  1. Hubris/ego and hope/fear are the primary underlying reasons for our bent toward magical thinking also. Should our species actually survive until Sol fries Terra, even should we become "immortal" by dispersing our seed to the stars, it is possible that aspects of our perceivable universe will always be unknowable. And it may well be thus for any other species in the ~100 billion galaxies in the currently observable plane of the universe. But that seems a poor reason to perpetuate magical explanations that at heart have changed little since the first Homo Erectus shaman realized that he could get fed without having to kill the mammoth himself. - OS
  2. If you tweak it any, add a Volquartsen extractor. Cheap upgrade that will likely prevent probs in the future; factory extractor is marginal, and probably half of them will go wonky over time. Extraction probs are 90% of all probs with the 10/22, masquerade as all kinds of FTF, stovepipe, etc. Cheapest trigger upgrade is probably still Volquartsen target hammer kit. Not full blown best trigger you can get but improves it by 100% for about $35, pretty easy to install. - OS
  3. I'd call the simple fact that we have vestigial parts of our bodies as proof that we have evolved. Coccyx , appendix, whatever indicate they are remnants of functions that were once more pronounced and purposeful than now. Other things seemingly have never evolved fast enough. Like the spine, which should structurally be much larger to support our now biped ways. The real question is what happened around a million years ago, and then maybe again ~10,000 years ago for the brain to take such a quantum leap. That's the one thing that progressed disproportionally quickly. I think dem Sumerians wuz the result of some serious tweaking -- we may be some extraterrestrial's high school science project. Btw, the duck billed platypus sure is suspicious, too. - OS
  4. They do have plant in Mayfield, KY and a R&D facility in Elizabethtown, KY, but the Madison, NC location is only their corporate/admin headquarters, likely mostly for tax purposes. Marlin and H&R show Madison as their headquarters also, and yeah, I know they are all "one", but they still operate as separate companies on paper for all them high finance reasons I don't understand. - OS
  5. Correct. Factually misleading title was my point. Here's same story from NY Times, no mention of Bloomie at all, and they're in his pocket. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/24/nyregion/calls-for-stricter-gun-laws-worry-ilion-ny-built-by-remington.html?pagewanted=all - OS
  6. Guess you haven't seen the sequel, 28 Weeks Later. Asymptomatic carriers! - OS
  7. Not seeking to diminish any Bloomberg hate or anything, but he doesn't seem to have anything to do with driving this effort, it's a state legislative issue. Neither company is in NYC. He's only mentioned in the story in passing, as example of a gun control advocate pol. So seems he's not really "at it again" as far as this issue (though he's likely all for it). - OS
  8. No choice -- it's unlawful to carry a sword around. - OS
  9. It's not like we get to vote on issues and neither did the Aussies. Only get to vote for politicians. If gun control were a matter of national referendum we would probably have lost most all gun rights already. We certainly wouldn't be legally carrying them. Another 20 years more or less of progressive "reeducation to the masses", and we could easily go much the same route. - OS
  10. I do believe I may attend, gonna be in Nooga anyway. - OS
  11. Easier with the clip attached. Just grab with long nosed pliers right close to anchoring screws, or where bend first starts downward, depending on clip type. If you go too far, though, you will have to take it off to bend back to tighter by grabbing in two places. Doesn't take much of a tweak to make significant diff. - OS
  12. However, Greg, there is still a significant difference between the two parties. The Dems are so far left I need binos to see them clearly, and even though the GOP is also to the west, I can at least still spot them with the naked eye. - OS
  13. The Republican and Democratic Parties had beginnings. Perhaps another can also. The GOP will never again become more conservative than it is right now, and most of its platform that even suggests so is lip service only. - OS
  14. It's still the only vote to cast this time around. The Anti Christ ain't never been in office before. - OS
  15. I've said over and over that the Tea Party would just be diluted and ultimately impotent within the GOP, would have to become a real third party to have any chance of changing anything. - OS
  16. "We can keep doing that," he said, "but we have to pass stronger gun laws in this state. We're not talking about repealing conceal/ carry, but making sure we have a tougher set of laws dealing with assault weapons and other types of guns." Umm, repeal the conceal/carry that doesn't exist? DeadFish is always such a hoot. - OS
  17. Ah, sorry for the aside. I didn't realize topic title was also name of company/website. - OS
  18. Assuming you're talking about The Beltman, I've been wearing the 1.5" Bullhide for about 3.5 years now daily. Not much appreciable wear shows, except for the way it has molded around the prominent OS middle regions. I have walked many a sweaty mile with it, too. Can hit it up with neutral Kiwi once in a great while to dress it back up a bit, or use colored polish to touch up any place you might have dug into deep enough to get past the deeply stained color. Have also used one of his key fobs for same length of time, it's held up nicely also. - OS
  19. Not meaning to speak badly of the departed in any way, but yeah, seems he leaned on the Kholster guy who shut down site/production for a little while and "redesigned"; supposedly that's really why the backing is round or crescent on his, changed it to "distinguish" his product, though he says it's so the end use can customize it. A mention of a couple of patents indeed did appear on Crossbreed's site at some point around this time, and are still mentioned there, FWIW. Seems that the first designer with any following was Tucker's "The Answer" -- if a copyright on the kydex/leather style would indeed ever have been enforceable, seems he was the one who should have patented it. Then next major maker was CompTac with the Minotaur, which really took off. Then Crossbreed cranked up later. And certainly "everyone" makes one nowadays, from one man shops to some of the traditional bigs like Desantis and Galco, etc. So obviously there must be quite a bit of um...leeway, in Crossbreed's patents, to say the least. Again, not saying anyone in the whole saga was a bad guy at all, just quick recap of that holster genre. RIP, Mr. Craighead, and my condolences to all his friends and loved ones. - OS
  20. I wish I had the 007 cans I shot as a young man. They're worth as much as 500 clams each. - OS
  21. People do collect the Ring of Fire guns, too. Seems any working one is worth at least a C note, for that and (gulp) other purposes. - OS
  22. Didn't look up actual voting record, but the Dems alone had enough votes to seat them both. - OS
  23. Neil, you can come harvest some off my back veranda with my BB gun; they're always baited there. Big fat pigeons, too, growth-hormone free. - OS
  24. Google Ed's Red for bore cleaner, make it yourself. Lots of folks simply use motor oil for all their firearms lubrication; Mobile One synthetic may be the most popular. - OS
