta is efficient and has soul. Glock is just efficient. - OS

That's called an "additional profit center", sans Vaseline. - OS

I find that above 10 lbs and too big for flat rate, UPS beats USPS by at least 10%. Get on up above 20 lbs or so (again, too big for flat rate) and FedEx Ground becomes cheapest of all. I admit I'm getting a bit better than counter price with eBay Seller's account and UPS and USPS. - OS

Yeah, in Scotland years ago, about half the folks I met, no probs understanding them (except for different names of objects and whatnot), but the other half, wasn't like any form of English at all. Sort of the diff between "educated London Briitish" and blue collar Yorkshire (which also was largely a foreign language to my ear). Oddly, even those damn tough to get folks seemed to understand me better both in North England and Scotland than I did them. - OS

Yup, even if they aren't trying to make shipping a profit center, most just aren't set up for USPS shipping option on their systems. You can send under 13 oz for $3.65 max + .18 track. Smallest flat rate Priority box is 5.15 btw. Envelope is 4.90. All this talk of letting UPS/FedEx take over USPS: right now at at least, they can't touch the 13 oz and under prices of USPS, or any of the flat rate Priority prices if they are heavily loaded. Matter of fact, you really have to get up in the 10lb range and above before UPS or FedEx Ground become better deals. - OS

He could still be there anytime he likes, since he'd be President of the Senate. Gets to cast any tie breaking vote, too. That might be worth more than a little something if Senate becomes 50/50! - OS

I know it's tight going to school and all, but surely not such that $120 is a "small fortune"? - OS

Hiking/Camping Fixed Blade <$40 - Ideas?
Oh Shoot replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
(Not my pics following) Picked up a Robust recently. Very nice. Also, what Ragnar seems to call a "Sport" but everybody else calls a "Scout". They come in several colors, including black. Also got one that's right at 6" long blade .. very nice; can't even find a pic of it ... I'll try to do a review on some of these soon. Oh yeah, and a couple of Mora fillet knives, too. - OS -
Hell, people with carry permits aren't allowed to defend themselves in some of the most dangerous places they frequent ("gun free zones"). But yes,. I'm ashamed of TN in these regards, especially in the case of 18-20 year olds. - OS

Not by itself of course. But black voting block is always 90+% Dem anyway, it's a given in each election. The real quandary wouldn't arise unless someone like West were running on GOP ticket. Maybe veep wouldn't be enough to sway a significant %, I dunno. Surely a black GOP presidential candidate would (if not a black running as Dem also)? - OS

Help Me Find The Perfect Multitool

You talking about the Kershaw Select Fire? That claw area is not really touted as bottle opener but it might work ... I don't have one to try it on so can't say. - OS -
American based company publicly traded on New York Stock Exchange, American employees selling American made guns to Americans. Really is quite distasteful. - OS

The gray would probably come into play when a given LEO or ranger who may not know this lesser visited part of the carry statutes. Btw, you can't carry in a state park or WMA without a HCP, unless legally hunting or in designated shooting range area. Might want to read 39-17-1311. This is a separate charge from unlawful carry in 1307. TVA and Army Corps of Engineers properties are very gray indeed (TN property managed by ACOE or TVA federal land, etc), seems everyone gets by with a permit if noticed, but without one may be another matter. Come to think of it, if not hunting or have HCP, there's not a helluva lotta places the defenses in 1308 may actually avail you considering the scope of 1311. It's premise is: "It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, with the intent to go armed, any weapon prohibited by § 39-17-1302(a), not used solely for instructional, display or sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in or on the grounds of any public park, playground, civic center or other building facility, area or property owned, used or operated by any municipal, county or state government, or instrumentality thereof, for recreational purposes." So that leaves National areas... don't know about National Recreation Areas or Forests, but you can't carry in GSMNP in TN without a permit. You you may well find that even though you wouldn't ultimately be charged with unlawful carry, you could be hit with an offense of carrying in these areas, and it's actually same or worse penalty as unlawful carry too (Class A Misdemeanor as opposed to possible Class C, B, or A). TN does not really deserve the "Patron State of Shooin' Stuff" moniker that many think it does. It's actually a pretty uptight place to try to tote guns around in, especially for those who for various reasons can't pay for the privilege to do it. - OS

Yeah, they should exempt you from deadly force statutes if you ain't carrying a caliber that starts with 4. - OS

I'm afraid that's exactly the wrong answer, legally. Any interstate personal transaction, even giveaway, must be transferred via FFL and 4473 to the recipient in his home state. That IS the law. The only exceptions are inheritance and loaning/renting. You may buy a long gun from an FFL in another state (if he agrees to) but cannot buy a handgun except through a FFL in your own state. Only purely legal way to do this for you in NC is to take your gun over there and transfer it to him via NC FFL. His gun would need to get over the line to a TN FFL for transfer to you. Or vice versa, he comes over here first with his gun. - OS

I've always open carried a pistol, but whipped out a knife for the actual dispatching of the baddie. That last look of surprise is just priceless. Successful defense has always been, "well judge, I was using the least force possible -- I could have shot him ya know!" - OS (y'all believe me, right?)

Try using Paste As Plain Text option .. you may have run into some weird formatting incompatibility

Printer technology…or why does my printer use so much ink?
Oh Shoot replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
It's simply the way the profit model works on printers. For the most part the device is cheap for its capabilities, the supplies over time provide the real profit. I'm still using a ten or twelve year old HP inkjet, was less than $200 then. Probably have spent 10 times or more than that on carts. Still been quite the bargain all in all. - OS
