Holy AK/AR!!!!!! Have you looked at Gunbroker prices today??!!?
Oh Shoot replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
eBay's listing filters aren't up to snuff of these, apparently. It's obvious they can't end them fast enough manually. Wonder if they will nuke the sellers accounts after the fact for the ones that make it to completion? - OS -
Starting to sound likely Boehner won't be Speaker much longer. We'll see if they go more conservative or the other way. The House is the heaviest lift on this, the 94 AWB only passed by 2 votes and the House was heavily Dem controlled at the time. This is not to say they won't pass something or other in these crazy times, though. - OS

Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
Oh Shoot replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Under 5A seems they could take your AR as a result of due process of law easier than could make a case for mandatory sale, as this would need to be private property taken for public use. Maybe they could trump it up if they claimed they were giving them all to the military or something, or melt them down for bridges. But I doubt that. However, let's not put the cart in front of the horse: the AWB of '94 only passed the House by two votes, and an in overwhelming Dem controlled House at that. But like you, I find it quite unnerving, mainly because these times seem unprecedented in so many ways. - OS -
If you get hooked, worst time ever to buy one! :) - OS

Yeah, everybody got all pissed off around here, but after the Fair went off okay, it sort of became a source of pride. Used to be lots of "proud to live in the scruffy little city" and similar tee shirts and whatnot. - OS
-
They wear shoes now before the Christmas break? :) Seriously, Knoxville got dubbed "that Scruffy Little City" by a NY Times writer who wrote a series about us bumpkins putting on the World's Fair in '82. - OS

question, answer please...(gun shop buying from wal-mart)
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in General Chat
Seemed like half the gunshow ammo offered in 2007-9 came from Walmart. - OS -
Ah, like me, another optimist. :) - OS
-
The time zone clue would be that was in response to a feller in Tri-Cities. :) And you don't know where the Scruffy Little City is? Where in hell were you educated? ;) - OS

They might just be self-perpetuating progressive machines, no use for thinking homo sapiens. Just like half of the country now. - OS

Midnight here is only 11pm in Maya Land, so we'd have to wait an extra hour for the doom watch to start according to their time. After all, they were very precise, them aliens ain't gonna show up early. - OS
-
Correct. So when I posted that at 10:30pm, tomorrow in CST time was 2.5 hours away for us in EST, oui? - OS

If you're still in E. TN, it's not tomorrow yet. Most of Mayan time zone tomorrow will in 2.5 more hours. - OS

About 6 or 8 months ago. But only 10 rounders, which is why said might be on thin ice with the "adapters". And sure enough, they zapped it. They're allowing a variety of stuff they previously banned. - OS -
That's a often given cute observation, but the fact is that Maya civilization had collapsed and dispersed a couple hundred years before the Spanish ever arrived. It was the Aztec people that the conquistadors decimated, and later the Inca too. - OS

How have you reacted personally? Bought guns? Mags? Ammo?
Oh Shoot replied to hipower's topic in General Chat
Exactly the attitude that has helped lead to our lost firearm rights so far. Hope your shotgun and handgun don't hold more than one round each .. that'll come around on the guitar eventually, once they're banned all the things you don't care about. And if your handgun holds more than ten rounds, this time around may affect you. - OS -
Son asked me a question to settle an argument
Oh Shoot replied to Chas.'s topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Essentially yes, you are correct. TN weapons law is rather wacky that way. Not only can you shoot him with the loaded weapon you are not supposed to have, but you are not to be charged for unlawful carry if you do so in a justified shoot to protect yourself or another. Of course, getting caught with it in the car in general, you risk up to a year in the slammer and/or a fine of $5000. Thus the wisdom of our exalted legislature here is, I suppose, that if you pack a loaded gun in your vehicle without a permit, you are also encouraged to find a bad guy? ;) - OS -
Three Reasons Gun Control Isn't Going to Happen
Oh Shoot replied to R_Bert's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
On the optimistic side, the '94 AWB was passed by only 2 votes in the House, and it was an Dem controlled House. And many of those Dems paid the price two months later in the midterm election. On the not so optimistic side, even though the House is GOP controlled now, the party ain't what it used to be, the electorate ain't what it used to be, and I'm not sure it's so automatic for a lot these RINOS to assume they'll be deposed in two years if they knuckle under. Then again, many may already see the handwriting on the wall swinging the other way in 2 years, too, so might vote to assuage what they perceive as their now more progressive constituency. Or not, might toe more of the conservative line if they feel they're toast anyway. Certainly the only sure votes to forestall this will be from those who are certain that doing so is a plus for their reelection, barring the perhaps 1 in 10 (if that) that might actually vote with a conscience toward the Constitution. It's also difficult to estimate exact GOP constituency in regard to this, too. Certainly the Tea Party inspired newbies are staunchly fiscal zealots, and talk a good game about personal responsibility vs the nanny state, but I don't know if this fervor extends to the same degree with firearm rights. At any rate, with the GOP not even able to organize a clear consensus on the fiscal cliff strategy right now, I'm not sure it can orchestrate a circle jerk with any degree of solidarity, let alone a unified hard core 2A stand. Which is all to say, I just honestly barely recognize this country anymore, and don't feel confident in predicting any outcome of all this. - OS -
I'm not "okay" with the laws we already have. Talking real world worst case scenarios here, and I'm no Spartacus. Echo Mike and Robert's responses. - OS

