Going to Gatlinburg without carry permit.
Oh Shoot replied to Jesse's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Good point there, too -- although the exception to unlawful possession does not use the term "dwelling", if it's lawful to use deadly force in a "dwelling" for forcible entry, it would logically follow that it's lawful to have a loaded firearm there in the first place. A real gray area though is where laws conflict. Like camping in an area that is posted, whether private, TVA, or perhaps ACOE. On the third hand, if you ever have to actually use the gun in justified defense, you are not to be charged with any of the gun violations listed in whole section of 39-17-13xx. TN weapons law just sucks in that much of it is "in defense of" or "an exception to" the premise that something is illegal in the first place. - OS -

Far from any kind of legal advise here, but most opinions I've read both here and elsewhere opine that the defense of doing it in one's "place of residence" includes temporary ones also. Statutes don't address that more specifically than that AFAIK, don't know if there's TN case law or not. You can perhaps PM one of our resident legal vendors, see if they'll respond here: Patrick Stegall (Stegall Law Firm) and/or Charles Cain (midtennchip). - OS edit: slow on the draw. David's statement has always been my understanding also -

What's wrong with this picture is: 1. You seem to think they moved New Haven to New Hampshire? 2. We don't know if he was open carrying or not. But if he were, every source I can find claims that a CT carry permit allows concealed or open carry, just like in TN (although carry is not preempted for local ordinances and no carry signs also carry weight of law there). - OS -
Foreman on my first real job (I was 13) would say, "Boy, I'm gonna put a lump on your head so big you'll have to stand on tiptoe to rub it. " Boy, that goes back to the Flapper Era. My grandfather's generation would say when something is good, "That's the berries". Like, "This fried chicken is really the berries." - OS

One in the chamber a no-go at Bass Pro...
Oh Shoot replied to deerslayer's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The purpose of the sign is the same as the ones at Gander Mountain, if you are bringing in a gun for exchange, repair, shipping for repair, or to fit to holster or other accessory; it has been stated in the past by others talking to less idiotic managers than the one you did. Here is pertinent article from June of this year, which also contains Bass Pro's actual gun policy: http://www.guns.com/...olicy-9219.html Print their policy out and give it to the idiot manager next time you go in. Or just report him to corporate like the fellow did in the article, since they are supposed to be "trained" regarding the matter. - OS -
Cropped, upsampled and density/contrast blown out, does look round near as I can tell:

Plus the TS model has all the groovy rails on it too, unlike the Sub2K.

Yeah, I see the firing pin channel prob from search, but see Golden Saber, Corbon, and others mentioned besides S&B. Some claim any +p round was a prob. Lots of anecdotal stuff regarding different loads, tough to give any particular one any great credence unless I saw it stated by Ruger. Ain't nothing wrong with any of them I'd say, but rather with the LC9 design. Whatever the prob with firing channel letting debris in, Ruger seems to have fixed it with current issue of the gun, must have put some sort of seal toward firing pin area or something. - OS

The Kel-Tec isn't any "nicer" than the Hi-Point. I'd rate quality of build about the same. The Subbie of course offers additional capability via the folding feature and hi-cap mag availability, so in some ways it's "niftier" -- but you pay for that of course. - OS

Oh Shoot replied to Paladin132's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah, if you're accessing the web, piece of cake. Old fossils like me (and apparently Dave) with just an old Dumb Cell Phone can't do it very well, without paying $2 for 411. I used GOOG 411 for a while, but that went away long ago. - OS -

I don't understand the "tribal" motifs. Are they authentic to certain tribes around the world? How do you know what they mean and decide what tribe to "affiliate" with? - OS

Echo that, I was gonna ask also.

Breaking: Paul Ryan chosen as Romney VP
Oh Shoot replied to plank white's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We've reached tipping point of takers vs. producers in this country. The only question is how many eligible voters on the teat will actually show to vote. If overwhelming majority do, combined with the rest of the libs, BHO wins, hands down. Irony is that the worse things get, the larger the Dem voter base becomes. After 4 more years, they'll have an ongoing lock ... until The Big Pain. Ryan will give the Dems more of the scare-the-poor ammo. People are unhappy that they are poor, but don't understand that the country being poor contributes to that. I also expect to see the Hill start swinging the other way too, but especially hope I'm wrong about that. Maybe not, as it's harder to get much of the Dem base off their duffs on non-presidential election years, might be only saving grace. - OS -
Urban Walmart legend as to reason, even if there were a shooting there. Kid told me similar about Knoxville, one kid told me "it's because of UT being inside city limits". Etc. Fact is almost certainly that Walmart spreadsheets show that the metro Wallies don't sell as many rifles and shotguns as the outlying and smaller town ones, not worth the FFL hassle for them there. Walmart is managed to the nth degree for profit margin, no way they'd base what they sell where on any other reason. If indeed they start selling handguns, that may change, though. No indication so far that all those rumors were true. - OS

Well, there's only one, with the last two presidential ones following after, so all Biden's idiocy will have time to diffuse a bit over the next couple weeks. I'll bet this is one evening that BHO wishes he could somehow zap, though. - OS -

We'll never probably know exactly how these picks come about. Rubio may well have simply turned it down, if he didn't honestly think they could win. Losing as veep candidate ain't a plus to winning if and when he runs for prez himself. I'm so glad it wasn't Christie. I'd have still have had to vote for them, but would have been even more distasteful. - OS
