What do they make the barrels with, that they poop at 6K? Or is that normal?
KT doesn't say the barrel wears out per se. "What is the expected life of a Kel-Tec firearm All Kel-Tec firearms have an expected life of 6,000 rounds or more." Maybe they tend to just disintegrate or something. - OS

Does Your Polling Site Have No Guns Signs
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I believe it is a law in TN - no weapons on polling site premises.
Nope. Just urban carry legend, like banks. My early voting place out in shopping center, not posted. My actual precinct is a high school. - OS -
What will you do on the day after tomorrow?
Oh Shoot replied to Links2k's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Funny isn't it, how something that didn't even exist 20 years ago is now so important that taxpayers now have to pay so everyone can have one???
Well, cheaper than firing up a land line. To be fair about the "ObamaPhone", free home service was first available under Ronald Reagan (called LifeLine), program expanded under Clinton, first cell service came under Bush. No new phone specific program has been started under BHO. It's just that as with all freebie programs, more people are now in them than ever before. - OS -
I'm not sure how far i will get, but I'm going to just give them a call tomorrow.
From other reports, they'll tell you nada and won't even tell you what glitch was if they approve it on appeal. I think they may tell you prob if denied, but I'm not totally sure, and no one else has chimed in yet. TNDOS does tell you when an HCP is denied.
Nshort, I too got in trouble when I was young, (52). No felony but if you have an arrest TBI doesn't check any further....
Sorry, that's just not accurate. As long as there is a disposition for the case on record and it was not a disqualifying offense, purchase is approved. - OS
I thought that only counted on their smaller pistols like my p-32? Either way even if your bit the original owner I think they charge like a $40 bench fee for warranty work and apparently have no qualm swapping worn/broken parts or even replacing whole weapons if need be.
KT says "all KelTec firearms", just for the record. I'd opine that 6K out of their mouse guns is a bit on the optimistic side. Although you'd have to be a real masochist to test that. - OS

Well, the good news: VA too close to even call a leader. The bad news: VA too close to even call a leader. - OS
I thought that is what I said. You just said it better.
No biggie, but re-read, you said: "In audio(phone or radio) recording the non recording person must be advised." I quoted and bolded that in my response. - OS

A Last Minute Appeal To Libertarians And Non-Voters
Oh Shoot replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
In 2010, 90,732,693 voted out of a total of 217,342,419 eligible voters so that works out to about 41.7%...in 2008 it was 62.2%...I guess we'll see what happens this time! Interesting stuff here: http://elections.gmu.edu/index.html
Oh, yeah, non presidential election years are sometimes less. I meant presidential election years, which have always been above 50%. Here's Wiki's stats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_turnout_in_the_United_States_presidential_elections Look how high they were in the 1800's, when it was a lot harder to vote. - OS -
I'm pretty sure that at least in some states now, it is illegal for a citizen to video/audio record a police officer at all...I guess that's what some cities think is an appropriate response to lawsuits.
I don't know if any still have statutes on the book, but the Supreme Court ruled in 2011 that taping public interactions with police is a right protected under the 1A. Not researching it, bu I think it was was maybe Boston and somewhere in Michigan wound up paying substantial damages for arresting someone for it, too. - OS
Have you contested the it yet? There is a way to call foul if you feel you are being wrongfully denied the purchase. Do that then if you get no recourse you can try fixing it elsewhere.
He said he appealed. FFL pretty much does it automatically unless you don't want to. Anytime there is a charge they find as "unresolved" or "no disposition", likely to get denied. The HCP seems to be even more sensitive to that. And it doesn't have to have been a charge that would have been disqualifying either. Assuming that's what it is, one needs to take steps to fix it. Sometimes difficult to find out how with firearm purchase denial. The HCP process, as I understand it, actually tells you exactly what the prob was, but of course takes a good while (not to mention the price of the school and the fee). Maybe the gun purchase appeal tell you the problem, too, can't remember? - OS

