Chief Justice Roberts Is A Genius? Your thoughts?
Oh Shoot replied to Steelharp's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I remain 50/50 on Robert's decision. With all the reading and commentary I've taken in, still can't honestly can't say exactly how I feel about it, what overall short term (as in coming election) or long term effects (congressional limitations) it will have, etc. Of course, I was immediately disheartened by it, but perhaps the jury will really be out for some time, and it could indeed turn out to be a most fortuitous interpretational precedent. Of course on one hand, it suggests that there is nothing the government can't tax; on the other hand, it does indeed have to BE a tax and not a simple mandate allowed by "commerce". Enacting taxes with their names attached to them is one of the few things that the bastards on The Hill are actually loath to do. I keep wondering about the depth of the comments to the effect that "while everyone else is playing checkers or poker, Roberts is playing chess." Just another most interesting commentary here: http://www.macon.com/2012/06/29/2077859/john-roberts-chess-game.html - OS -
Where do we delete classified postings?
Oh Shoot replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in Feedback and Support
Were never able to delete them, only close them. Why should folks need to delete them? Can't delete any other thread on TGO. Actually rather a valuable resource to the community to leave them in place, get an idea of pricing over time; then again seller often edits that out. - OS -
Without going expensive custom, top of my head: USA Companies: (most models made here, but not all): Becker Ka-Bar Buck, especially famous classic 119 Ontario Non-USA: Condor (El Salvador) Cold Steel (various) - OS

I'm out of town and don't have my 92FS with me, but that's how I remember mine working. So assuming it is, there's no doubt that a 92/M9 would be MUCH easier to pull this trick with any other semi with which I'm familiar. Grab slide pointed at you with left hand, press release plunger with forefinger, pull release forward on other side with thumb, slide comes right off. You don't even have to pull on slide, will just spring forward on its own soon as release is toggled. Could a world class ninja do it quicker than a person could squeeze a trigger? Probably not. But could someone do it if the shooter hesitates? Don't see why not, could be done in literately about a second, certainly under two. - OS

Thought it was quite high. This guy must have made quite a scene or something to get slammed that hard; no other charges like resisting or assault on officer or something? - OS

Well, you cite an example, but don't see how they considered it illegal for an FFL to personally place a firearm in another FFL's hands for transfer rather than ship it to him for same. It's not illegal for a private individual to carry a firearm into another state to a FFL to transfer to a resident of that state either. As a matter of fact, that shop (forgot name -- something "distributors"?) in Georgia next to Chattanooga does this routinely; they personally carry over the state line to deliver the gun to TN pawn shop for transfer while you wait. And that's a pretty big volume as I understand it, dealing with lots of police tradeins and special LEO pricing, very upfront. Seems to me the only legally iffy part of Dole's transaction comes down to question of simple fraud, ie misrepresenting conditions and total cost of the original sale. - OS

Irony there: UT Police patrols off campus housing where I used to live (but firearms were not prohibited in residence, at least was not in the lease rules). However, it's probably best to err on side of caution, and I'm even modifying my opinion. Been a while since I read 39-17-1309 and forgot just how wide ranging the prohibition is: "...any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution." - OS

Is that 'bout normal bond for a Class A 'meanor, like DUI? - OS

Yeah, it's a separate corporation in some form or other. And though it's a "teaching and research" hospital I rather doubt it could be classed a "school" in the sense of the carry statute; any more than regional offices of county agricultural agents, MTAS, CTAS, other extended agencies of UT would be considered a "school". But don't rely on my opinion on it -- ultimately it's a serious consideration if it were to be found classed as school, felony as opposed to $500 fine. - OS edit: see post 12 -- I decided to disagree with myself.

