Former LAPD officer subject of manhunt.
Oh Shoot replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Took their vehicle and fled, chased, wrecked, apparently gun fight out in the woods. Maybe two LEOs wounded. Apparent standoff situation right now out in the snowy landscape. - OS -
All 18 of S&W's 5.56 AR rifles are called M&P15, btw. - OS

HB118/SB142: Current "parking lot" legislation
Oh Shoot replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
"Notwithstanding" means "despite anything to the contrary" or "regardless of". Meaning that the statutes mentioned do not override this one. Meaning school property is included in the right to stash your heater. Question has been raised, does that still allow any "non student adult" to do the same, or now allow only permit holders to do so? Of course, the existing one seems quite gray as to loaded status of firearm, whereas this one isn't. Except this one requires the gun to be locked up and existing one doesn't. I would be of the opinion that the previous exception is still legit, myself. - OS -
I got that same impression when I first read it some time ago, wondered if it had been "resourced" for opposite purpose. - OS

Sport or PSA, depending on pricing, of course. Sport has a barrel that is only otherwise offered on higher end M&P 15 models, sort of a mystery how it went into production as standard on the Sport. Informal shooting indicates my Sport is my most accurate AR. I have two (mostly) PSA AR's also, and they use excellent FN made barrels, and all the rest of the components are more than fine also, including their mil-spec handle/sight you mention (whoever actually makes it). Lord help ya if you need to deal with PSA CS right now though, SW has that aspect beat hands down. - OS

I watch MSNBC prime time some -- Matthews, Shultz, Maddow, and O'Donnell are invaluable for keeping me well aware of the unrelenting assault on all fronts from the left. - OS

Shooting in Delaware, 3 dead, 2 wounded
Oh Shoot replied to billyscott's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Never seen one of these stories go so long without identifying type of gun. Must be something really boring, like "not EBR", "not Glock". Maybe he used a (gasp) revolver? - OS -
From their FaceBook page: "In addition to the national battle to protect our firearms rights, many states are currently engaged in their own fights. Here in CO, a state with a strong heritage of firearm and other personal freedoms, we are facing some extreme challenges to firearms rights. We have been engaged in dialogue with legislators here presenting our arguments to stop legislation from even being introduced, but our efforts did not deter those of extreme views. After the NRAs visit last week, several anti-freedom bills were introduced by CO legislators, and a very aggressive timeline has been set forth in moving these bills forward. The bills include: HB 1229, Background checks for Gun Transfers--a measure to prohibit private sales between CO residents, and instead require a full FFL transfer, including a 4473. HB 1228, Payment for Background Checks for Gun Transfers-- a measure that would require CO residents to pay for the back logged state-run CBI system (currently taking 3 times the federally mandated wait time for checks to occur) instead of using the free federal NICS checks. And finally, HB 1224, Prohibiting Large Capacity Ammunition Magazines--a measure that bans the possession, sale, or transfer of magazines over 10 round capacity. The measures and stipulations in this bill would deprive CO residents of the value of their private property by prohibiting the sale or transfer of all magazines over 10 rounds. This bill would also prohibit manufacture of magazines greater than 10 rounds for commercial sale out of the state, and place restrictions on the manufacture of military and law enforcement magazines that would cripple production. We'd like to ask all CO residents to please contact your state legislators and the members of the Judiciary Committee and urge them to kill these measures in committee, and to vote NO if they reach the floor. We also ask you to show your support for the 2nd Amendment at the Capitol on Tuesday, Feb 12, for the magazine ban committee hearing and Wednesday, Feb 13, for the hearing on the other measures. Due to the highly restrictive language in HB 1224, if passed, and we remained here, this measure would require us to cease PMAG production on July 1, 2013. In short, Magpul would be unable to remain in business as a CO company, and the over 200 jobs for direct employees and nearly 700 jobs at our subcontractors and suppliers would pick up and leave CO. Due to the structure of our operations, this would be entirely possible, hopefully without significant disruption to production. The legislators drafting these measures do so in spite of the fact that nothing they are proposing will do anything to even marginally improve public safety in CO, and in fact, will leave law-abiding CO residents less able to defend themselves, strip away rights and property from residents who have done nothing wrong, and send nearly 1000 jobs and millions in tax revenue out of the state. We like CO, we want to continue to operate in CO, but most of all, we want CO to remain FREE. Please help us in this fight, and let your voices be heard! Mom & Pop Local Gun Stores, Are They @ Financial Risk?
Oh Shoot replied to runco's topic in General Chat
That's not not necessarily a gouge price on a M&P AR right now,. unless it's a quite used Sport, maybe. New Sports were mostly ~800 and up after the election even before Sandy Hook and of course most of the M&P AR line was $850-1400 even back in normal times. Any $1000 AR at the last gun show I went to, you'd have been trampled by buyers. Or maybe the AR market is finally becoming saturated, even though most folks still looking can't find one. Hell, you can't even find the pieces to frigging build one, and if by some miracle you do, it's gonna be that $1K at the very least. - OS -
squirrel hunting strategy and tactics
Oh Shoot replied to Fire/hunting guy's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Shore wuz. Hell, I don't even remember us ever having a stove, just did it with pot on a piece of grill on rocks over a fire. Mostly up in Tellico, got about run out of camp by a buncha pigs one time just about dark. Could tell the rest of that story but don't know what the statute of limitations is on poaching (sort of accidental). :) - OS -
Even though the statute is titled "unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon", the "possession" part only applies to those unable to have a firearm at all. Hence, only carrying the weapon needs a defense for those of us who can legally have a firearm, storage of loaded firearm at home doesn't fall under the first clause, picking it up does. :) However, it's convoluted logic that even under the wording of 1307 that the state has decided that having a firearm in your car at all is "carrying" rather than merely "possessing" as it would be in your home. - OS edit: btw, LexisNexis at http://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/tncode/ has gone dead with FireFox, goes to login no matter what, still behaves okay on IE.

