  1. You pay property tax whether you have kids in school or drive or call the fire department, or .... I'd say the constitutionality is more in the realm of tax levy than firearms in this case. However, I do believe the TICS is likely unconstitutional since it's not called a tax -- and clearly the unlawful carry/HCP statutes are since they have nothing to do with "regulating crime", except in the sense that TN makes criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens for packing without having a permit. - OS
  2. Unlawful possession/carry in public has as far as I know been a Class A 'meanor since enacted, like "forever". Fines/jail for the various levels of felonies and 'meanors have also been same since "forever" too. And sure, most folks don't get the max for any level of misdemeanor, even DUI -- then again Lenny, being the type of man that Will Rogers never met, might well have! It was just a comment on the actual charge that would logically be lodged if you carry something other than a "handgun" with a permit. Same as a knife over 4". Drops down to Class C 'meanor if not in "public", like in your car I suppose. - OS
  3. No TN sales tax. Just shipping, your local FFL transfer fee and $10 TICS (background check) - OS
  4. Once you find out what it is, you need to determine if it's something that may come up again and again, if it's something that's become "lodged" in the system, and get it rectified. If not outright mis-identification, most common seems to be some charge from the distant past that doesn't show as settled, even if the charge wouldn't have been disqualifying if guilty in the first place. Probably not your prob since you passed the even more extensive HCP background check, though, and these type findings are more common for that check. Then again, databases seem to come and go and change with a life of their own sometimes. - OS
  5. Well, charge would be unlawful carry. In public. Class A 'meanor: up to $2500 and/or year in jail - OS
  6. Well, you have HCP, so whatever it is should get worked out. Question I always ask, did you use your SSN? That seems to cut through the chaff most of the time. - OS
  7. "a sickness that is dangerous and contagious" .... If you try gay, you can't stay away. LOL. - OS
  8. Mine just gives black screen, even kills right click options, reload from menu or Control+R does nada. XP Home with all patches, FF 15.1, even restarted with add-ons disabled, nada. - OS
  9. A lot more than that, but they don't mention "birth state" per se. "TICS accesses the following databases: Tennessee Criminal History Repository File maintained by the TBI and supported by arrest fingerprint cards. Persons who are convicted felons cannot legally possess a firearm. State of Tennessee Orders of Protection Data entered, maintained and deleted by Tennessee law enforcement agencies (generally Sheriff’s departments) on persons against whom a restraining order has been issued by a judge. Active protection orders, which meet state or federal laws, will disqualify an individual from obtaining a firearm. National Crime Information Center Database maintaining files on wanted persons, protection orders, deported felons, U.S. Secret Service Protective (persons who may pose a threat to the President and/or others afforded protection by the U.S. Secret Service), foreign fugitives, SENTRY File (persons currently under supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons), Convicted Person on Supervised Release File and the Convicted Sexual Offender Registry. Interstate Identification Index The national repository for criminal history record information. National Instant Check System (NICS) The federal instant background check system maintained by the FBI. It houses databases on Denied Persons, Illegal/Unlawful Aliens, Controlled Substance Abusers, Dishonorable Dischargees, Citizenship renunciants and Mental Defectives/Commitments." - OS
  10. Well, you wouldn't want to get in a confined pen with a bison bull anymore than a normal bull, and trying to ride one would probably be similar, but they're certainly not dangerous animals per se. Cape buffalo they ain't. Only Indians ever killed by bison got trampled while running them. And the reason riflemen had to eradicate them from long range or using horses as cover is because they run away at sight of a man. But so dim, gunfire didn't phase them. That's why they were so easy to slaughter. You're not likely to be able to get a pure bison to play with (or shoot) nowadays anyway, and it ain't likely that Ted's are either. I looked into them back in the 70's, thinking I might want to do a bit of the beefalo thang, there were still pure bison bulls and cows available then but they've all become their own various beefalo subspecies now as I understand it, though seems there ain't much of a market for it anymore. - OS
  11. Or something. IE works fine on both boxes, 8 on XP and 9 on Win7
  12. It is the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Instant Check System, after all. - OS
  13. Hmmm...check that. FireFox 15.1 on WinXP box = nada FireFox 15.1 on Win7 box = works fine Something more to do with my one puter/OS than Vimeo it seems, sorry for alarm. - OS
  14. Speaking of Nuge and poachers ... oops. Btw, I imagine one might could get that zebra right on his own fenced hunting preserve in Michigan. Hell, maybe an elephant, too for all I know. Advertises deer, American buffalo, and "exotics". "American buffalo" sounds a lot more dangerous than "bison", which is about as aggressive as your average farm cow. - OS
  15. just a note: didn't work at all with my FF 15.0 works fine with IE, must be something MS-centric involved with Vimeo, didn't see anything obvious in FAQs? - OS
  16. They'll probably call you tomorrow, approved. A hassle, but wouldn't worry. - OS
  17. Too many reasons to list, but probably just what they said, some system down. Almost certainly not due to your relocation. TICS accesses 5 databases. The main NICS database itself accesses a bunch of additional databases also. http://www.tbi.tn.go...ack_check.shtml That's a lot to go wrong at any time, especially since you're dealing with government. Amazing to me it "works" as well as it does. So you just went home, approval still pending, or still at the store? - OS
  18. The "why people are gay" is amazingly the first off topic part of this whole discussion. They exist, therefore they want the option of the marriage contract. - OS
  19. As I said, what makes consenting adults horny doesn't matter to me, not part of the argument one way or the other. The issue is same sex "marriage". Since marriage is not only a contract between two people but also a contract between those two people and The State, any two people should be able to enter into it. The contract with the state is actually much stronger, as the couple can negate it, but The State can't. - OS
  20. Not for me to say. Doesn't matter to me whether it's nature or nurture, choice or compulsion, or combined impetus. I've always liked Neal Boortz's quote, that when faced with complicated issues, "I always default to freedom". - OS
  21. Here's a bunch of info, seems like I searched once before and didn't find much, must've used bad search terms, seems lots of people do it: https://www.google.c...lient=firefox-a - OS
  22. Sexuality isn't always either/or. Lots of bi folks. Lots of men and women who even had kids in a hetero relationship that later went all gay, or other way around. The ole in-out in-out is just one of the many complexities and paradoxes of the species. - OS
  23. Old boss of mine used to plant his taters in tires. Put in a set or thee close together, when topside comes up, put a tire around it and fill in with soil, keep doing that as green tops grew out higher. Would go maybe 7 or 8 high, best I remember. Was there once when he harvested -- just knock the tire stack over, taters galore spill out. Never heard of anyone else doing that, but it sure looked easy, no weeding, and didn't take much garden space to get a lot of them. - OS
  24. Nah. Bout the same half percent or less as always I'd say. If it should get a whole 1% as in 1980, I'd be impressed. Really. - OS
  25. Yeah, it's a cross between a black panther and a blue racer. Seriously, though, whatever it is ... it may have a collar on, eh? KahrMan, have ya tried getting out walking toward it, calling it? Might trot right over to ya. My best friend had an un-neutered male Malamute/mix, think maybe German Shepard but can't remember for sure -- I spent a bunch of time with him back when, weighed about 125 or more in non-rut seasons. Looked more similar than dissimilar to the pix near as I can tell. Great animal, could tell some funny stories about ole Willy Dawg. - OS
