  1. What does "denied" mean? What about all the folks that are temporarily denied, overturned on appeal?  That mean they're on the database?   - OS
  2.   Tax Act will do it. Will walk you through every tax facet possible in life and generate every IRS tax schedule that exists. The only things it won't do is cheat or make math errors. :)   - OS
  3.   I have indeed noticed that.   If of course I didn't believe in the overall integrity of the news gathering profession in the United States, I could almost conjecture that there exists some sort of shared group ethos, nay even an actual agenda, toward social change involving firearm legislation. But of course that would be tin foil hat territory, so I recoil from such an absurd viewpoint.   - OS
  4.   I'm about ready to cut all wires leading into the condo and take my camping gear and guns and buy some land in the place of least density in TN and dig a tornado bunker and ... oh wait.   Maybe I better just sleep on it. ;)   - OS
  5.   Creates about a murky 5-10 year path to permanent residency and a 20 year path to citizenship. If one does this thing and that thing and pays this thing and that thing and ...oh yeah, and actually wants to do it.   Most will just go ahead and die of old age as Mexican nationals, leaving two generations of American born progeny behind them as they go. Half or more of which we'll pay to either educate or run continually through the criminal justice system.   And of course creates a new giant untenable nightmare of bureaucracy added to the existing unworkable nightmare of bureaucracy. Probably cost every citizen in America an additional quarter a day essentially forever.   And does anybody really believe the border will be "closed" first? Or at all? Hah.   Other than all that it ought to work swell.   - OS
  6.   If he's making you do any kind of form,  he's deluded, or just being an ahole.   And if he's making you do anything mentioned on this page   http://pe.usps.com/text/pub52/pub52c4_009.htm   then he's doubling down on being one of the above.   Absolutely no form is required for you to ship an unloaded long gun with no ammo included through USPS, interstate to a licensee, or intrastate to anyone not prohibited from possessing a firearm. Or even to yourself in care of another person intrastate OR interstate. (but could be trouble if you didn't eventually show up there to get it personally, especially on he interstate part. :))   - OS
  7.   It doesn't, that covers security guards working for the school district, not working for a third party.   I think I disagree. :)   because the exception right before the one cited above is for:   "Any private police employed by the administration or board of trustees of any public or private institution of higher education in the discharge of their duties"   And the one I cited doesn't mention needing to be hired by the school.   So are you gonna make me look at 62-35 for a more informed opinion, or are you? :)   (I'm really missing FallGuy in this forum!) ;)   - OS
  8. As bad as all that is, the real nightmare is shipping intrastate individual to individual.   USPS allows this by terms on long guns, FedEx TOS doesn't allow it for any gun, UPS TOS allows it for long guns and handguns, but handguns by TOS must go overnight no matter where you ship. And though UPS "allows" that, best of luck depending on clerk, or phase of the moon, or maybe how you hold your mouth, or something.   Fortunately, the few long guns or handguns I've had to send in the last 6 years or so have always gone to  FFL for repair, so I've just printed my own paid UPS label and dropped at UPS Store. No prob if you have an account to do your own label, drop and go.   I'm not breaking federal law, which only requires notification for shipment to non-licensee, but admit that is against UPS TOS which requires notification also. Oh well, can't go to Leavenworth for that.   Oh, and I have sent a rifle the same way through USPS, print paid label, package all ready to go, drop it on counter and split. As USPS does NOT require notification and if going to an FFL, neither does federal law.   - OS
  9.   Thing is, it's a monthly subscription, it's either x number a month, or nada.   I think it's a heck of a deal myself, but I don't have to shave regularly enough anymore to utilize the 5 a month of the cheapest. Even though it's only $3/month, I'd be stockpiling them.   - OS
  10. Well, from reading other blurbs, the money has been sort of coming in at different times, and maybe more than just those three check representations, and something about Chicago coughing up part of Oak Park's share, etc. Think they finally got it all total just recently enough to get in this issue of the mag. Or something like that. And btw, for those who don't get American Rifleman, the cover is rather dramatic, and SIEGE is certainly appropriate, cause this is gonna be a long term thing: - OS
  11. This is so great, I can't tell you how great I think it is, it's so great. :) Lots of blurbs on the web here and there, but nowhere better than this in American Rifleman, so I just scanned the thing. And the priceless part is that Rahm "DeadFish" Emanuel had to sign some of the checks personally!! (click on pic to expand to full size to read it): - OS
  12.   And though I vouch for the federal part, as it walks you through every little minute aspect if you like, or lets you dance around if you're an ace, again, I don't vouch for the state module, unless it's been improved. I just download that form from the TN site and do it by hand, since you can't efile with TN anyway.   - OS
  13.   Better not be >4" blades, man. Class A 'meanor right here in ole Tennersee.
  14.   Well, they won't ship for two weeks, so maybe prices will come down so that the buyers have to wind up selling them back at cost.
  15.   I'm planning on under the desk and the scissors. Cause that's right, I'm bad.
  16.   Ah, the .org,  by the original guy, I believe. You're not promoting it or anything, s'ok methinks ...     Thankee, I'm proud to still have any thoughts at all. ;)     Frankly yeah. As crazed as the bill is, it's pretty clear what "pistol grip" is intended as within it. Hell, half the people that are willing to vote for it probably have a rifle or shotgun with the kind of "pistol grip" you're talking about. Matter of fact, to pretty much prove it, the same "pistol grip" wording was in the '94 ban, and they didn't of course come into play.   - OS
  17.   Good Lord, that's significantly worse than usual.
  18.   Absolutely. It and its predecessor, The Naked Ape are classics.  Couple of the real rarities used in education but are fascinating reads also. Ape is more famous I guess.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Morris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Naked_Ape http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Human_Zoo_%28book%29   Lewis Thomas and Carl Sagan are probably a bit more "entertaining" but Morris ain't bad, and I'm not kidding that Human Zoo may explain a lot about our crumbling and divisive (and violent) society.   - OS
  19.   Howdy...first time I've seen ya, you've been a skillful lurker :)   No way this thing is gonna pass, I'll eat your hat if it even gets to a vote in the Senate, at least in any semblance of what it is now.   But you know, worst case, you get to keep what you have.   Which HighRoad is the HighRoad these days, I haven't kept up with the saga of the two?   - OS
  20.   Saying he was a student, dunno about her for sure.   Saying she was shot in back of neck now. Or not. Maybe from two different schools.   Forget it for awhile., Same mishmash of mostly wrong stuff for now seems.
  21.   14 year old girl shot in head in the way, or the target?   - OS
  22.   I assure you that you "qualify" for the free federal version of Tax Act:   http://www.taxact.com/taxes-online/free-online-tax.asp?s=OLSTD   There is a charge for the state module, though.   - OS
  23. Anybody ever read The Human Zoo, by Desmond Morris?   I think the psychoses from crowded modern life are coming to light.   - OS
  24. One of the exceptions in  39-17-1309 (firearms/schools) is:   " Any registered security guard/officer who meets the requirements of title 62, chapter 35, and who is discharging the officer's official duties."   (I didn't look at 62-35 to research further, but I'll bet it covers it)   - OS