What will you do on the day after tomorrow?
Ill be turning in applications, still trying to find a job that isn't construction labor. Doesnt really matter who wins or loses this time, all we are doing is voting the lesser of two evils.
Remember you said that 10-20 years down the road after the BHO loaded Supreme Court has crimped your style. Not to mention all the lesser federal judge appointments that may affect it first. - OS -
Federal law states that in a given conversation, face to face, only one of the parties needs to know the conversation is being recorded. State law follows this. In audio(phone or radio) recording the non recording person must be advised.
My understanding is that federal law only requires consent of one of the parties (ie yourself), as far as phone conversation. 10 or 12 states require all party notification -- but TN is not one of them. - OS
There was a woman in Pittburgh, this morning who showed up at the polls and tried to vote, but was turned down and the official said she had already voted. It hit the radio and TV pretty fast. Someone was up to no good in their town. I haven't heard any more on it, yet.
I've wished I could show up on election day and see if I could vote after having done it early, just to spot check the system. As I understand it, the fact that I could be charged with a felony sort of prevents that, though. - OS
FOX News on the TV is about all I'll pay attention to, other than Drudge. There are too many places to choose from.
I have become somewhat addicted to flipping back and forth between Fox and MSNBC. If Romney wins, I'll probably watch a lot of MSNBC for a couple days, just gotta see the dejection of Sharpton, Matthews, Shultz, Maddow, etc. That would be a thrill up MY leg! - OS
... I think I understand that different precincts use different machines, but in mine the "administrator" swiped a card on the machine to "activate it, and then you just vote. I assumed you would have to enter some unique ID that could only be used once into the machine, and then vote. ..
Yep, that does seem to be at least a technical avenue for fraud. In Knox County, our machines do indeed require a (I assume unique) 4 digit number for each voter. It's generated on another machine just before you hit the voting booth. - OS

VA polls close at 7. Might well be indicative of the whole shebang. Certainly if Mitt loses it, likely suggests he loses it all. If he wins it, get out more popcorn and beer! Course, realistically, if it's close, might be who knows when before we'll know. - OS

A Last Minute Appeal To Libertarians And Non-Voters
Oh Shoot replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Unfortunately, the majority of people who are eligible to vote won't bother to do so
Close. About 55% probably will. - OS -
I could have misread the OP, but I think he is asking why you must "pay for" the gun and then have the check done, vs having the check done and then pay for it.
Ah, duh. Yeah, most places run check first. Big box stores like WalMart, Dicks, Academy all do separate transactions for the background check first. Some places don't even take the background money in hand first, seems like the last couple I did at Bill's Outpost didn't. - OS
-
But why is it a requirement to purchase a gun, then have a background check done?
Because it has been a federal law since 1993. Dealer will give money back if denied. Less the ten clams for the background check. - OS
-
Exactly. Prior to 2012 you only had to show a voter registration card in Tennessee. Making people show a government issued photo ID card is relatively recent.
I'm still looking around to verify, but seems that really most any ID with address on it would suffice. At least since I was a young man. And actually, maybe it didn't even have to have address on it. Like library card, which became an issue just recently as part of the appeal on the new law. - OS
.... Michigan has been Blue for 20 years so it would take a pretty major shift to change that.
Well, he'll likely do better than most there due to his dad and being a Michigan boy and all, but yeah,Michigan ain't supposed to be even remotely in play for him. Especially after the latest "Jeep to China" debacle. - OS
It wasn't all that long ago (last year) that we were one of those states. Do you think we were a hotbed of voter fraud right up until this election? Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with requiring identification, but I don't think it's going to be a huge problem. Besides it's New York. We already know who will take NY, just like we all know who will take TN.
I've been voting since the 60's, seems I've always had to show something? At least voter registration card? I don't recall ever showing up and simply being able to announce my name? Isn't our newest law only about official picture ID? - OS
-
From what I'm reading here (the actual Executive Order) I don't see anything about identification, just that he's allowing any registered voter to vote in any polling place, since the one they're supposed to use may or may not currently be functional. Or is there another one I'm unaware of?
Dunno, but NY doesn't require any kind of ID to vote, photo or otherwise. Does that mean they have to have voter registration card? Well, that would be an ID. How the frig does that work in those states, people just show up and claim to be themselves verbally only? According to Wiki summary, about 20 states require no ID whatsoever: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_ID_Laws_in_the_United_States - OS
