  1.   You gotta be kiddin'. Hitler?   This an attempt to invoke Godwin's Law?     - OS
  2.   Well, again, even if you bought two handguns at once, you still probably wouldn't know about it just because you did that.   Yeah, fairly big stink over the border states rifle reporting thing, but it died down pert quick too.   - OS
  3.   Been a rule for a good long while, couldn't tell ya when it started. Not just more than one handgun at a time, but also two or more in same week. Obviously, the FFL could only know if you got them all from him.   Since the buyer has no input into the additional report, there's no reason a buyr would necessarily ever know about it.   - OS
  4.   Hmm. Just as in our own constitution, you won't find "Christian" or "Jesus" mentioned anywhere in the literature, you know?   Baden-Powell never promoted it as a Christian organization to begin with and there are numerous official Scout populations in non-Christian countries. Indeed, Indonesia has the largest number of Scouts and is 90% Muslim so presumably the scouting population there would be at least that also.   Like you and I chose to be straight?  Thank goodness our goobers agreed with our "decisions", eh? - OS
  5.   56% is certainly about the highest I've seen for NRA, and some under 50%, as far as any that aren't obviously biased by virtue of the source. Gallup showing 54 positive in late Dec, latest I can find for example. I'll bet it's lower next time.   As I said, I find that disheartening.   - OS
  6.   No way. It's withheld income you already filed on coming back to you.   If you did that, not only have you loaned the government interest free money, but you've claimed the same dollars as income in two different years.   Tell me you're not doing that?   - OS
  7.   One day at a time here for over 15 years brother.   - OS
  8.   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/57992-response-from-lamar-alexander/?hl=alexander   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/58153-lamar-alexanders-response-a-bit-better/?hl=alexander   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/58170-i-got-this-reply-from-senator-alexanders-office/?hl=alexander   I'd say if you haven't "heard" from him, you haven't you know "contacted" him?   If you mean regarding this letter, this was from the House.   - OS
  9.   Reckon he's lying about metro Bon Aqua?  :)
  10.   Oh, if you mean Feinstein's bill, I have no doubt about that,  also pretty sure nothing anywhere near that sweeping is even getting out of the Senate either. This time around.   That doesn't minimize my concern that our only significant champion over both the short and long run, the NRA, is losing ground in overall influence, and that is at least partially due presently to its (as Baker said, "ill advised") PR since Sandy Hook.   All that said,  I'm also pretty sure we'll see some primarily feel-good legislation succeed before the end of the 113th. And I'll opine as I have all along, even before the last election, it will be the universal background check thang. Which yes, will be another erased line in the sand, and of course if it includes permanent registration database, a huge loss of one of the most basic principles of 2A preservation itself.   But don't shoot the messenger if I'm right, OK?   - OS
  11. Looks like just Roe, Blackburn, and Duncan from TN   Only 77 of 432 currently installed.   Assuming they are all GOP, so that's also only 77 of 232.   Not all that rosy, seems.     - OS
  12. DeadFish already excoriated in thread here:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/59484-is-this-even-legal-rahm-emanuel-and-chicago-banks/
  13.   Yeah, I don't like indoor ranges at all, for this and other reasons.   Even with enough ear protection so that I'm absolutely protected, there's still an overall concussive sensation I find disturbing.   - OS
  14. Aug, Leroy, RichardR....   Foregoing any long rebuttal, we simply disagree about the best way to win. I'm not talking about appeasement, erasing any lines in the sand, or compromise from a position of weakness or desperation.   I'm simply stating the fact that short of all out insurrection, our crooked mouthpieces both on state and federal level will determine the real world extent of our 2A rights, and measures that drive folks away from your cause are counterproductive, as they petition those same crooks we do.   The degree to which that has happened thus far from NRA's PR tactics is obviously largely unquantifiable, so "opining" is just that, but  public polls I've seen are quite disheartening regarding the national perception of NRA, and how much that has changed over a relatively short period of time.   Don't act like I'm not on the same side here. Hell, since '07, NRA gets more of my donations annually than any other cause I give to, so it's not like I don't put my money where my mouth is, as it were. I just don't think they've been very effective since Sandy Hook in the most visible way of playing the game in order to win it   - OS
  15.   Well, yeah, there's the "opt out" ("cop out") option there too, a way of  releasing locals from the preemption of the preemption.   Only in weapons law does TN set all these laws, but then allow them not to be binding under various guises. I guess this is the natural outcome if you start with the unconstitutional basic premise that possessing a loaded gun is illegal.   - OS
  16.   Depends if the state law claims preemption or not over the particular area of law.   Just an example in firearms law: in TN they are preempted so that local laws cannot override them, unless grandfathered in before 1986. But it some states they are not, which is how Chicago, NYC,  and other cities can have more restrictive laws than the state ones.   Even in TN where we have firearm law preemption, it does not extend to all weapons. Knives, most prominently. A city or county can ban knives that are allowed under state law because there's no preemption in the state statutes for knives.   - OS
  17.   Yep, I was over the road bedbugger for about a year and half in a far ago incarnation. Safe wouldn't be a prob. A lot easier than grand piano, or even full size upright, commercial size freezer, etc. I hauled several heavy safes, too, though none were gun safes.   If dropping at a home, I'd pick up labor to help, from local moving agent if possible, from Manpower and similar if not. Never had a significant claim, except for one disaster with a sizable chandelier :)   - OS
  18.   Ah, but you couldn't have come up with it without the years of influence from Carnac the Magnificent, eh?   - OS
  19.   Ah, most elucidating. Nonetheless, the way it's used now as "dweeb" or "idiot" or "nut case" doesn't really logically follow from that, unless we used it to mean "evildoer", or "tyrant" or somesuch.   Hey, Elmer Fudd was even referred to as a nimrod, but not as the pejorative; and may have been where I first heard the word to look up as a kidnick.   - OS
  20.   That has also been stated by at least one attorney onsite. The "and" in the sentence makes it quite different from an "or". Also "none of such convictions" rather than "no convictions".   Assuming TNDOS honors the actual wording of the statute, you should be able to get an HCP right now if you have no other disqualifying issues.   I seem to remember that at least one person reported that he did indeed get his HCP under similar DUI circumstances, but I can't swear to it, as I am getting on up there. :)   - OS   edit: report on the outcome, however long it takes, okay?
  21.   Nimrod has never worked for me, and don't even understand how it came  to be a pejorative in the first place.   It has meant "hunter" in standard language like forever. Since it comes from Nimrod, a grandson of Noah, mentioned in Genesis and elsewhere therein.   - OS
  22.   Depends. We have plenty of wacky ones just for the rank and file gun owner.   And seems that even if a felon gets the rest of his rights restored federally or in any state, TN still won't recognize the firearm part of that restoration.   - OS
  23.   Flash hider slips on over front sight, held with set screw. It's a total affectation of course, but I was worried about the killer ground hogs being able to pinpoint my position. ;)  Really, I don't think it does anything at all.   I think I paid about $65 for the folder back when but of course they've gone up, looks like $80-100, come in blued and stainless; I sold the original birch stock that came with it on eBay or here, can't remember,  for about $35 to defray it. It happened to have a particularly attractive grain pattern almost burl looking on one side, although $35 is on the low end these days on eBay, seems.   http://www.bing.com/search?q=butler+creek+folding+stock+10%2F22&form=OSDSRC   - OS
  24.   Mine would work fine for that at 200 yards, and I'm not much of a shot. I've even heard rumors some people who get to shoot at longer ranges can at least double that. :)   Oops, I hope they don't read this.   - OS
