I don't know when or how it got here, or how it naturally propagated, but it was around when I was a tyke. You don't find it everywhere, but where it is there is often a lot of it. It stays green year round too. - OS

Lance Armstrong Banned for Life and Stripped of Titles

He just stepped down a chairman of his LiveStrong Foundation (staying on the board, though) and Nike has dropped him. And now an accusation that Nike bribed UCI to hide doping test results. - OS -
Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?

The US doesn't have enough tanks to lock down a couple of our largest cities, let alone the whole US. If you think it'll come to that just to get the guns, might as well toss in tactical nukes too. - OS -
Worst part was her support of Hussein's claim about calling the Benghazi thing "terrorism" the next day in the Rose Garden. He did not, only mentioned the word "terroism" in general in closing sentence. Had just harped on the "we don't know but there's this YouTube thing" up till then. Mitt was right and she and Hussein were wrong, but her statement of got roar of pro Hussein approval from the crowd. - OS

Equally irritating. A draw. Mitt should keep his slight edge in momentum. My money's still on Hussein, though. Hope I'm wrong. - OS

I love movie, wildly divergent genres of movies. I'll say it again -- I can separate the art from the artist. And yes, Jane Fonda has made some damn fine movies. - OS

Well, of course, even if he had been convicted of 1351, it wouldn't have tested the loss of TN HCP stipulation. - OS

Not found in "the woods" but you can eat any clover, red or white. Raw, cooked, flowers can be dried and ground for a crude flour or cooked into a mush. Grass won't hurt you, but you can't digest hardly anything from it, but we can digest clover. - OS

oops, double tap.

One thing about a Marlin, it can be put into false half cock and the gun can fire if trigger is pulled or hammer struck from that position. In that case the cross bolt safety could be a life saver. I guess Winchester and Rossi models are same? - OS

Pretty amazing the folks that can do that. Any number of native born American actors have failed miserably just trying for a US southern accent, if they weren't such to begin with. - OS

I didn't realize Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was English till I heard him on some interview the other day, speaking in cultured London-ese. No trace of the accent as Rick, rather amazing really. Jude Law can do it too -- think Cold Mountain. - OS

We still haven't seen test case to know, but TCA also says HCP is suspended or revoked for 1359 violation. - OS

Like they haven't had any so far and all.

It's by far advisable to separate art from politics -- otherwise one's knowledge and appreciation of those arts will be quite limited indeed. - OS

You could be right. Especially if those legs are all he's got -- and if those feet are truly webbed, then you're almost certainly right. "Status in Tennessee: Double-crested Cormorants are an uncommon migrant and winter resident in East Tennessee, and a fairly common migrant and winter resident in Middle and West Tennessee. They are an uncommon breeding bird in the state, but numbers are increasing rapidly. Double-crested Cormorants were formerly listed as In-Need-of-Management in Tennessee when the breeding population disappeared and wintering populations were very low." http://www.tnwatchablewildlife.org/details.cfm?displayhabitat=water&sort=aounumber&typename=WATER&uid=09042709213852092&commonname=Double-crested%20Cormorant - OS

Public ramps are okay, too. And yeah, that'll impress them right out of their socks. - OS -
Gotta be a trick of light/shadow. Feet look almost crudely Photoshopped in, just low rez and small in the frame with legs not extended I guess. But surely it's a Great Blue, the other few large waders we have don't look anything like them? Then again, hard to get a real scale of it's actual size, but if that's a 2x8 it's on, looks like a youngun. - OS

We really do have them, ya know. But ain't nobody ever caught one in a bag. And yep, I've been in on a few snipe hunts in my youth. With bags. As both victim and perpetrator. - OS

