The further complication of that for service people, is that full time duty assignment counts same as state of permanent residence of record under federal law to an FFL. But I personally would be pretty leery about personally selling any firearm to a "guy from San Diego", regardless of where he (says he) is stationed. Even with some military paperwork to show, that's just a complicated area I wouldn't want to get into as a private seller. - OS

Well, if the present bill is simply resubmitted with date changes, both issues are already spelled out, so don't see likelihood of much debate, either the majority leaders of both chambers get behind it or they don't. The existing bill does not change the definition of "firearm" in US 18 921, so a silencer would remain one. The original push felt it was a bridge too far to actually try to make them just normal consumer items, probably that won't change. - OS

Thanks for the update. I'm wondering if your root cause of restlessness in life may be simply due to a clinical case of paragraphphobia. - OS

Point was he wouldn't have been back in to do it 'cept for my intercessions on his behalf. Total Jekyll and Hyde dude, you just couldn't see it being with him in person. But yeah, at least it was epic before he got nuked for good. So epic that I saved part of it: ============================= "TGO IS FULL OF SISSIFIED PANZIES When I got banned from here by Enfield the queer I joined the FN FAL files seeing as I had just bought a BGS kit. I have come to realize that this forum is filled with a bunch of flower picking sissies who cannot take a joke, wimper at the slightest hint of a heated debate and show a habitual inability to make decisions of their own volition. I am embarassed to be a member of this group of ass-clown sissies, please ban me forever and delete my entire history, all posts, threads, and any related material. What a disgrace to Manhood. Most Sincerely and with great conviction. R Jolly" =========================== And that was after I helped get him reinstated for previous rants. And then after that second ban, he actually emailed me again to beg forgiveness and to express that to everyone on TGO. I told him he probably needed some kind of help, but not from me. A piece of work indeed. - OS

Well, pretty sure he was the enraged pizza thrower ... if he'd just show up once a year with something equally epic ... - OS

I have some off and on too, never remembered on which brands I've seen it. Always figgered it was just due to some crimping process used and never paid it any mind. I don't reload, so dunno if it causes any extra difficulty in that regard? - OS

Or after gleaning advice to get just what you need, just buy all the components and offer dinner and beer for someone in your area to come over and show ya how to assemble everything. That seems to work every time somebody asks here. The only ticklish quirk you want is that A2 sight on a barrel shorter than the 10.5" range, so that will take some hunting to find the shorter than norm handguard so you can put a "dead" one on the front. (I admit I was surprised that there actually is one commercially available like that). That Oly config, once you add shipping/FFL, a good carry handle, whatever, you're in for over $900, and you could probably do same for 5 bills or so if you pick up components over a couple months finding best prices/sales and come out with at least as good and likely higher quality than Oly at same time. And 6.5" 5.56, I dunno, even a 7.5" can be touchy for a lot of folks to get reliable -- and they're all loud, but whew, that extra inch less is gonna be uber decibel punishing, not to mention 2200 fps or less velocity. On the third hand, if you'd settle for a 10.5, watch the sales at PSA, pick up a complete lower and complete upper, slap them together, add the carry handle, and you've got everything you want for 600 or so, easy peasy, reliable, at least as good a quality as the Oly. You could do the same with 7.5-8" config from there too, but you wouldn't get the A2 front sight base, and it would have some kind of railed free float handguard that runs past the gas block almost to very end of barrel, not room to add a "dead" one just for the sight. You could change the handguard to some shortie and add on an A2 front sight, and still come out significantly cheaper than that Oly, but would take some hands on. - OS

Well, that part is certainly not true as far as possession/carry. Before the HCP process, for about 25 years there was no legal way short of being a crony "honorary deputy" for the average joe to legally possess a firearm even in his vehicle, let alone on the person in general public. So that has actually come a long way toward firearm freedom, with some significant recent changes thrown in even for non-permit holders. But one thing, it was looser until sometime in the 70's regarding guns in autos, forget which year, but the days of legally having the rifle or shotgun in the back window did indeed go away. As far as places to shoot, growing up, I don't think "official" ones of any kind were any more prevalent. The difference is that back then we simply weren't so crowded a state, and there was a bigger choice of "unofficial" places to shoot, either city/county/state unimproved land where they didn't really care, and also the fact the most everybody knew somebody with private land who didn't care either. Now, the larger expanses of private land are in fewer hands, and of course city/county lands are mostly "full" of something. There's a lot less empty "there" anywhere. I think you are right about state lands however, they have clamped down on that a lot more, only allowing it at their dedicated ranges. But yeah, we are far from deserving the "Patron State of Shooting Stuff" moniker anymore in that particular regard. The folks who can shoot out west on the vast tracks of federal land have more of a claim to that IMHO. - OS

A rare config from a manufacturer, know of nothing like it available these days. As I mentioned, to get the A2 sight base, they've either cut down a longer carbine gas barrel somehow or other, (edit: wouldn't work, carbine gas port is 7" from breech and that's stated as a 6.5" barrel) , but more likely added a superfluous A2, with the actual gas block being a low profile one under the handguard on the pistol gas length port location. - OS

Well, I've never seen a removable one without the "knobs", but maybe some knobs are smaller than others. At any rate, then just get the contemporary complete upper you like, and add the carry handle. Now, if you also want the traditional A2 block/sight base, you won't find that on a 7.5" upper. Mainly because putting it on a pistol gas port wouldn't leave you with enough handguard to get your hand around in the first place. So you'll just need to add some front sight that matches up with the carry handle, or if possible depending on handguard config, add a "fake" A2 sight base to the barrel in front of the handguard. A2 block/base common on 10.5" carbine gas uppers though, including both of mine, if you were willing to go that length, easy peasy, just add the carry handle instead of any other rear sights. - OS
-
Yes, removable carry handle as per pic will work? Or no, it won't? - OS
-
Simple removable carry handle on standard upper wouldn't do the same for ya? Btw, I don't know anyone who makes one, let alone a 7.5 incher with an A1 FSB if you wanted that too. - OS

"According to the FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer, Black Friday shattered the single-day record for gun sales – with 185,713 background checks processed in a 24 hour period. Fischer told Business Insider that nearly 400 more transactions were processed on Black Friday than in 2015. Sorry to see some of this reached all the way down to Wears Valley, 70 homes destroyed there. I probably delivered to any number of them back during my FedEx Ground stint. - OS

That was link to online Bud's, not the brick and mortar stores in TN or KY if that's what you mean. Pricing and inventory are not the same. - OS

Don't really know much about them, but I've also got a Vizio with bar and just remote subwoofer, pretty darn good seems, 'bout $125 or so at Sam's best I remember. - OS

Tara sure got chunky in the "two weeks" since the raid on the Savior compound, eh? (In reality, she had a baby since her last appearance in an episode). - OS

An FFL can sell a long gun to an 18 year old. As per both federal and TN law you may sell a long gun or handgun or other firearm to an 18 year old. Your hand wringing is silly. What would you be charged with by exactly following the law? - OS