Four Tennessee men face charges in gun sales
Oh Shoot replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Point is, though, that ATF doesn't have to prove you made a profit, only show by preponderance of evidence that you intended to. On even one gun. The ATF is shown to care about conviction rate, so they prosecute the ones they think they'll win. Somebody turning 10 guns a month or more mostly year round would seem to be right in the radar range if they want to make the effort, would seem to me. Maybe even five. - OS -

You're missing the premise. Google Shopping function. Pretty significant if looking for real time comparison pricing. Longer, main thread here: http://www.tngunowne...nity-on-1-july/ - OS -
I I'd say the Rat 1 will stand up to it all just fine. As long as you have a stone or rod that will fit in the serration grooves to resharpen that part. It appears to have fairly large distinct serrations, none of those pesky "micro in-between" ones like Cold Steel uses. The un-grooved side of the serrated area can just be touched up with regular sharpener as you do rest of non-serrated blade area. AUS8 is pretty good choice in stainless for brutal work as edge will generally dull by micro fold over that can be easily re-sharpened, but isn't overly prone to chipping, which is a bit of an Achilles heel of some higher end stainless steels if used for down and dirty stuff. 'Course, ya shouldn't do any lateral prying, especially with any kind of stainless, which is gonna be more brittle than tool steels. - OS

I wear untucked polo style shirts almost exclusively, so necker always accessed from bottom of shirt -- grip down neck carry that way is one of the few truly effective ambidextrous locations. - OS

Yep, very definitely an Eskimo ulu, if you had to classify it. They use them for flensing, skinning, filleting, food chopping/dicing. One interesting use for the bigger ones is to cut out blocks of snow for igloos, even. Think I'll stay with something a little more pointy, though, thanks, Cap... - OS

Petition Jimmy Cheek's (UT Chancellor) Pay Raise
Oh Shoot replied to wewoapsiak's topic in General Chat
Yeah, but for the most part, athletics is just a separate biz, and generates its own revenue. And UTK would have to fold without it, as half the endowments the ejucashion parts receive wouldn't be there without the influence of the semi-pro hired thugs in Neyland and Thompson-Boling. - OS -
My experience was all personal, not chemistry courses, though I was damn handy with a PDR. In the 60's and 70's, ups were damn near free. Certainly each genre had it's own characteristics, dextroamphetamine, biphetamine, benzedrine, methamphetamine. Would get the generally inferior Ritalin and Adderall too now and then. But only the meth that started as meth behaved like meth. Though I admit to being at least somewhat dependent on uppers off and on during these years, I'd never have been a meth freak though; Eskatrol (dextro w/ added trank) was my overall fav, with the similar Dexamyl as a close second and could get them both legally and underground. Matter of fact, meth was never the fav upper for anyone I ever knew. But then we were connoisseurs, and could pick and choose. Never really heard much about folks injecting speed of any kind around here back then -- that was usually only in realm of opiates/cocaine. It's been shown that opiate addicts with a constant supply can live pretty much same longevity as anyone else, and some can even maintain pretty normal life style indefinitely, just like some high functioning alcoholics; and course many millions of folks can use cannabis daily and live perfectly normal lives -- but there sure ain't any old speed freaks from back then still tweaking. - OS

All most interesting, thanks for the post. However, is just not correct AFAIK. No methamphetamine in Adderall at all. Matter of fact, I think the only prescription methamphetamine product still manufactured in the US is Desoxyn, and with no generic substitute. Suggests what a nasty type "speed" it really is, as there are still plenty of other types of amphetamine on the market and gawd knows the pharmaceutical industry will crank out anything they're still allowed to if there's a buck in it. best, - OS
-
That is correct. (assuming the FFL will do it; most will, but they are not compelled to). There are two or three states, I think all in NE, that have state laws such that folks can only do that in adjoining states, but for the most part you can do it between any two states in the union. - OS

Oh Shoot replied to wewoapsiak's topic in General Chat
You can blame Lamar for some of the legacy that has UTK where it is. He very effectively pissed off the Dems in Nashville when he reluctantly and belatedly agreed to be Prez, state was in budget crunch, so Nashville uncharacteristically screwed UT in return, and that was beginning of reduction % of state funding that never really consistently came back. So grants and endowments became even more important, but as the Sciences slid down the ratings, especially the once proud flagship of Engineering, those have lessened also, so tuition has done nothing but climb. But of course Admin is always gonna carve a disproportionate amount off the top, just like CEOs of even failing businesses. It's the American Way.- OS