squirrel hunting strategy and tactics
Oh Shoot replied to Fire/hunting guy's topic in Hunting and Fishing
That's the way to really do it right. When I was a kid and camping out, we'd just cut 'em in half, slow boil 'em for a while , throw in a can or two of peas or beans, maybe sliced up onions, spuds, whatever, then lastly drop in strips of canned biscuits for the dumplins. Then eat, very sloppily. - OS -
I usually see ya coming, yeah. ;)
-
Well, it even kicks in your car if you're carrying illegally. Of course, if you actually use your heater in justified self defense or defense of another, you're not charged with any of weapons violations in whole section. So the legislature must be saying, if you carry unlawfully, find a bad guy and off him? - OS
-
Yep. I suppose that on your own property, you technically don't qualify for 1307 until you grasp the loaded firearm or put it on your person. Then you are carrying it. :) - OS
-
Yeah, it's often just a cultural thing. And "culture" can be regional in US too, as folks from cities tend to encroach on space more than rural folks. Also, some folks are for whatever reason more gregarious than others. Touching is another trait that is affected by many variables, too. - OS
-
No, JayC is correct. TCA starts with premise that it is an offense to possess a loaded firearm anywhere in the state of TN, including your home, under 39-17-1307. A loaded firearm = going armed. Having it in your home is simply another defense under 39-17-1308. - OS

Yeah, if abscess is down in root area, pulling it will relieve it. Sometimes you can get abscess on side of tooth you can actually drain yourself, though. If either side of gum looks blue, can often be relieved by pulling gum away from tooth and/or (shudder) sticking needle or knife point into it. Yes, I did this once on a rear wisdom tooth. Was blue on both sides and behind it, and was able to drain it by prying gum away from side until it released the pus. - OS

Shooting in Delaware, 3 dead, 2 wounded
Oh Shoot replied to billyscott's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
No initial mention of what WMD the guy used, which usually means it wasn't an EBR. -
With the Beretta 92, you can hold back on hammer, and watch the decocker move the bar to rotate firing pin plunger out of the picture before releasing it if you like. I suppose most all of the ones mentioned are similar? - OS

It'll all work out...as soon as the USD crashes, they can print all they want and pay off the entire national debt. This is what the world investment machine really fears, the payback in bucks that are worth less than they were when they bought the notes. Something as simple as OPEC demanding payment in something other than USD could cause it nearly overnight, too. - OS

My dream 10/22 (target version) just about complete.
Oh Shoot replied to timthetoolman's topic in Long Guns
I've got the KIDD charging handle group on one my 10/22s also; it does indeed seem to run smoother. Note that it's not a captured assembly, just a bit tougher to get in there, have to be a bit careful not to put crimp in spring. - OS
