  1. Echo that. Part of that is because blades are so much easier to snap up than guns, at least in the price range I generally inhabit. Approaching 200 or so, but I only have 3-4 that cost a c-note or more, and maybe only about 8-10 more even over $50. The fact that I accidentally found myself to be a neck knife collector added to the sickness. Really am gonna sell off a bunch of stuff ere long, though, and have started my own private 12 step program. - OS
  2. I'm sure I must have cocked a loaded revolver a time or three at ranges and decided not to fire it, but can't remember; at any rate, as long as you're pointed downrange on empty range, not much risk decocking it. But I do well remember one time about a year ago, had just cleaned my (newer) Blackhawk here at home, loaded it up, spun the cylinder, and for some absurd reflex reason cocked it. Spooked me a bit instantly as I did it, and though I've one hand decocked it empty a bazillion times, I actually put my opposite thumb under hammer as I eased it down. Even though as soon as hammer starts down, if you've let off the trigger, the transfer bar mechanism wouldn't let it fire if hammer slipped and fell, it still seemed pretty scary here in the ole abode. And yeah, I've generally had a .357 or .38 revo around all my adult life, and have often thought just how cavalierly the movies show these babies being bandied around cocked, whether in oaters or tec flicks. Anyway, my Beretta 92 is only semi-auto I have with a hammer, am I'm quite pleased it has a decocker. - OS
  3. Ya know, there's no telling what really happened. Seems likely that this guy never even fired any of these guns before he walked into the theater with them. For all I've heard, he may never have even fired a gun in his entire life! I suppose, if we can believe it whenever it comes out, the exact number of rounds fired, the types of mags he had, and how many were left in each, might give a more complete picture. I'm beginning to wonder if most of the wounded folks were actually hit by sprayed birdshot, and there may have been a lot fewer actual shots fired than panicked eye witness reports seem to indicate. I guess it's a good thing he didn't really know his stuff: I suspect that most any AR owner who has actually shot the thing for a while, assuming his intent was to do so, would have killed more than 12 folks under the same circumstances. Likely many more. And really, similar results with a 9mm or larger caliber handgun with a buncha mags -- hell, Cho killed 32 with "only" 9mm and .22LR handguns at VA Tech. - OS
  4. Yah, earlier and longer thread at: http://www.tngunowne...rsecurity-bill/ Let's keep it there, 'cause I just put a lot of effort into a long post. :)
  5. While there's no reason to think it has any real legs, as mentioned by ttocswob the hicap magazine ban is in the proposed amendment (SA 2572), not in the Cyber Security bill itself (S 3414). This is in the same vein of totally unrelated legislation being tacked on as was handgun carry in national parks onto credit card reform bill. In that instance, BHO's and the Dems' hands were forced, as they weren't politically willing to back away from the main bill itself at that time, and let the amendment become part of it. In this case, looks like even the original bill is pretty iffy, let alone any amendments proposed thus far. It's not included in formal bill record yet, as has not been officially proposed, only announced to be proposed two days ago -- here it is in the Congressional Record for those who want documentation from the enemy :-) -- begins on page 2, right hand column): http://www.gpo.gov/f...1-PgS5401-3.pdf This seems to be essentially the same if not actually verbatim what Lautenberg had submitted as a stand alone bill after the Gabby Giffords et. al. shooting last year. Full text (bolding mine): ----------------------- SA 2575. Mr. LAUTENBERG (for himself, Mrs. BOXER, Mr. REED, Mr. MENENDEZ, Mrs. GILLIBRAND, Mr. SCHUMER, and Mrs. FEINSTEIN) submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 3414, to enhance the security and resiliency of the cyber and communications infrastructure of the United States; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: At the appropriate place, insert the following SEC. ll. PROHIBITION ON TRANSFER OR POSSESSION OF LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES. (a) DEFINITION.—Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after paragraph (29) the following: ‘‘(30) The term ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’— ‘‘(A) means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition; but ‘‘( does not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.’’. ( PROHIBITIONS.—Section 922 of such title is amended by inserting after subsection (u) the following: ‘‘(v)(1)(A)(i) Except as provided in clause (ii), it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device. ‘‘(ii) Clause (i) shall not apply to the possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device otherwise lawfully possessed within the United States on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection. ‘‘( It shall be unlawful for any person to import or bring into the United States a large capacity ammunition feeding device. ‘‘(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to— ‘‘(A) a manufacture for, transfer to, or possession by the United States or a department or agency of the United States or a State or a department, agency, or political subdivision of a State, or a transfer to or possession by a law enforcement officer employed by such an entity for purposes of law enforcement (whether on or off duty); ‘‘( a transfer to a licensee under title I of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 for purposes of establishing and maintaining an on-site physical protection system and security organization required by Federal law, or possession by an employee or contractor of such a licensee on-site for such purposes or offsite for purposes of licensee-authorized training or transportation of nuclear materials; ‘‘© the possession, by an individual who is retired from service with a law enforcement agency and is not otherwise prohibited from receiving ammunition, of a large capacity ammunition feeding device transferred to the individual by the agency upon that retirement; or ‘‘(D) a manufacture, transfer, or possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device by a licensed manufacturer or licensed importer for the purposes of testing or experimentation authorized by the Attorney General.’’. © PENALTIES.—Section 924(a) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘(8) Whoever knowingly violates section 922(v) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.’’. (d) IDENTIFICATION MARKINGS.—Section 923(i) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘A large capacity ammunition feeding device manufactured after the date of the enactment of this sentence shall be identified by a serial number that clearly shows that the device was manufactured after such date of enactment, and such other identification as the Attorney General may by regulation prescribe.’’. ---------------------- - OS edit: I see part of my post is now an echo.