I'm fairly large guy as you know, and really, I'm only completely comfy with my PM9 in cargo shorts/pants, which fortunately my normal daily attire. No jeans I have have a pocket that is suitable. Oddly, though, I have several pairs of dress pants that accommodate it better than jeans, but the cargo rules. But anything bigger than this heater won't cut it in pocket for me. Folks amaze me who do a G26/27 or XD Subbie 9/40. Then again, folks like Glenn and DLM could probably hide a Colt Dragoon. - OS

ON the lake is clearcut, it is a navigable waterway, no different than a highway. TVA has rights to shoreline rightaway, has stated in letters posted here and there that they don't interfere with legal carry at boat ramps and undeveloped property on shoreline, but their own parks and campgrounds they post. TVA dams themselves I believe are considered federal buildings, meaning the actual enclosed part of operations and visitor centers (which are by federal law also supposed to be posted). Here's a quote I saved, but the link has moved so can't point to it. This is from handgunlaw.us. ------------------- "Firearms on Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA Property) 4. Firearms and Weapons - TVA campgrounds may receive use by hunters during hunting season. While firearms and weapons are generally prohibited, possession of firearms and other weapons associated with in-season hunting excursions are permissible if they are unloaded and properly cased. Possession of firearms at TVA public ramps, associated roads, and parking areas are allowed if the possession complies with the law of the state where the boat ramp is located and is not otherwise prohibited by law. Note: Day Use Areas, Campgrounds, and other developed recreational TVA lands are still off limits. TVA lands where Hunting is presently allowed, Undeveloped Shorelines, Boat Ramps, Boat Ramp Parking Areas and Associated Roads for those areas is where carry will be allowed." -------------------------- TWRA of course has no authority over HCP handgun carry. COE is really the only stickler, as is "federal property" but not national park, and still technically no carry. They are the operating authority over locks at the TVA dams, as I understand it. However, at least Land Between The Lakes has stated they don't interfere with legal carry: This is somewhere on LBL.org, as quoted in the KY section of handgunlaw.us: ---------------- "Below is the information LE&I provides to the public in regards to possessing firearms at LBL NRA: 1. Possession of firearms is prohibited except during legal firearms hunting seasons by licensed hunters and going to and from the LBL NRA firearms range. Firearms must be cased and unloaded during transport. 2. Firearms possessed during legal hunting seasons by licensed hunters must be cased and unloaded (chamber + magazine) while being transported in a motorized vehicle. 3. LBL LE&I also states that the concealed firearms carry permit does not apply to LBL NRA at this time, although the LE officers at LBL will honor the concealed carry permit if there are no other aggravating circumstances. 5. Examples of aggravating circumstances are, but not limited to, violation of the concealed carry permit itself, shooting from a roadway, or shooting outside of the LBL firearms rangeâ€. ---------------- In short, carrying concealed with a permit, I myself wouldn't worry about it anyplace a sportsman would go, and once on the water wouldn't worry about it period. Notes: - none of the above means you can legally discharge a firearm any particular place mentioned above. - I don't open carry. - I am not a lawyer, and will have enough trouble affording my own bail if any of the above is in error. - OS -

Looking at specs, .4 inch taller and .9 inch longer than PM9, and same height and .5 longer than PM45. Dunno if Kahr is counting mag too, like the XD-S does though, as the PM45 mag juts out well below bottom of grip. But splitting hairs, the XDs seems quite the achievement, and I expect it to be finicky-free and very robust, like the rest of their line. When the 9mm comes out, there may be another PM9 on the market. Them Croats are good, no doubt about that. I wonder if they are still the lead engineers through the XD subbies, XDm line, and now this? - OS

Ah, can see it now. Can I ever. Speaking of the mighty Marlin 60, picked a used stainless/wood stock model up not long ago, wanted one still stamped from CT. Been meaning to get one for years and the factory change finally prompted me. Anyway, was maybe gonna add sling swivel bases, was disappointed to find that the fore stock is really not thick enough to securely screw one in, and it'll take a rather jury rigged method to do one. And don't think I'd trust it to handle stress of a bipod even doing that. - OS