Know what? Fact he tried to buy the gun at Dick's? -- well documented by investigation, covered to death. Okay, "they" could be lying. Pick your reason. :tinfoil: Fact that you can't buy a gun online from Dick's -- ever try it? - OS

Possibly a whole lot for sale down the road should an AWB pass, depending on what burden could be placed on us to keep them. - OS

I'll do National Park part, it's fairly easy :) The federal statute is quite terse, and only says: "Protecting the Right of Individuals To Bear arms in Units of the National Park System and the National Wildlife Refuge System- The Secretary of the Interior shall not promulgate or enforce any regulation that prohibits an individual from possessing a firearm including an assembled or functional firearm in any unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System if-- (1) the individual is not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing the firearm; and (2) the possession of the firearm is in compliance with the law of the State in which the unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System is located." (there is probably a CFR part that goes along with this USC, that may have more specific info, but I've not run across it yet). --------------- So in a nutshell as I understand it, and having never found anything to the contrary, you may carry according to the laws of the state in which the Park resides, and the statute only says "firearm" In TN that means a loaded handgun only, open or concealed, with a TN HCP or a permit that TN honors (which is all of them). No loaded long gun on your person. Which is to say, no long gun period for any practical purpose, as an unloaded long gun with ammo on your for it is still a loaded gun under the definitions. May have loaded long gun in vehicle with HCP, sans one in chamber. In NC, that means a concealed loaded handgun with NC permit or a permit NC honors (which includes TN), or a loaded handgun carried openly with no permit. However, don't know NC laws regarding long guns, or what is considered a "loaded" one. Note as you walk parts of the Appy Trail, it may be quite unclear which state you are actually in! Note also that most buildings inside National Parks are federal facilities, and still no carry in them by federal law. They are supposed to be posted. Note also, that at least a couple of parks are apparently ruled as almost entirely "federal facility" and marked no carry (Carlsbad Caverns, Mammoth Cave) maybe more. - OS

Wild. 10 round mags but with "kits" to make them 30 as I seem to read it? Dunno, he might be on thin ice with that. I put it on watch list to see how it turns out. - OS -

Yeah, damn black rifles. Just so happened I had started my last project, a "3 gun kit", by buying AR 5.56 pistol upper at last gun show, before the shooting in CT. But admit I hurried up and bought a 5.56 rifle upper for this project a few days ago, since PSA had the one I wanted for the same price as usual, but also admit if it hadn't been for the panic I would have bided my time on that and waited for a possible sale. Also grabbed some extra mags I wouldn't otherwise have, also at same normal price though. Hope I can look back on the last two purchases and grin for being a bit gullible for rushing the timeline. Main lesson learned is that I should NOT own any AR lowers laying around gathering dust, 'cause I apparently can NOT just let them sit there and do that! - OS -
Well, they were the store that turned him down on a purchase, we know that. Btw, they really couldn't have broken a law via shipping, because they don't ship at all, except maybe store to store. You can't buy a gun online and have it shipped to your own FFL. - OS