  6. double tap, sorry.
  7. That opinion was issued in 2007, long before the law changed. "International circle and slash" (gunbuster) is perfectly conforming currently, and can stand alone. "Substantially similar" was not defined at that time either, but is now. - OS
  8. Will you settle for rules from agencies under his thumb? Chinese firearms and ammunition ban was extended. Korean stocks of US Garands and carbines banned from brokering to US Multiple long gun purchases reporting instituted in border states. Of course Fast and Furious is so blatantly obvious as to intent, it doesn't even need proof. - OS
  9. Just a heads up, TGO's CoC does not require you to slog through any given post. - OS
  10. Well, it's certainly not statutorily compliant, but not "illegal" to put it up. That doesn't mean it absolutely couldn't cost you some significant bucks to prove you weren't guilty of violating the statute itself, though. - OS
  11. I'd be surprised it they drop much below that anywhere, way things are trending. - OS
  12. What about Aug 2? If you're gonna tilt at windmills, go vote against Corker in primary (unless you're pleased with him). I did, yesterday. Not to mention other local and state rep/senator stuff you may have going on. Some of those will still be in play in Nov too, whether you want to vote for POTUS or not. - OS
  13. Out the door? If not, + $750 w/ tax/tics. Call 'em, Patrick. - OS
  14. You consider the 4000 block of Chapman Hwy. "downtown"? - OS
  15. May or may not still be that anywhere .. Sport was super popular, supply is down, and prices on everything seem to have already crept up. Last great deal I saw was short lived run on them at PSA about 6 weeks ago, $665 in hand if you had a $30 transfer/TICS FFL in your area. - OS
  16. I only had to invest in a theater ticket, not a new home entertainment system. - OS
  17. Avatar in 3D was reason I last went to a walk-in. - OS
  18. Got one myself a couple years ago. Conventional stock and black metal though. Matter of fact, I see they've changed the whole bolt and handle The bolt lugs fell out of mine, but once Mossberg replaced whole gun, it's been fine, just that my shipping made it not such a cheap deal as it started. I put a little 2-7x20mm BSA scope on it they don't even make any more, does just fine.I suspect it's as accurate a .22 as I own, but the trigger has remained so stiff I can't prove it. They seem to have improved it any? Tried to order some extra mags, Mossberg just kept sending them without charging me, wound up with about 16 of them before they finally charged me for four and quit sending them! - OS
  19. Lordy y'all, it was just a meaningless poll, unless you think Congress waits with bated breath for policy opinions out of Allentown, PA. Bone up on "bare" versus "bear"? - OS
  20. Because he's a practical man, knows how to wield power effectively, not chained to a rigid ideology, and loves the USA. And doesn't care if he ever makes another buck. All qualities that are 180 degrees from BHO. What many criticize as "waffling" through the last 20 years of so, could also be seen as "changing to meet the realities of the age". Flexibility in fast changing times is not necessarily a drawback. Slick Willy saved his presidency by "waffling", and in so doing also gave the US it's last truly great prosperity. Ronald Reagan was an uber liberal Hollywood union president, before he "waffled" into a God of Conservatism. - OS
  21. And mysterious. You glued it to the wall? - OS
  22. Feds have left it alone in the states where legal w/ script, or possession reduced to minor fine. - OS
  23. I voted for him today. I'll be amazed if he or any of the other Rep in primary get 10%. In general, Corker will crush whoever. Actually, is anyone even running on Dem ticket? - OS
  24. "Glock" stands alone. Means "high capacity high powered automatic killing rampage handgun". Slips through metal detectors too. - OS
  25. It doesn't require your input. 4473 on page 3: "Complete ATF Form 3310.4 For Multiple Purchases of Handguns Within 5 Consecutive Business Days" - OS
