  HCP is an "defense" to the law. There are others.   Unlike many states, TN starts with the premise that it's illegal to possess a loaded firearm, period -- and then gives "exceptions" and "defenses" to that. You'll not find a definition of it in TCA, but suffice it to say that possessing a loaded firearm is always "intent to go armed" in TN, simple as that. With other implements that can be used as weapons it becomes a grayer area, but not with firearms. And note that having an unloaded gun, but ammo immediately accessible, let alone on your person, is not "unloaded".   That archaic law you found is duplicated in many cities throughout TN since the 1870's; Knoxville has it also.   Look, you can carry an AR or AK pistol with your HCP, it's perfectly legal.   Just expect to be questioned, asked to see your permit. Maybe even held up while they call in to find out the ruling, etc. All of which is legal also.   - OS

IMHO, David, you need to add one more clarifying rule regarding selling: if offering for cash, price must be stated.   Seeing too many "make me a cash offer" ads. Even in threads that are listed as "trade", some devolve into that. These are de facto auctions when it gets to that point.   Maybe a small nit, but now and then I see something I want, but I don't think it's the intent of the forum to have to "bid" by sending multiple PMs to try and score it.   - OS

I think I'm finally getting inured to the whole thing, for the first time I actually forgot it was on Sunday. Didn't think about it till yesterday.   That was ridiculous that nobody could hit either the Guv, cohort in edge of woods, or guy in tower with a frigging thousand rounds. Any person who shall carry in any manner whatever, with the intent to go armed, any razor, dirk, bowie knife or other knife of like form, shape or size, sword cane, icepick, slingshot, blackjack, brass knuckles, Spanish stiletto, or fountain pen pistol or gun, or like instrument containing a firing pin and capable of shooting tear gas or pistol cartridges, or any pistol or revolver of any kind whatever, except an Army or Navy pistol which shall be carried openly in the hand, or any other dangerous weapon, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor."   - OS

Under federal law, that is true, it's not a firearm. That's why you can get one shipped directly to your home.  And TN AG has even opined that even a felon may own one.   However, under TN TCA definitons, a black powder firearm still meets the definition of "firearm" and "handgun", and you can't carry a loaded one without an HCP.  Which you can't get as a felon.   On the other hand, many towns in TN have the old ordinance that all firearm carry is illegal, "except for an Army or Navy pistol, carried in the hand". Knoxville does, for example. Belle Meade did, for another example, until Kwik forced that issue.   But I don't believe I'd count on that. :)   - OS

Yep, what could be more fair these days. They don't charge card unless shipped, and that's an important factor.   I got one of the FTC required notices on something or other from them once, I opted to let order stand, dang if I didn't get it a few days later.   - OS

Thing is, one of O's new executive orders puts all denied 4473s into a permanent database, as I understand it.   It doesn't define whether this means permanently denied, or also those denied and overturned on the appeal. If in the latter, all they have to do is first deny them on an increasing basis, and put you in the database even though you're approved. Was just an "admin error" after all, eh?   - OS

From the story: "...obtain and continuously maintain a policy of liability insurance in an amount not less than one million dollars specifically covering any damages resulting from any negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person.” What insurance company will write me a policy to cover negligent acts? And "willful" would suggest "unjustified or overtly negligent" or "criminal", and I don't think they write those either. - OS
