  1. <p> It wasn't a matter of "disagreeing" at all. I am interested in the product and simply wanted the accurate facts about its capabilities, both for my possible purchase and for anyone else in same situation. I mentioned in previous post I had written the maker and distributor because I wanted to know for sure. Simply dispensing information, not winning a contest -- it would have been just as fine with me to have been wrong, I absolutely could not care less (and could filter a small city water supply for a few hundred bucks). - OS
  2. Dolo, just to confirm, response from the retail part of the org: ----------------- "From: Customer Service <customerservice@bigberkeywaterfilters.com> To: Mac---- <-----@comcast.net> Hi Mac - You are correct. It's 3000 gallons total, and then you can clean them if needed during that 3000 gallon lifetime. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks Dan DeBaun" -------- - OS
  3. Good points; simple sensory overload could well have been a factor. - OS
  4. Have actually done that, caught 4 over widely spaced years, two on flyrod -- they are indeed incredible, but not sure the gar should be quite equated with them pound for pound IMHO. I also used to catch carp at will out of Melton Hill to use as fertilizer for ... well, um...the "garden", yeah, that's it. - OS
  5. JFYI, you're not showing Benefactor logo, so something isn't clicking correctly.
  6. Yeah, but that doesn't address crowd reaction -- you would think that if a bunch of unarmed folks (and presumed liberals at that ) in a church charged an active shooter, there would have been a few in that movie theater to do the same, since they guy was just slowly moving around in there. That's the rather inexplicable thing about the group dynamics. Though I don't remember the specifics, I'd posit that the folks in the church that took him out were all older than the average in the theater -- that would be one major diff I reckon. Oh yeah, and Loughner was tackled too, to name a more recent one. - OS
  7. I've eaten the only two big ones I ever caught, maybe 9-10 pounders; yes they are bony, but the bones are much larger than in say a carp of equal size. I steaked them out like folks do Northern Pike, pretty easy to pick around bones. Tasted fine. Longears I reckon, 'cause they're the biggest cept for the alligator. Caught 'em below Watts Bar dam. Just odd that I fished that area to death growing up and only caught the two, though have seen a few caught or floating dead in the 20-25# range there. Have caught a few smaller ones up in the lake, dunno which breed they were. Would see them sometimes coming through the area while night fishing with lanterns, but just very rare to hook one. One thing though, that I didn't learn till recently, and learned it right here on TGO: Gar eggs are poisonous. Like seriously! Lucky I didn't happen to eat any (maybe they didn't have any) as I'd fry up crappie, bream, bass, etc eggs from time to time. - OS edit: Mondo bizzaro; I guess I always approached them much too high tech.
  8. Pertinent here methinks, I said this in another thread: "Yah, it does seem that there would at some point been sort of a spontaneous movement of several to rush the guy, but obviously didn't happen. The Unitarian Church shooting here, though small change compared to Holmes, the shooter was rushed almost immediately by several folks as soon as he opened fire; though he did kill the first one, the others got to him and he did have a semi auto shotgun." Somehow the group dynamics were really different in that theater than in that church. - OS
  9. Holy crap. The Big Easy grinds away from nowhere, Scott drops another shot and they're tied with Scott starting the 18th. Birdie to win, bogey to lose, par for a playoff. Lordie, hits bunker off tee, has to pitch out. Hits nice 3rd, 10 foot putt, ...... I'm so hoping he wins now, Stevie can stick it to Tiger again ..... Wow, misses it by a hair, Els wins! Oh well, it's been a long dry spell for the Big Easy, and few nicer guys in the game. What an open finish!
  10. Those are really really really the only two possibilities? - OS
  11. That's actually a minor source of solace for me. It somewhat pisses me off that Obama (and many others) claim to be Christian but are actually more like me -- but I understand why. But it really does rather frighten me that Romney seems to actually believe that stuff. Says much regarding just how scarey I see BHO in other ways, that I'm still voting for Mitt. - OS
  12. That's a lot of philosophy and/or opinion to discuss, and would take this way off topic. To answer your one actual question, yes. But of course, "nut" is a relatively benign term; all we paltry homo sapiens are of that ilk in one or more ways. - OS
  13. Where are you catching them? Not that it probably makes any diff to ya, but unless you've found some strange and rare concentration of them, they're almost certainly not alligator gar, btw. Also, to echo Batman, what ARE you using? I've fished around them the majority of my life in Watts Bar, caught very few. I once spent a couple of afternoons floating around a bazillion of them floating around in the Holston River, never got a one to strike and I tossed everything at them, artificial and live. - OS
  14. I just find it ironic. As an agnostic, I have to choose some religious nut every election. I must admit though, that one of the few things more bizarre to me than plain ole Christianity is the further lunatic layer that Mormonism tacks onto it. - OS
  15. I didn't vote, left it for you guys to decide. And y'all chose Mitt, so gotta go with him myself now. - OS
  16. The Rules of Golf have much in common with Real Life. I've always believed that's the subtle philosophy behind the seemingly unfair ones staying in. - OS
  17. Well, the wind is more of a factor today than it has been the first three. Actually, weather hasn't been like a British Open at all. Looks like Tiger is crashing his chances all on # 6. Yep, tripled it. His second bunker shot from a sitting sprawl will be on all the highlights. - OS
  18. It is. Goes through TICS (Tennessee Instant Check System, by TBI) to NICS. Just another layer, and essentially a gun tax. Don't know if TBI keeps the bucks or goes in general fund, or what. But it's not like the dime/box ammo tax, which goes to TWRA, which is perceived as a mostly useful part of more general useless bureaucracy. - OS
  19. Brandt Snedeker just three down to Adam Scott in The Open, early in final round. He led after the first two rounds, fell during the third. Playing with Tiger one group ahead of leader Scott. - OS
  20. 94 user said: "I cannot load a round without ending up with a cocked hammer." So, there's a type of PX4, different from yours, where that happens? - OS
  21. Practical proposals like yours makes me giggle. You realize the admin has just re-approved "bed rest, personal care activities, massage, exercise, journaling, motivational reading, smoking cessation, weight loss promotion, participation in parent-teacher meetings, or helping friends or family with household tasks and errands" as counting as "work" to qualify for benefits from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families , right? THAT'S the way it's going, the exact opposite way from practicality or even modicum of sanity. Hence my giggles, Mr. Quixote. - OS
  22. Fortunately, we're running tax payer paid ads to make sure that everybody possible is on food stamps. I'm a retired senior citizen I guess, and I'm far from needing them. But ya know what? Looks like if I juggled some money around, put most everything into property, used every available deduction, I might could just barely qualify for some myself. Or really, why play it by the rules? I could just easily lie a bit. Odds of being caught are pretty low, methinks. Reckon they even cross reference income tax returns with food stamp applicants? All 45 million of them? Hell, the IRS can't even catch the tens of thousands who defraud it each year. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't even cross reference Social Security, who knows. Once a bureaucracy gets to a certain size and complexity, it's untenable. This of course happened long ago in the US and now it's just an absolute joke. We borrow 40% of every dollar spent and waste half of that dollar. Isn't this just a small part of the total prob?: http://www.tngunowne...ng-worse-daily/ - OS
  23. That's a mighty strong prognostication, even for Neal ... he say that on radio or somebody's TV show? - OS
  24. 200 gallons is a helluva nice cushion whatever the reasons one may need it. - OS
